He had a dark match on this past RAW too beating one of the Americano stooges.
My guess is they want him to get used to the "WWE" style of working since in AEW he was pretty much a rookie and barely had any matches there.
Any bad habits he may have picked up in AEW they want to wash it away like they tried to do with Jade.
I just looked it up and he debuted in 2009.......goddamn.

A shift in the Lucha Libre landscape is reportedly taking place this weekend, marking a massive roster milestone following WWE's recent business moves. Multiple sources have said La Catalina will debut in AAA this Saturday, becoming the first wrestler to move from CMLL to AAA since WWE announced its purchase of the company last year.

I used to think those matches were good back then but when you're young you don't know any better.

The best ones were in this order of ranking
Undertaker vs Mankind
Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels
Mankind vs HHH
Undertaker vs Edge
HHH vs Shawn Michaels

All the other ones were ass

I should've said SOME matches in that slide.

My fault for not clarifying.

the end of era with Undertaker vs HHH w Shawn Michaels as Special Referee was good too.

Hell in the Cell requires risk-takers and guys who can really sell like Shawn and Foley. I think Mick Foley might be the only one who has went thru the cage

Must have been wrestling in outlaw mudshow promotions cuz I had never heard of him (along with everyone else) until he showed up in AEW.
A lot of those wrestlers were doing indie wrestling at those small arenas.

That's probably why you never heard of him.

AEW is the reason why he got showcased. So, you can't blame that company for him not improving. He had plenty of time to improve with some new moves or hire a well known wrestler to help him since he's been wrestling way back in 2009.

Yeah, i really didn't go into too much detail about which matches were good and bad.

I gotta admit there was some good PPV's matches back then though.

But when you're young is when you used to think all those matches were good. That was my point.

He was hardly "showcased" in AEW. He was never involved in any storylines and was barely on TV during his time there.
He would have a match here and there and then be off TV for months at a time before popping up again as just a background character.
No promos, no big matches, no storylines. He was just there which did nothing for his development.
We'll see if WWE will use him better or not.

If he wasn't on AEW then there's no way WWE would've been able to discover him because he's been wrestling since 2009.

He can't even get a match on the mainstream with WWE that he has to do dark matches first and he only got a small role in the royal rumble. Yet, he was aired on TV when he used to be with AEW even though he wasn't used as much at the time.

I'm hoping WWE pushes him for big matches and story lines because triple k doesn't do too well with black wrestlers when it comes to story lines and big matches.

While Obi Femi and carmelo hayes has been getting the spotlight with mainstream matches but the same can't be said for powerhouse hobbs especially when WWE got a lot of talent already being pushed with storylines and matches.

Hobbs/Keys should have started in NXT. Hell, Starks and Ethan Page can wrestle circles around him yet they were assigned to NXT.

The Royal Rumble debut was cool, but after that, he should have been shipped to NXT to get ready for the big time. WWE may be having him work thsoe dark matches to get him accustomed to their style, and perhaps his age (40 years old) may have been a reason he wasn't shipped to NXT, but as someone who debuted in 2009, even if he spent the bulk of that time in mudshow promotions, the fact he's relegated to dark matches while cats like Oba Femi have been in the business for less than 4 years and is thriving, isn't a good look on Hobbs/Keys.

He had a tryout with WWE in 2016, wrestled Baron Corbin, they already knew about him.

I brought this up before, why going into wrestlemania would they just randomly put him out there with no program for him? They put him in the rumble to show he's on the roster, but at that point they were already building mania.

If they put him on tv with no direction, people gonna bitch and moan about they doing bullshit with him or he's not in a story, just doing random matches. Give the man a chance to get acclimated to the company while they finish the stuff they have in place. You know they reset after mania, wait and see what happens.
