Never had Raising Canes but NXT and TNA my must watch. Occasionally I can catch 1FW and Championship Wrestling from Hollywood
This the only thing NXT got going on for them because the rest of that shit is trash.
NXT was must watch, until the last set of call ups. I'm speaking specifically about the men's division.
Do you also watch AEW?
Besides the Women's division, NXT is unwatchable now. They really fucked up calling, Oba, Trick & Je'von up at the same time. Even one of them left back would have helped the Men's division.
The best thing they can do is have Ethan Page drop the NA belt and have, Hendry, Saints & Page battle for the NXT title.

I said it before, the NXT men's division is pitiful right now.
These bland white boys that look like they came off an assembly line ain't it.
They needed to bring up Oba and Trick for sure to the main roster because they're ready.
Maybe Je'von could have stayed in NXT a little longer and had a run with the NXT championship.

The women's division is backed up they have so much talent, jaida not on the main roster is proof of that, but like you said it's slim pickings for the men especially after all the call ups, I haven't watched in a bit but are Ethan Paige and Ricky saints still down there? If so then I'd assume they're the best the brand has to offer right now and how long before they're on the main roster?(Both have been ready imho.)
I also feel that women's wrestling is just doing a better job if attracting candidates, maybe it has something to do with the perception difference, for a male athlete doing WWE can sometimes be seen as a step down or not lucrative, for female athletes it's a bad ass alternative lifestyle that makes more money than a lot of the top womens sports with the added benefit of getting to act and model/be connected to that Hollywood world.
Men who wrestle = fake fighter/fake tough
Women who wrestle = badass/tough not like the other girls

Yeah, a lot of the male athletes being recruited now into the WWE are guys who couldn't make it professionally in other sports like football.
So like you said pro wrestling is a fallback option for them and they maybe don't take it as seriously.
Trick Williams, Oba and a few others are the rare exceptions.
For the women on the other hand, being in WWE is a better option than playing professionally in a league that doesn't pay that much.
Therefore they're more likely to take it seriously and plus sports like gymnastics and even soccer translate better into wrestling than basketball or football.
