Exactly this, Shinsuke was a rock star in Japan but they want to take guys like him and tozawa and make them ninjas and samurai. They're idiots.

If they want us to take Dark State serious they need to remove Cutler James and replace him with Jasper Troy.

Im glad AEW brought Wardlow back but adding him to the Don Calis Family makes them too big of a faction. AEW made the same mistake with the Dark Order. If TK was smart I would bring in Karrion Kross while he has a buzz as backup for Swerve. You have Kross vs Wardlow brawl multiple matches that end with DQs, Street Brawls, Count outs and have it lead to a Steel Cage Match. Write up a proper storyline that could be a huge main event.
