Honest question.
WTF are TV ratings in 2024?

I had no intention on Earth of watching Mone' debut on live TV simple because I knew that the 'AEW is the future' posters in this thread would keep me knowledgeable on all Mone'/AEW happenings.

Just FYI, for all the AEW posters in this thread. We have one posters who gives a detailed review of the whole show. Other posters who drop 30 second social media clips of all the relevant points from each show.

What incentive do I have to watch the actual 2hr show? AEW fans will give you all the relevant facts in 2 minutes or less.

You watch the show because you love wrestling. I don't get to watch every show live whether it be AEW, NJPW, Stardom or ROH but I do watch when I can because I love those products. Nothing any poster in a wrestling thread or social media platform is ever going to be a substitute for watching the show itself.

The Nelson's rating system is definitely a outdated model because it doesn't track streamers and people who pirate the shows. That's why it's very important for AEW to get that streaming deal because once that kicks in then you're not just dependent on the Nelson ratings anymore you can also track the streamers.

Although Nielsen ratings are antiquated in the world of Streaming as @Mastermind2002 mentions, Networks still use these numbers to determine how much they want to invest in a show when it comes to renewals. Also, the amount of eyes a shows pulls in is used to determine advertise dollars.

Keep it simple, if a show is low rated or not growing an audience, it will be canceled or not renewed with a new TV deal.

I don't believe AEW will be canceled/not renewed, however WB/Turner has all the bargaining power in negotiations. They will renew it, but due to the lack of TV growth, AEW will lose out on getting a sweeter deal.

I know tv ratings are still important to the networks. It just annoys me when people rush to post the numbers like they have a dog in the fight.
At the end of the day, I want all these companies to do well. Competition is key to growth and creativity. Lord knows WWE can always use a reminder that there are other options in the world.

Same. I want all wrestling companies to thrive.

Even though I prefer WWE, I support AEW through occasionally watching their weekly shows, buying their first ever PPV and now having attended 2 PPVs in person. Not even a lot of hardcore AEW fans can say all that.
A company like AEW is good for the business because it allows wrestlers to get better deals and competition (whether real or imagined) leads to a better product in WWE and other companies.
I point out the flaws in AEW because I want it to get better and present real competition to WWE so that WWE can stay on top of its game.
We all saw how crappy the WWE product became when it was the only game in town with no real competition before AEW came around.

Yes, TV ratings are outdated and flawed but at the end of the day they are a measuring stick for making comparisons just like SAT scores and other standardized tests are a measuring stick for academic performance despite also being outdated and flawed.
Advertisers and networks need to see some kind of quantifiable numbers when deciding how much money to invest for ads and how much money to pay a company to air its show. It can't just be "well, their fans really like the product and they put on 'banger' dream matches".

Thank you! Comments on here, like they own a piece of the company, are getting annoying.

Just enjoy the ride.

I was having a conversation about Mercedes's AEW debut with my cousin Ray and he had me wondering. He said If you put Rhea, Charlotte, Bianca, Bayley, Becky or any WWE woman in the same position as Mercedes Wednesday night you would get the same viewership result. He said that none of those women are really draws and it's actually the "WWE brand" that's the draw. People tune in to see WWE first and foremost before anything because it's been around so long people instantly associate WWE with wrestling. It's in the fabric of pop culture. The only real game changer wrestlers are Rock, Roman, and Cena. I had to agree with him.

Homie we've all said that! FCUK ME! I know @EPDC has said this.

Can't disagree with your cousin. People tune in to watch WWE and not any specific person.
It's almost like going to see the circus or a Broadway play.
You're going to see the show or the act and not specifically any one performer or actor.
WWE has purposely shifted the focus to the brand any not any one or two people.
That ended up biting WWE in the ass when guys like The Rock and Stone Cold left the company and they had no else that was a draw.

I went back and watched this week AEW Dynamite this morning!!..It was a good show this week as well...Damn Boston had showed out and had the place packed for Dynamite!!..I see Mercedes Mone made her appearance at AEW!!...I never watched her wrestle just saw clips of her on the internet and Youtube..But I looking forward to see what she's going to do at AEW!!...The matches that had for the show were good as well...The Samoa Joe vs Warlow match was good...I like that Young Bucks and Okda vs Eddie Kingston, Penta, and Pac match!!... ....That segment with Will Opseary was nice to get ready for his match at the next ppv vs Danielson!!...I really like the match with Darby Allin vs Jay White..that was a good match!!...I'm glad that Bullet Club Gold turn on The Acclaimed.....I was getting tired of that BS of them joining together..That was lame..Now, I hope they will take the Trios Belts off The Acclaimed!!...The last match with Willow vs Riho was nice as well..

Overall, it was a good show!!..AEW had two good Dynamite shows back and back!!....They are starting the new year right so far!!..Keep it going!!..

I give Riho a pass because despite her being small she works her ass off to deliver good matches and she's generally a kind hearted person. She doesn't deserve the hate she faces online. Is she my favorite Joshi wrestler? Absolutely not! Wouldn't even be in my top 20 but she goes out there, plays the underdog role well and works hard to win over the crowd and for that I'll give her credit.
I like Riho....She always have pretty good matches!!..

Jamie Hayter isn't a NXT Reject. Neither is Thunder Rosa, Mariah May, Deonna Purrazzo, Hikaru Shida, Athena, Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale, Julia Hart, Serena Deeb, Skye Blue, Riho and then you add the Stardom women like Mayu Iwatani, AZM, Mina Shirakawa, Utami Hayashishita, Syuri and the list goes on. She DOESN'T NEED WWE at all. WWE will be fine and AEW/Mercedes will be fine.

Don't forget about Queen Aminata...

At this point I'm baffled as to why they can't draw for their TV shows. It's weird too because they can draw for their ppvs but can't do it for the tv shows. You put a World championship match on right after Mercedes's debut and the viewership still drops. People essentially turned the channel when your World Champion is wrestling. That's very telling.

The big question going forward is how do you fix the tv shows and get people watching. They can draw for their ppvs but can't draw for their tv shows.

Brother Mastermind2002, You know how TK does it...His thing is to have good action packed shows and booked matches to start fueds and good story lines!!..All of that will set up their PPV's..You know their PPV's is a hit!!

As far as the TV ratings goes, It might not at the level people expected and the numbers are up and down sometimes...But, I believe that people are watching AEW!!...They might not watch it when the time it comes on TV but I think people are going back on streaming sites or anywhere on the internet where they can watch it.....You can't have successful PPV's and people talking about AEW if they are not watching it!!

The TV ratings are high or low sometimes but AEW is going to be fine!!....

I agree with you on this!!...

The only people who are watching AEW are AEW fans and that base is not enough to translate into big enough numbers to make an imprint on wrestling fans or compete with the juggernaut that is WWE.

Man, look at their social media footprints, WWE has 100 Million subscribers on YouTube alone. AEW has 4 million.

There are camera review YouTubers that have a larger audience than AEW.

AEW may be on cable TV but their audience is still pretty much a niche market.

They continue to fail at breaking through and being thought of as "mainstream" wrestling.
