Shyt turned into a Royal Rumble QUICK!!!

I finally got around to watching the NJPW/Stardom Historic X PPV. Entertaining show. They paired a lot of the Stardom women in mixed tags with the New Japan men. The women held their own. My favorite match from the mixed tags was Hiroshi Tanahashi and Utami Hayashishita vs. Hirooki Goto and Maika.

Great Muta's final New Japan match was good for what it was. Short and sweet. They had him paired with Toru Yano and Kazuchika Okada against Great-O-Khan, Aaron Henare, and Jeff Cobb. Since Muta is like 100 years old he can't move like he use to. What I always enjoyed about Muta in his prime was how gracefull and athletic he was. That's all gone now. I'm gonna miss the old man.

Shota Umino vs Will Ospreay was fantastic. Make no mistake about it Ospreay is the wrestler of the year. It's insane the level he's on right now. He's had so many banger matches this year I've lost count. As for Shota I remember a couple years ago when he was still a young lion and Moxley squashed him. He's come a long way since then. He could end up being a big star in the future if Gedo books him correctly. He's got a ton of potential. After the match we got the promo from Omega setting up Ospreay/Omega at Wrestle Kingdom next month. Anything less than 6 stars will be a disappointment.

Then there was the main event between Mayu Iwatani and KAIRI. Great match that lived up to the hype. Stiff and brutal with phenomenal athleticism displayed by both women. Easily in my top three women matches this year.

Although I understand the decision to put the belt on KAIRI I felt Mayu deserved it more for carrying Stardom on her back for 5 years when KAIRI and Io Shirai left for WWE. She stayed loyal all those years and became the ace of the company. They definitely need to do a rematch in the future. Looks like KAIRI will defend the belt at Wrestle Kingdom against Tam Nakano. Should be a good match.

In closing I never thought I'd see the day when New Japan would do a show with any women's promotion. Too bad it took this long but if New Japan wants to grow it has to get the women more involved.
