Thoughts on Dynamite ...

CM Punk/Penta Oscuro: Good opener but predictable. It's a shame how Penta is booked in AEW compared to Lucha Underground. He was such a badass there. Now he's just fodder for CM Punk and Malakai Black. He might as well go back to being regular Penta because the dark side of his gimmick doesn't work if he isn't allowed to be a badass.

reDRagon/Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus:
Hell of a match. Superb chemistry from all four guys and the creativity of the spots were fun. Post match FTR came out teasing a possible future match with reDRago or Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus. It would be wild if FTR won the AEW Tag Team championships and held all three titles (ROH, AAA, AEW) simultaneously.

MJF/Captain Shawn Dean:
This was just a catalyst to continue the MJF/Wardlow storyline as each week Wardlow gets closer and closer to getting to MJF through the crowd. I'm really loving all of this. It's making Wardlow look like a complete beast.

Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz/Chris Jericho, Jake Hager & Daniel Garcia:
Good match but I can't stand the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Skye Blue/Marina Shafir:
Crowd went dead for this. Match was sloppy and Marina was horrible. This match didn't belong on Dynamite.

Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs/Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland:
Now we're talking. Great fun shit! This was so good I want to see it again. The finish made sense to since Hobbs and Starks are the heels.

Minoru Suzuki/Samoa Joe:
About what I expected. Stiff and brutal! Finish was predictable as Suzuki is headed back to Japan so he had to drop the title. Post match Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt with assistance of some big ass east Indian dude beat down Joe.

Overall this was a fantastic show. The only low point was the woman's match but pretty much everything else was solid.

Fellas...

It's good enough for a repost... And...

Was Hangman Page really ever truly the top babyface in the company and pushed as the top babyface?

Of course. During his whole chase to dethrone Kenny Omega he was white hot as the top babyfacie In the company and was pushed as such hence why he's the AEW World Champ now. Once CM Punk and Bryan Danielson joined AEW that dynamic changed. Although Hangman has put on some banger matches he's more intriguing as a chaser rather than a champion. He's still over with the fanbase but not to the level he was before he got the belt.

Nope. TK rushed the title on him because he already had his order of champions lined up in his head from his days of fantasy booking. LOL

Somebody has revisionist history. Hangman Page was/is extremely over with the fanbase and him being crowned champ was the endgame of a year and half story that was built between him and Kenny Omega. Yes, he was the next line after Omega but nothing was rushed.

No revisionist history here. And you cannot say that he is still extremely over. His title reign has been a flop so far.
TK should have had him removed from the Dark Order to see if he can get over on his own.
This feud with Adam Cole (who also is not world title material) has been a flop.
Once that happened, then MAYBE you have him chase for the world championship. I would have put the TNT title on him first as a test run.

Only in regard to stories it's been a flop but his title defenses have been great. Name a bad match he's had since being champion. His gimmick just works better as a chaser than a champion.

He was going to get over regardless whether he was with Dark Order or not because he's great in the ring.

Your thought process is too much on stories rather than matches. Stories have their place but you also have to deliver in the ring. Hangman Page hasn't had a bad match. AEW is a workrate company first and foremost. I don't particularly care for Adam Cole but he doesn't deliver bad matches. The AEW fanbase will rock with you as long as you deliver in the ring.

Connecting with the fans in wrestling (especially as a world champion) is more than just having good matches.
That's why promos are so important in wrestling. When I hear Hangman cut promos he doesn't sound confident in what he's saying.
For example, Ricky Steamboat had some of the best matches of all time, but he had a bland character and never got to that next level.
Hangman Page right now comes off as a lesser version of Ricky Steamboat.
