What's up gang! How's everyone doing? Good I hope. I am a huge fan of ESPN and ESPN Radio. Right now, since my schedule is pretty laid back, I've had more of an opportunity to listen to the shows I enjoy (e.g. Mike & Mike In The Morning, The Herd, and the Scott Van Pelt Show) while at work. As some of you may know, ESPN started the V Foundation several years ago to help in the fight against cancer. The foundation was named after former NC State Men's Basketball coach Jim Valvano. The network was holding their annual Jimmy V fund raiser the other day. They were auctioning off a bunch of great sports experiences and memorabilia. The people who donated and bid on things had the opportunity to win prizes that would allow them to meet and hang out with their favorite athletes, teams, etc. They could win all kinds of cool stuff as well. There was even some Carolina/Obama stuff in there...
... If you didn't already know President Obama has a connection to my Tar Heels that dates back to him playing basketball with the team while running for President. He also filled out an NCAA Tournament Bracket this year (March) and picked the Heels to win it all, which is exactly what happened!!! And as a result of them winning the National Title this year, the Heels had the chance to go to the White House to meet with Obama. They gave him a jersey, and that was included in the package along with the bracket he filled out in March... Hearing about all gifts and prizes was pretty cool. But for me it was hearing about how thankful ESPN was to everyone who donated money that made me want to check things out and make my own contribution. I actually did that on Friday and I know that my money will contribute to helping us get rid of this disease. At this point in my life I know too many people who died from illness, cancer being one of them. I figured I'd be a part of the solution, and I encourage you to check out the foundation's website. If you feel moved to help out, chose your method and send something to them. Anyway, I have taken enough of your time. Click the links below and educate yourself on The V Foundation. Holla...
