Bush Snubs the Nation's Oldest and Largest Civil Rights Group

Julian Bond, chair of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the nation's largest and oldest civil rights group, criticized George W. Bush in July for his refusal to speak at its annual convention. Having declined an invitation to speak for a fourth year in a row, Bush is now the only president since Warren G. Harding who hasn't addressed the NAACP at some point in his administration. Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry, who addressed the NAACP conference on July 15, also criticized Bush's refusal, saying that a president should speak to all people. Bush, campaigning in Pennsylvania in July, said his relationship with NAACP leadership was "basically nonexistent'' and referred to being called "names'' by organization members. (Bond said in June that Bush and other Republicans were part of a "dark underside of American culture.'') While the White House blamed Bush's refusal partly on "hostile rhetoric," Bush accepted an invitation to speak to the Urban League on July 23, where he urged African Americans to consider voting Republican, yet did not mention his opposition to affirmative action.

George W. Bush is notorious for running things into the ground, (look into his past), not to mention, lying about Iraq Weapons of Mass Destruction; killing Iraqi citizens and American soldiers(the so called War on Terrorism); outing a CIA operative, (breaking federal law), implementing NSA spying on US Citizens(violation of civil liberties, privacy clauses, etc); torturing Abu Ghraib prisoners against the Geneva Conventions(human rights violations, false imprisonment, torture, etc); last but not least, a well-documented case that the administration paricipated in and engineered 9-11(domestic terrorism). :smh: :smh:

A recent poll said George Bush only had a 2% approval rating within the black community. Keep in mind there was a plus or minus 4% error possibility in the poll. It's said that Bush theoretically could have a 0% approval rating from blacks and Bush's current level of unpopularity is something this country has never before seen.

If you were talking about endgame.org, don't believe most of it. The money in America is more diffused now than just about any other time in American history. What is a little disturbing is that asa of about three years ago, money started re-concentraing again a little. I blame much of it on the welfare state, which many on this board cheers for. But that is an issue for a different posting.

Gulags For American Citizens In Final Planning Stages
Halliburton sex slave trade criminals prepare camps for political dissidents

Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones/Prison Planet.com | March 1 2006

Bush administration and US army preparations to target American citizens and intern them in forced labor camps has vastly accelerated in the past month and commentators from all over the political spectrum are sounding the alarm bells that the round-ups may begin soon.

Once the bane of the media's stereotypical 'tin foil hat wearing' caricatures, concentration camps in America are now serious news and no one is laughing.

Following the news first given wide attention by this website, that Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root had been awarded a $385 million dollar contract by Homeland Security to construct detention and processing facilities in the event of a national emergency, the Alternet website put together an alarming report that collated all the latest information on plans to initiate internment of political subversives and Muslims after the next major terror attack in the US.

The article highlighted the disturbing comments of Sen. Lindsey Graham, who encouraged torture supporting Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to target, "Fifth Columnists" Americans who show disloyalty and sympathize with "the enemy," whoever that enemy may be.

It is important to stress that the historical precedent mirrors exactly what the Halliburton camp deal outlines. Oliver North's Reagan era Rex 84 plan proposed rounding up 400,000 refugees, under FEMA, in the event of "uncontrolled population movements" over the Mexican border into the United States.

The real agenda, just as it is with Halliburton's gulags, was to use the cover of rounding up immigrants and illegal aliens as a smokescreen for targeting political dissidents. From 1967 to 1971 the FBI kept a list of persons to be rounded up as subversive, dubbed the "ADEX" list.

The current terrorist suspect list was recently revealed to contain the names of 325,000 people. The government claimed that only a tiny fraction were American citizens living in America but when compared to the potential terrorist list in the UK, which under section 44 of the terrorism act has ensnared at least 119,000 people, most of them innocent protesters, the number is likely to be far higher. Britain's population is only 60 million compared to the US at 295 million.

Halliburton, through their KBR subsidiary, is the same company that built most of the major new detention camps in Iraq and Afghanistan. KBR have been embroiled in a human sex slave trade that their representatives have lobbied to continue.

We have a company that has been handed a contract to build prison camps in America that is engaged in trafficking young girls and women. Can this horror movie get any more frightening?

A much discussed and circulated report, the Pentagon's Civilian Inmate Labor Program, has recently been updated and the revision details a "template for developing agreements" between the Army and corrections facilities for the use of civilian inmate labor on Army installations."

The plan is clearly to swallow up disenfranchised groups likes prisoners and Muslims at first and then extend the policy to include 'Fifth Columnists,' otherwise known as anyone who disagrees with the government or exercises their Constitutional rights.

Respected author Peter Dale Scott speculated that the "detention centers could be used to detain American citizens if the Bush administration were to declare martial law."

Daniel Ellsberg, former Special Assistant to Assistant Secretary of Defense, called the plan, "preparation for a roundup after the next 9/11 for Mid-Easterners, Muslims and possibly dissenters. They've already done this on a smaller scale, with the 'special registration' detentions of immigrant men from Muslim countries, and with Guantanamo."

George Bush has declared himself to be dictator and to have supreme power over and above the limitations of the US Constitution. Bush administration officials like Alberto Gonzales have declared Bush to be "above the law." White House advisors are openly discussing the legality of crushing a child's testicles as part of the war on terror. Preparation for the internment of thousands of Americans who are 'disloyal' in times of emergency are afoot.

The next step is clearer than it has ever been. One more large scale staged terror attack in America and the result will be martial law. When even famous singers like Morrissey are being detained and questioned by the secret service for "speaking out against the American and British governments," we know we are in a lot of trouble.

"I don't think anybody anticipated the breech of the levees."
— Bush, on "Good Morning America", six days after repeated warnings from experts about the scope of damage expected from Katrina, Sept. 1, 2005.

Denial should be a four letter word.

He has the masses fooled. It kills me, when people say he's incompetent. He is full aware of everything that is going. Your media, in conjunction with, you government has the masses believing that he is out of the loop. History has proven already that he is in the loop.

I think we need to understand that it's not as much Bush that's the problem as it is us the American people. We seem to have no desire to want to know what 's going on, unless it's american Idol, fear factor, or who wants to marry a pimp... :-)

We need to make it our duty to ensure that everyone that we know, has the information\truth. Once that happens I believe it would be harder to not do something that to do something.

This is supposed to be our government, and we need to act like it. Because it's getting very scary. The word going around is that the next "so called" Terrorist act will be worse than 9-11-2001. And supposedly this will be the pretext for the Government to put the american people under Martial Law.

That kinda makes clear why this Patriot act was so important that it got renewed.

LET'S GET UP OFF OF OUR ASSES AND DO SOMETHING. GET INFORMATION AND SHARE IT "BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY"

Donald Rumsfeld makes $5m killing on bird flu drug
By Geoffrey Lean and Jonathan Owen
Published: 12 March 2006
Donald Rumsfeld has made a killing out of bird flu. The US Defence Secretary has made more than $5m (£2.9m) in capital gains from selling shares in the biotechnology firm that discovered and developed Tamiflu, the drug being bought in massive amounts by Governments to treat a possible human pandemic of the disease.

More than 60 countries have so far ordered large stocks of the antiviral medication - the only oral medicine believed to be effective against the deadly H5N1 strain of the disease - to try to protect their people. The United Nations estimates that a pandemic could kill 150 million people worldwide.

Britain is about halfway through receiving an order of 14.6 million courses of the drug, which the Government hopes will avert some of the 700,000 deaths that might be expected. Tamiflu does not cure the disease, but if taken soon after symptoms appear it can reduce its severity.

The drug was developed by a Californian biotech company, Gilead Sciences. It is now made and sold by the giant chemical company Roche, which pays it a royalty on every tablet sold, currently about a fifth of its price.

Mr Rumsfeld was on the board of Gilead from 1988 to 2001, and was its chairman from 1997. He then left to join the Bush administration, but retained a huge shareholding .

The firm made a loss in 2003, the year before concern about bird flu started. Then revenues from Tamiflu almost quadrupled, to $44.6m, helping put the company well into the black. Sales almost quadrupled again, to $161.6m last year. During this time the share price trebled.

Mr Rumsfeld sold some of his Gilead shares in 2004 reaping - according to the financial disclosure report he is required to make each year - capital gains of more than $5m. The report showed that he still had up to $25m-worth of shares at the end of 2004, and at least one analyst believes his stake has grown well beyond that figure, as the share price has soared. Further details are not likely to become known, however, until Mr Rumsfeld makes his next disclosure in May.

The 2005 report showed that, in all, he owned shares worth up to $95.9m, from which he got an income of up to $13m, owned land worth up to $17m, and made $1m from renting it out.

He also had illiquid investments worth up to $8.1m, including in partnerships investing in biotechnology, issuing reproductions of paintings, and operating art galleries in New Mexico and Wyoming. He also has life insurance with a surrender value of up to $5m, and received up to $1m from the DHR Foundation, in which he has assets worth up to $25m, and $773,743 from the Donald H Rumsfeld Trust, in which he has assets of up to $50m.

Late last week no one at Gilead Sciences was available to comment on Mr Rumsfeld's sale of its stock. In a statement to The Independent on Sunday the Pentagon said: "Secretary Rumsfeld has no relationship with Gilead Sciences, Inc beyond his investments in the company. When he became Secretary of Defence in January 2001, divestiture of his investment in Gilead was not required by the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Office of Government Ethics or the Department of Defence Standards of Conduct Office.

"Upon taking office, he recused himself from participating in any particular matter when the matter would directly and predictably affect his financial interest in Gilead Sciences."

Military Career of our Commander in Chief

Bush's DWI revelation at the end of the 2000 Presidential campaign may have been leaked to cover a much bigger scandal.
On November 2, 2000, four days before the most disputed election in American history, military veterans in the US Senate lashed out at candidate George W Bush for his failure to explain a six-month lapse in his National Guard service. "At the least, I would have been court-martialed. At the least, I would have been placed in prison," Senator Daniel Inouye said.

Bush would offer no explanation for his absence and, as he had throughout the campaign, refused to discuss his military service during the Vietnam War. Why would a man who was running for the office of Commander and Chief of the US Armed Forces refuse to discuss his service in the military? Why didn't the public and press take notice? Their attention that day was focused on something else.

That same day, while senators were asking for an explanation of Bush's National Guard absence, the media and the public were watching another breaking Bush scandal: the sudden revelation of a 1976 drunk driving conviction that Bush had failed to mention during the campaign. As Bush spent the final days before the election explaining to America that he hid the arrest to protect his daughters, the National Guard absence was swept under the rug, not made into a campaign issue by Democrats.

Both Candidates avoided making Vietnam an issue during the Presidential race of 2000. Bush and Al Gore, who served in Vietnam as an Army journalist, had a sort of unwritten understanding that their military service during the Vietnam war would not be a subject of campaign debate. Both had been accused of using their fathers' influence to avoid combat in the war. Gore's father was a senator, Bush's father was a Congressman.

The Washington Post reports that Bush joined the National Guard 12 days before his student deferment would have expired, and that in spite of his low score on the pilot's aptitude test (25, the lowest score allowed), and in spite of the waiting list that some kids spent years on, Bush was sworn in as an airman the day he applied. Indeed, so giddy was Bush's commander, Col. Walter B. "Buck" Staudt, that he later staged a special ceremony so he could have his picture taken giving Bush the oath, instead of the captain who actually had sworn Bush in. Bush spent two years learning to fly airplanes in his home state of Texas.

As the 2000 Presidential campaign moved along, angry veterans in Alabama claimed that George W Bush never performed any military service in that state, as stated on his campaign website. They offered a reward of $1000 (which rose to $3,500) to anyone who could prove that he had. No one came forth with any proof. Eight days before the election, the Boston Globe reported discrepancies between the Bush campaign's statements regarding his military service and what records and documents showed. In 1972, the Globe reported, Bush moved from Houston to Mobile, Alabama to work on a Senate campaign. It was at this time, the Globe found, that he was suspended from flight duty for not taking his annual flight physical. Furthermore, the Globe could find no evidence that he ever performed any drills while in Alabama, or any more drills after returning to Houston.
Bush refused to answer any questions concerning the charges. His official White House biography states, "He served as an F-102 pilot for the Texas Air National Guard before beginning his career in the oil and gas business in Midland in 1975..." but gives no further details about his military service.

Has Bush L-IED Again?
By John Brown

George W. Bush’s speech on Iraq before the neoconservative Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) on March 13 attracted some media attention, but few commentators focused on what was new in the speech: the President’s emphasis on IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) -- in plain English, roadside bombs -- that he stressed were a major threat to our troops in that U.S.- occupied country.

Bush repeated his previous explanation that we are in Iraq to promote “democratic ideals” and to train “a new generation of democratic leaders in the Middle East.” But his remarks at FDD emphasized a previously little reported role for the U.S. military in Iraq: to eliminate IED and the “bomb makers” that produce them.

As columnist Robert Scheer points out, Bush repeated “IED” 26 times in his speech. His detailed treatment of the topic was at the heart of his remarks.

What’s the reason behind the administration’s new proclamations about the IED threat?

The answer is not far to seek: The White House, desperate to gain support for the Iraq war, is now providing yet another justification for its Middle East misadventure. Bush is again trying to convince us that we should fight in Iraq, since all his other explanations have failed to persuade an increasingly skeptical public that our military presence in that distant part of the world is necessary.

So, for Bush, the urgent need to abolish IED is a recycled version of why we are in Iraq, which initially -- we hate to remember -- was to get rid of its Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), which turned out to be non-existent.

IED, in other words, are Bush-produced clones of the fictitious WMD, as Scheer has noted. From the administration’s narrow propaganda perspective, IED are in fact even more believable as a threat to national security than WMD. There is visual, mainstream media-provided evidence that the murderous devices are in fact “out there” and pose a real danger to our troops.

Moreover, any doubts regarding the White House’s IED claims can be dismissed as the unpatriotic rants of war critics that don’t care for the safety of our men and women in uniform (far too many of whom are victims of these murderous devices).

The language in Bush’s speech leaves little doubt that IED have become his favorite new weapon of mass distraction to lure Americans into “staying the course” in Iraq. Like WMD, IED is an acronym -- perfect linguistic fakery to frighten the public about something it can’t clearly identify. The less understood, the scarier.

As the White House try to show about WMD, IED are, Bush tells us, weapons that allow the terrorists “to attack from a safe distance without having to face our forces in battle”; “they can be hidden”; they “strike terror.” Similar to the WMD in Saddam’s Iraq, they’re produced by a dangerous enemy: “Some of the most powerful IED we are seeing in Iraq today,” Bush discloses, “includes components that came from Iran.”

Our commander in chief doesn’t fail to base his IED claims on imprecise intelligence, just as he did with WMD: “Our director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte, told the Congress Tehran has been responsible for at least some of the increasing lethality of anti-coalition attacks by providing Shi'a militia with the capabilities to build improvised explosive devices in Iraq.”

True to his administration’s WMD spin, Bush links IED with nuclear weapons: “Such actions [by Iran], along with Iran's support for terrorism and its pursuit of nuclear weapons, are increasingly isolating Iran. And America will continue to rally the world to confront these threats.” This twisted IED logic echoes the case for going after WMD: If we don’t get rid of these weapons now, a mushroom cloud is bound to be upon us.

To push its now discredited WMD claims, the administration repeatedly used numbers that were difficult (if not impossible) to verify. With IED, Bush is again playing the statistics game. “Iraqis are increasingly providing critical intelligence to help us find the bomb-makers and stop new attacks. The number of tips from Iraqis has grown from 400 last March to over 4,000 in December. … Iraqi and coalition forces have found and cleared nearly 4,000 IED … ” (What a coincidence that the number of tips match the number of IED).

Just as the campaign to save America from WMD that weren't there demanded massive resources and personnel -- given the nature of their putative threat to the United States -- so does the struggle against the violent extremism of IED: “To improve our training,” the president announces, “last month we established new IED Joint Center of Excellence [could Orwell have thought of a better name?] headquartered at Fort Irwin, California, where we're taking lessons learned from the IED fight in Iraq and sharing them with our troops in the field and those preparing to deploy.”

Along with other anti-IED measures, this “new initiative,” as Bush puts it in perfect bureaucratese (ever heard of an old initiative?), of course costs a great deal of money, another proof of the magnitude of the threat: “In 2004 the administration spent $150 million to fight the IED threat. This year we're providing $3.3 billion to support our efforts to defeat IED.”

Meanwhile, as we stay awake at night fearing the IED-producing Iran and spend billions of our tax dollars combating IED, we mustn’t forget the other enemy: the press, which the administration can’t stop blaming for giving what it claims is a false impression of the situation in Iraq.

“Earlier this year,” Bush tells us, “a newspaper published details of a new anti-IED technology that was being developed. Within five days of the publication, using details from that article, the enemy had posted instructions for defeating this new technology on the Internet. We cannot let the enemy know how we're working to defeat them.”

(The paper in question is the Los Angeles Times; as Jason Sherman in InsideDefense.com points out, the description of the IED technology “appeared well before the Times story in numerous open sources, including the report accompanying the defense appropriations supplemental spending bill last May.”)

Just as Bush’s accounts of WMD were based on obfuscation, so are his claims about IED. Bush says that “n the past 18 months, we’ve cut the casualty rate per IED attack in half.” Charles J. Hanley of the Associated Press puts this declaration in proper perspective: “Better armor and tactics,” he writes, may have “lowered the casualty rate per IED attack last year, but the fast-growing number of attacks meant the U.S. death toll still rose. Since mid-2005, an average of about 40 Americans a month have been killed by improvised explosives, twice the rate of the previous 12 months.”

Moreover, Bush fails to disclose what the military itself says about IED -- statements that would lead the public to doubt the reason for making the elimination of IED a prime justification for the U.S. presence in Iraq. As Hanley points out, “Out on those risky roads, and back at the Pentagon, few believe that even the most advanced technology will eliminate the [IED] threat.” He cites Lt. Col. Bill Adamson, operations chief of the anti-IED campaign, who says that the insurgents “adapt more quickly than we procure technology.”

So, when seen for what it is, the Bush IED propaganda campaign is based, like WMD falsifications before it, on complete cynicism about the mental capacities of the American people. It assumes, wrongly, that the public will buy yet another feeble justification for a war that has never been adequately explained.

Indeed, so completely do Bush and his handlers underestimate the intellect of their countrymen and misread the national mood, that they take it for granted no one in these United States will come to a simple conclusion: Had we not invaded Iraq, IED there would never have become the threat that our mission-accomplished, gung-ho, “bring them on” commander in chief says they are now.

Moreover, is it not obvious (except to the White House) that if our troops withdrew from an impoverished country we’ve helped destroy, the Improvised Explosive Devices there would no longer be a threat to our soldiers?

Homeland Security Contracts for Vast New Detention Camps
News Analysis/Commentary, Peter Dale Scott,
New America Media, Feb 08, 2006

Editor's Note: A little-known $385 million contract for Halliburton subsidiary KBR to build detention facilities for "an emergency influx of immigrants" is another step down the Bush administration's road toward martial law, the writer says.

BERKELEY, Calif.--A Halliburton subsidiary has just received a $385 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security to provide "temporary detention and processing capabilities."

The contract -- announced Jan. 24 by the engineering and construction firm KBR -- calls for preparing for "an emergency influx of immigrants, or to support the rapid development of new programs" in the event of other emergencies, such as "a natural disaster." The release offered no details about where Halliburton was to build these facilities, or when.
