The tragic story of 11 African-American GIs captured by the SS 1944

My Grandfather Cyril Roberts, eldest son of George Arthur Roberts aka "The Coconut Bomber" ( https://www.bgol.us/forum/threads/s...os-ever-captured.1069808/page-2#post-22003752 ) was part of the rear guard at Dunkirk in 1939. He was captured and held as a POW until the Americans liberated the camp around March 1945. The Nazis not anly detested the Jews but also on their list of extermination were Black people. My Grandfather was mix raced, born in England in 1922. During the time he was held at the POW camp in Poland the Nazis put him up against the firing squad wall on 3 occasions for no other reason than he was black. Fortunatley for him on each occassion the other British soldiers refused to allow him to be executed and declared him a British soldier and all of them went and stood in front of him.

Knowing what I have been told about the Nazis, I am not surprised to hear of the suffering of these 11 men, my grandfather also went as far as to say that the average German soldier were not bad men, just soldiers following their orders and not overly malicious towards the prisoners but the Nazis and Gestapo were something to fear and be very careful of when they were around. Thanks to @BenQ & @praetor for posting the documentaries.
Thank you for sharing that, Brother.

Henning TN is the hometown of Alex Haley, author of ROOTS and the friendly custodians of this macabre incident.
Of course the non-acknowledgers, poppy cockers, incredulous etc have not and will never accept this... so keep sippin your water with your eyes up!
The Youtube comments are a trip, but remember lots of heroes and cowards are busy behind keyboards:laptop:

I remember doing a research paper on the SS and the Third Reich. You don’t even want to know the experiments they did on ppl (anyone who was considered non-aryan) who were in the concentration camps. The Nazis had bases In Northern Africa too

I know there are a few brothers who are ex-military on BGOL and I mean no disrespect to them.... but personally I don't understand why any black man would want to willingly serve in the USA military knowing the history of the country towards his people up to this day... why willingly put your life on the line for a country where you're not loved or respected?

.... yeah.. I get the free ride temptation such a college degree, gaining a much need skill, all expenses paid, etc... but I question if that's worth the risk of one day being called on to go into battle and put your life on the line for 'uncle sam' and his agenda.

It's a little complicated but I believe that we absolutely must have a balanced representation in the military based on our population.
I'd like to see that representation in all career fields and walks of life.

I don't know many if ANY black people who joined the military out of a sense of patriotism or any shit like that.

I joined during the mid-80s when the economy was shitty and manufacturing was being moved offshore and down to Mexico. I needed a job with benefits and I had my first son on the way.

Once I was in, it was fascinating to be able to interact with my people from all over the country, as well as the Caribbean, African and other countries.

That sort of made it easier to STAY in for another hitch...the Brothas that you meet and kick it with.

At the end of the day, I came to the conclusion that just like these CACs, I'm doing it for whatever benefits the country that my people are in.
If shit goes Left for the country as a whole, will definitely have an impact on MY people so we need to be involved as much as possible.
