:smh::smh:

blame it on piracy....

we always hear cats that steal whole albums scream "they make millions anyway!"

well if everybody thinks like that, how do they make their millions? shit is crazy right now for the music industry :smh:

The bottom line is people are not going to buy the crap produced today. When the industry starts to produce a better product the sales will improve.

:smh::smh:

Blame it on one "unit" costing $14.99. People are not going to throw good money out for pop nonsense like in the old days when one "unit" might have cost you 3, 4, 5 bucks
And as long as artists are only out to make "millions" and not produce good music, they're bound to only become 1 hit wonders at best anyway. And that means only the record company will profit in the long run

I seriously believe the industry would rather fall on it's face than provide better bang for the consumer's buck

Man I swear music is so fuckin bad I'm deleating albums that I'm downloading in the music section for free half way through listening to them. :smh:

^^^^ quite literally, NONE of this makes any sense.

14.99 is not a lot of money, in fact that's pretty much right around what albums have cost for decades now. (and first day releases are 9.99)

it wasn't until the age of the internet where these bullshit arguments started popping up and everybody started parroting the shit to justify their STEALING music..

that money goes to pay for a lot of things other than the artists, and not everybody involved with the album selling and making process are evil and greedy crooks (look it up)...

- this is true too....but at the same time, if not for illegal pirating whacka flocka and gucci would be doing major numbers....

and the music industry was in a lull too right before THRILLER came out, that album actually got people going into stores and buying other music products...

MJ single handedly saved the music business with that album, but that's another convo altogether :D:dance:

:smh::smh:

blame it on piracy....

we always hear cats that steal whole albums scream "they make millions anyway!"

well if everybody thinks like that, how do they make their millions? shit is crazy right now for the music industry :smh:

They can still make their money on tours. That's where artists make their money anyway. CDs are promotional tools for their tours. They don't need pimps(record companies) anymore.

Plus people are no longer held hostage by radio stations and video TV stations and the shit they used to force us to listen to. People have the Internet and can pick and choose.

People go to school 10 years to be doctors and make $150,000. Maybe musicians should just be happy to make $100,000 a year from here on out. The superstars will make millions.

i ask this every time this posted and never get a answer how do you read this shit!!!!!!!!!!:lol:
Weeks Label 2W LW TW Artist Title TW % LW RTD
On Rank Rank Rank Sales CHG Sales Sales

EXAMPLE:

15 rca 7 10 10 brown*chris fortune 7,132 4 6,861 331,460

Weeks On = 15 = how many weeks the CD has been on the chart

Label = rca
2W Rank = 7 = chart rank two weeks ago
LW Rank = 10 = chart rank last week
TW Rank = 10 = chart rank two weeks ago
Artist = brown*chris
Title = fortune
TW Sales = 7,132 = sales this week
% Change = 4 = percentage change in sales from last week
LW Sales = 6,861 = sales last week
RTD Sales = 331,460 = retail total to date = total number of CDs sold

^^^^ quite literally, NONE of this makes any sense.

14.99 is not a lot of money, in fact that's pretty much right around what albums have cost for decades now. (and first day releases are 9.99)

it wasn't until the age of the internet where these bullshit arguments started popping up and everybody started parroting the shit to justify their STEALING music..

that money goes to pay for a lot of things other than the artists, and not everybody involved with the album selling and making process are evil and greedy crooks (look it up)...

You believe that? CD sales jumped when vinyl was cheaper plus the overhead was cheaper. Some of us were born CDs, mayne. Besides, the old guard is failing. They better start posting concert sales for props and up those tickets. Give away that music!! That day when corporate free radio tunes will arrive soon.

That and airplay (if they write their own shit). That's why features and collabs have taken off so much in the last few years. Guys who get to appear on multiple popular songs are making a killing even if their album itself only sells a few hundred thousand (which isnt a bad number).
Then if you fuck around and get one of your songs on a commercial like Kanye or B.o.B., that's a big check.

lil wyte musiq soulchild and tech n9ne. :roflmao2:

that's fuckef up. :smh:

:lol:

Hello? Tech n9ne is the most popular hip hop indie srtist around. Been had a loyal fanbase for years. Dude is known on a natl scale. Ppl need to stop hanging onto the old guard. The fuck are "record" companies? Get that jargon updated :D

The bottom line is people are not going to buy the crap produced today. When the industry starts to produce a better product the sales will improve.

:rolleyes: no people will always take free over paying for something

Illmatic and ready to die wouldn't move much units in this climate.. and those are classic

- it's not about what i believe, it's about what's true..

you all keep talking about the ARTISTS, it's not just artists that rely on album sales there is a whole slew of people behind the scenes....

i know it's cool to shit on the industry and record labels, but without them there is no music being fed to the masses, all you dudes reading this w/dreams of being producers and rappers will be wasting your time...

buying albums keeps the machine afloat.

Dude..I never had to "parrot" shit, because I LIVED it. Have been buying records for well over 30 years now and I can tell you exactly when albums reached the 10 dollar mark.
Oh yes, 15 dollars may seem small to a baller, but people buy records in VOLUME no one goes to a record store to just buy one. At least they didn't until albums reached that 10 dollar mark in the 90's.
I know that's when I stopped. Well before I ever thought about owning a personal computer. If anything, owning a PC and file sharing got me back INTO buying music. Just not for the sucker's retail price

I gives a shit about the American music industry now. They have been trying to push shit music for years expecting people to buy this garbage, fuck'em.

The Singles list shows that these cats are getting paid, and that's with music that is given away on mix tapes usually. Meaning that it probably does go back to the quality of LPs reflecting the sales. People are willing to pay$2 for the song they like & not $13 for the ones they don't. He'll Ye is eating regardless

Spotify is killing the industry. Records companies did not expect it work so they made agreements with them. Now that it has become popular, its hurting label's pockets and the artist even more.

Also, ITunes will be dropping the bulk majority of their catalog in the near future taking away one avenue for independent artists to thrive.

If you have an idea or platform in mind fellas, nows the time to take advantage.

I would've liked to see these cats do better #s...can't front tho I'm a part of the problem :dunno: the white girl on TI label just dropped an album...she should be on next weeks chart...to the dude asking what it means shit I don't think half of us know...I know the initials represent the label and the last #s are total sales :dunno: I think the # right before the total sales are weekly sales
