If I recall the original team was from either from Sweden or Norway and yet I did not see any subtitles.....

Is it really that difficult stay on track? I can only speculate the scenes where they showed the UFO was them setting the charges in an attempt to blow it up and that is why when the Americans went out to the site all the snow covering the craft was gone.

Oh and you already know Adebisi is going to be one of the first to die.

Fuck yeah:dance::dance:

The thing (pardon the pun) about a prequel is they have to get the details right. Everyone dies. We already know the ending, it's the journey that's fun.
They are Swedish (or whatever)and we understand them but to each other they're speaking their native language. Like in some movie or something I saw where the aliens were speaking to each other, we heard them in English but when they spoke to Americans, it came out as their native tongue.

Either way, I'm cool with a prequel or a reboot. "The Thing" is one of my all time favorite horror/sci-fi movies, the original with James Arness and the remake with Kurt Russell.

FULL CO SIGN . . . The John Carpenter version is one of my ALL TIME favorites (which you're referring to here.) And it seems hollyweird is hell bent on "puffy-ing" and bastardizing all the classic joints.

In the 80's version, the original hunters are Norwegian. And you can clearly see the disc shaped space craft crash in the beginning of the movie.

What the fuck are they go re-mix next, 'Blade Runner'!!!! (I REALLY hope not).

And EVEN if they do a good job, FUCK HOLLYWEIRD for not delivering some NEW shit that will become the classics of tomorrow.

JG

EDIT: They're fucking up with this pre-quel. HOW? They're starting TOO close to the original context . . . a derelict alien craft, frozen in the snow. So all we get to see, is how team Oslo gets killed. WEAK.

How about some background as to how and why the aliens crashed in the first place. Or where they came from. And shape-shifting, they (potentially) could have destroyed countless 'civilizations', only to have reached earth in their most recent form.

Norwegians! Thanks.

You know "Blade Runner" and maybe even "Logan's Run" remakes are coming.

I'm fully aware of that (although it would not surprise me if they found a way to allow someone to live) but they felt the need to throw in a token black actor when the entire team is supposed to be Norwegian.

Maybe Adebisi plays the native guide. :dunno:

That's a bad thing? This is where Hollywood can't win. When they make movies with no Black or minority actors, they can't heat. When they do, the character is a token. They hired a Black actor in a movie where they didn't have to. Not a bad thing in an industry where Black actors sometimes struggle to find consistent work.
I'm thinking there might be Black Norwegians in the world, not many, but one or two.

how do we know they all die.... what if someone actually escaped, and is on the mainland while the kurt russel events took place...

you know how hollywood is..... i predict a sequel
also i hope its not mostly cgi... i liked the crude special effects of the original...

I see it for what it is. There are black Norwegians however he does not fit. It is simply a case of a black character being typcasted as cannon fodder to be one of the first to be brutally murdered in a sci-fi/horror film.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaann, you just touched on TWO classics that should never be touched. Something very cool and unique about the film format and camera tech used at the time that gives them a distinct texture, if you will, that can't be successfully replicated.

They should all be dead except two because the Americans went to the Norwegian camp and found no survivors. That would be an unnecessary ret-con. The movie almost has to end with the last two survivors chasing the dog threw the snow in a helicopter.

The effects from the first were crude by 2011 standards but cutting edge in 82. That shit was crazy. The head that sprouted legs and tried to run out the door? Bananas.

As I said, they can't win. We'll have to see the movie to know when he dies but everyone is fodder except, apparently, the White chick.

I know but they're old enough now that they can be remade and there's at least two generations that never saw the originals and if they did, they wouldn't get into them because the effects would look "cheap" (in the age of "Avatar").

But I'm telling you right now, when they remake "Escape From New York", I'm going. :D

if this is a prequel I hope they dont fuck it up....when I was a kid the remake with Kurth had me all fucked up...especially this part had me like :eek::eek:

Thanks

This looks more like a remake than a prequel.

Nah, the Norway flag is a giveaway that this is a prequel.

it's suppose to be the prequel..but they already fucked up cause there was no girl on dat team plus it's to many of them..if i remember correctly the team only suppose to have 6 people none who which was black or a chick how do i know dis in the original movie they had found a picture of the team at the location

That's true, there was a picture. But they could cover that by having the Black guy and the chick come later. They would have to cover all these minor details but I'd be surprised if they did.

i have mixed feelings about this. i would hope that they don't cater to the dumbass blood gore, blood gore, cheap thrill crowd, but i won't hold my breath. can they even keep the tension if this is a prequel and we know whats gonna happen, or are they gonna fuck up and let someone survive anyway? ehhh they shoulda just re-released JC's version in theaters...

I can't understand how this could be a sequel. There are some many events from this trailer that remind of how the orginal played out. Was too many similarities. Also, if i'm not mistaken, in the beginning of The Thing, wasn't there a chopper shooting at the Americans or was that another movie?

Edit.... They were shooting @ the infected dog. And ended up being killed.

remake, sequel, prequel just hope they havent fucked it up, if not i have the original.

Unnecessary but I'm still going to see it. This is my favorite time of the year when the horror movies are on cable for the entire month and there are at least a couple good ones in the theatres.
