The Supreme Court is not only about abortion

Republikkkans are full of shit. They call it pro life, but it's actually pro-birth. They don't care about the life of the un-wanted child to the un-wanting mother. They'll see how many of their sweet lil girl are actually carrying mixed parentage children.

It was never about abortion. It's just a cover. Racism thrives in deniability. It gives them an excuse for voting for the white supremacist party.

IN 25 years of working around conservatives, I have never overheard one of them talking about abortion. It's a fake issue.

Republikkklans should be forced to adopt one un wanted baby since they care about life so much . Also abolish the death penalty . All lives matter?

I agree but the Supreme Court undid the Voting Rights Act just a few years ago, but somehow that is talked about less than hypothetical threats to abortion rights.

The court rules on discrimination laws, education, healthcare, so many things that affect black rights and quality of life.

Why is the conversation only about abortion?

On the right, it is because of religion. And it being an easier issue to talk about than undoing civil rights and rigging everything in favor of the rich.

But on the left, I think it speaks to the hierarchy of who matters within the Democratic party.

See my post above yours. It's never really about abortion. That's just a cover issue. It's all lies.

No demographic has more abortions than white women. They use it as a form of birth control.

I find it entertaining how many people are more passionate about issues outside of their own household. Don’t want an “unplanned” child? Protect yourself.

If COVID-19 hasn’t shown you much, the main thing it should is that people are so lost they cannot make decisions for or lead themselves and need someone or something (in this case - the government) to tell them what to do.

Yep. I saw it after I replied.

I agree it is a cover issue for most of the politicians and donors. But I think a lot of the rank and file voters really do care about it. There are people who walk around with shirts about "the modern holocaust" with fetuses on it. A lot of people care deeply about abortion.

It's more than religion. It's about the survival of the white race itself. White women are having less babies and abortions continues the decrease in the white population.

No, I didn't live and work among politicians and the donor class. I was among the base. They really don't give a fuck about abortion. I have never overheard any republican (white people) seriously talk about abortion and was paying attention and keeping track. If they mention abortion, it's like checking a box, they get it out of the way for cover and then spend the vast depth of the conversation on culture (racial) issues. I've heard them plenty of times say that if a certain woman they were fucking with got pregnant, they would force her to have an abortion. I have heard far more black woman say they have a problem with it than white people.

Only twice have I ever had a conversation about abortion and both of them were seriously religious. I mean like bible camp type religious, cut the church lawn religious.

It's just a cover like deregulation.

This is what Susan Collins and Murkowski wanted. Fuck all these Trump white women.

Americans not taking their votes seriously :smh:

Shit, over the last few years there have been plenty of mentions on here about the SCOTUS gutting the voting rights act.

Other SCOTUS issues certainly get discussed. But the importance of the Supreme Court often gets boiled down, inexplicably, just to abortion rights. Just look at post #2.

There sure are a lot of regular people posting about abortion today, many of them Republican voters. There's no incentive for them to bullshit and, unlike the donors and politicians, they are not thinking "Yes, we will say it is about abortion but what I'm really gleeful about is the opportunity to undo labor rights and further deregulation."

Everybody isn't that savvy and everyone doesn't need to be. They aren't all full of shit.

The way I look at it now if the GOP select and confirm a new Supreme Court Justice before November 3th…The so call “Evangelicals” will not have to vote for Trump. Some Evangelicals are tired of the Trump administration. The Religious Right can fight anything (new laws/bills) created by the DEMs in court and win.

If a new Supreme Court Justice is NOT selected and confirmed by election they will overwhelmingly go with Trump to get the pick.

Lets be clear about something. People repeat and talk about a lot of things they don't give a fuck about or that they are hypocrites about just to be anti whatever you are about (or what they perceive you are about).

That's how propaganda works! It's all lies. They don't really give a fuck about abortion. Deficits were a huge issue for them until Republicans get into office. You don't easily lose a true heartfelt issue like that unless you never really cared.

The only reason why the court matters for abortion is because they think the same judges who will vote to overturn abortion will overturn civil rights legislation. It's race, it's always race. They view a judge who will rule against abortion as one of their tribe. They're just showing support for their tribe. They're signaling their support for the the tribe.

I'm telling you, I know how white people really think. They reveal a lot about themselves when they speak.

Don't believe the hype. You think getting another Supreme Court Justice on the bench equals job done for the useful idiot? No...the evangels are a fantastic bunch who want this country to be a theocracy.

I believe that is generally true of the power brokers but we just have a difference of opinion with regard to "always." I think some of these religious anti-abortion activists are very sincere, white and black. I've dealt with them and that's my assessment. I understand where you're coming from and we agree with regard to Mitch McConnell and the propagandists. I just have to agree to disagree with regard to those buying the propaganda and those with sincere religious views or who just strongly believe abortion is murder.

I don't like to speak in general terms like "always" but the truth is I've never met a conservative who wasn't racist. To use a Trump phrase, "I suppose" some aren't racist but I've never met them. How do I know they're racist, because they tell me.

Don't take this as an insult because I don't engage like that anonymously over the internet but .you remind me of people I've met before. A lot more often than I would have thought. I've only had a few black co-workers over the years but I've often pulled them aside to warn them which co-workers were extremely racist. Some would ask me " well how do you know?" I'm like because they didn't know I was black and said some racist shit to me. They wouldn't believe me, they felt that as long as the white person didn't use the n-word it wasn't racist.

I remember when I joined a new Army Reserve unit. A brother was assigned to show me around. He warned me like "This captain is racist, he don't like brothers so I bet he don't like you Puerto Ricans either". I told the brother I wasn't Rican but black, mixed. Not for 1 second did I doubt what that brother had said. It was like every black soldier already knew it. You know what, that very first day I heard that captain say some racist shit.

I believe it was Maya Angelou who said "when people show you who they really are, believe them the first time". Or James Baldwin, "I can't believe what you say because I see what you do".

This is exactly what I said that you disagreed with. Abortion is just a cover issue.

One quote in particular:
In 1979, at Weyrich’s behest, Falwell founded a group that he called the Moral Majority. Along with a vanguard of evangelical icons including D. James Kennedy, Pat Robertson and Tim LaHaye, Falwell’s organization hoisted the banner of the “pro-family” movement, declaring war on abortion and homosexuality. But were it not for the federal government’s attempts to enable little black boys and black girls to go to school with little white boys and white girls, the Christian right’s culture war would likely never have come into being. “The Religious New Right did not start because of a concern about abortion,” former Falwell ally Ed Dobson told author Randall Balmer in 1990. “I sat in the non-smoke-filled back room with the Moral Majority, and I frankly do not remember abortion ever being mentioned as a reason why we ought to do something.”
