From "The Slave Ship" which aired on November 1, 2015

Two hundred years ago, a ship named for St. Joseph, sank in a terrible storm. Half the crew survived but the sea closed over more than 200 men, women and children who were locked below the deck. You would think a disaster like that would be legendary. But the St. Joseph was a slave ship. And the screams bursting from the hold were the cries of cargo.

"Bodies and souls laid side by side with no room to move, no sanitation. Many people on these voyages died."

Today, the silence of those lost voices is unbearable to Lonnie Bunch. He's the founding director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, now under construction in Washington.Bunch found that to tell history the Smithsonian would have to make history. And, so began a quest for the remains of a shipwreck in a land so unchanged that an 18th century slave would recognize it today as the last shore he called home.

18 Century Slave Port that oversaw the trafficking of over 400,000 slaves still standing and unchanged.

Lonnie Bunch:"A male in the late 18th century, early 19th century would go anywhere from $600 to $1,500, which is probably about, oh, $9,000 to $15,000 today.

What truly hurts my heart more than anything else is the fact that we have new age black people denying this ever happened. An entire segment of the so called "conscious community" has been saying for some time that African Americans did not arrive here on slave ships and we are not from Africa. I swear you would never hear a Jew denying their holocaust. :smh:

Yeah, I heard a dude claim that there isn't any archeological evidence of slave ships therefore slavery didn't exist. dude was dead serious. I think he was a moor :smh:

The irony of it all is that the so called "Moors" of the "conscious community" are the ones saying this. If you know anything about the slave trades evolution you know it started with the Arabs first with the help of Moors. They in turn helped the Euro's get into the slave trade and were some of the biggest slave trappers.

How the hell can a new age "Moor" ask for proof when the real Moors had a hand in it to begin with?

very nice piece they did on that slave ship..couldnt believe the trading of slaves was that big...going back to d.c to see that exhibit...

thats some deep shit, any links ?

It just hit me, the irony of a "slave fortress" when that type of construction (castles etc) are of African origin. :smh:

No links. Just read up on the history of the slave trades (plural) in Africa. The Arabs were the first to enslave Africans and they used Arabized Islam to justify it. African leaders were forced to convert to Islam or be killed, enslaved or taxed. The Moors were the ones who went into interior Africa to force the Arab agenda.

After the fall of the Moors in Spain they got on board with the Euro's and sold them slaves and many of the Moors were enslaved themselves. (Irony again)

Had the Moors not helped the Arab destroy those ancient cultures in Africa she would have been able to withstand the Euro slave trade and fight it off.

Props. Researching this now

for all you gullible muthafuckas..

Lets to a little math..

there will be zero logical response to this..LOL

"1. Over a period of 300 years, is it fair to say that 60,000 slaves were transported annually to the Americas or has the transportation of slaves to the Americas been one big myth?

2. The largest seagoing vessel carried 400 slaves but not all of the ships were that large.

3. Time of passage was 3 - 4 months. That means 200 vessels/ships per year would have to travel carrying 300 people. One ship could make 3 passages per year. The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database says there were 1100 - 1400 voyages made over that 300 year period. If that is the case and each ship carried 400 people, the total number would be 560,000 Africans were transported. It still does not add up."

hmmm maybe because millions were already HERE!!

This comes right in time for the smithsonian grand opening of their

african american museum....

They could find a three thousand year ol ship intact..

but not a four hundred year old, or three hundred year old slave ship from this trans atlantic slave trade ...

Just fuckin ONE..

Uluburun-ancient-shipwreck.jpg

Uluburun, one of the oldest and wealthiest shipwrecks ever discovered
The Uluburun is a 3,300-year-old shipwreck discovered off the coast of Uluburun (Grand Cape), near Kaş in south-western Turkey. It is among the oldest ships ever discovered and contained one of the wealthiest and largest known assemblages of Late Bronze Age items found in the Mediterranean. The ship was carrying over 20 tons of cargo, believed to be a royal order. In total, more than 18,000 spectacular artifacts have been recovered, including precious jewels, luxurious raw materials, and even the golden seal of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti.
The Uluburun was first discovered in 1982 by Mehmed Çakir, a local sponge diver, on a steep rocky slope at a depth of 44 to 52 metres, with artifacts scattered down to 61 metres. Excavating it was a mammoth task, and required eleven consecutive campaigns of three to four months, conducted by the Institute of Nautical Archaeology, totalling 22,413 dives between 1984 and 1992.
The ship itself was 15 metres long and is the earliest known example of a ship constructed using the advanced mortise and tenon technique, where planks were joined by flat tongues of wood inserted into slots cut into the planks. The wood is Lebanese cedar, indigenous to the mountains of Lebanon, southern Turkey, and central Cyprus. The featured image is an accurate replica wreck of the Uluburun, showing how the ship would have once appeared.

In Detroit were I grew up the African American museum has a slave trade exhibit. Seeing a life size display of the slave ship, the way they packed them in, was quite eye opening as a child.
