Hells yeah Jackie Wilson was tha shit. My moms used to play all of his records for us way back in the day. You can only imagine what his career could've been had Berry Gordy signed him to Motown.

Elvis also stole shit from Chuck Berry, Lil' Richard, & James Brown too.
:smh:

To paraphrase the late Ray Charles, "Elvis did nothing but copy black music." No disrespect KLEPTO but Elvis's name doesn't belong in the same book as Jackie Wilson, forget the same sentence. Jackie Wison aka Mr. Excitement was an incredible entertainer. If you watch Prince in his earlier days you can see where Prince used some of Wilson's dance moves. I remember this cat from my childhood and I can tell you women back in the day, loved this cat.

jackie drove the women "CRAZY"...and the all brothers wanted to be him. he could sing and dance like no other. when elvis came out all he was was a cheap imitation of Jackie......................

DEATH
Wilson suffered a massive heart attack while playing a Dick Clark show at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on September 29, 1975, falling head-first to the stage; he was singing "Lonely Teardrops". A comatose Wilson lived in a hospital until his death at age 49. His medical costs were paid for by Elvis Presley . Al Green, the soul singer, was one of the few artists who regularly visited a bed-ridden Jackie.

Wilson is interred in the Westlawn Cemetery in Wayne, Michigan.

(Right, Elvis with Jackie Wilson)
Throughout the years Elvis always showed his appreciation for his black musical roots. In his 1954 Sun Studio’s ‘Million Dollar’ jam Elvis spoke about his admiration of singer Jackie Wilson who Elvis believed had outdone him with a better version of ‘Don’t Be Cruel’. Elvis latter acknowledged Wilson’s style & footwork when he filmed ‘Return To Sender’ for the film ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’.

When Jackie Wilson had a stroke in 1975 leaving him unable to perform and hospitalised, Elvis covered a large proportion of Wilson’s medical bills.

"A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis." - Jackie Wilson.

Huge misconception about Elvis. Dude was a funny, down-home type of southern cat that didn't have a problem with anybody unless they came between him and some pussy (and that included Black pussy too  . Naturally those groupies had to be kept on the ultra hush).

It's his FANS that were largely bigots. But Elvis was alright.

Music is something that is always evolving. Every rapper had to be influenced from the rappers of the 80's including eminem, and they had to be influenced by someone before. I think I have seen around 3 documentaries (or movie) on Elvis and they always give props to black music (gospel) as his inspiration.

I remember growing up hearing that wilson song "lonley teardrop" playing almost every sunday on the radio.

Here is a quote from answers.com of their version of elvis's view on race........

Views On Race

In 1956, a Boston reporter said that Elvis had said, "the only thing ******s can do for me is buy my records and shine my shoes." The claim has since been proved untrue (in part by the fact that Elvis was never in Boston until 1971), but it remains a popular urban legend.

As early as 1956, he sponsored an All-Negro Day at the Memphis Zoo. In the '50s, a DJ refused to interview Elvis because he was a "******-lover". Elvis told guitarist Scotty Moore, "Go tell that son of a bitch, I'm damn proud to be a ****** lover!"

He had close friendships with B.B. King, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown, Fats Domino, Mahalia Jackson, Jim Brown, and Muhammad Ali. After Jackie Wilson went into a coma in the '70s, Elvis supported his family financially.

Elvis requested to meet Martin Luther King in the mid-60s, but never got the opportunity. His song "If I Can Dream" is partly about King's assassination. Elvis later quoted part of King's I Have A Dream speech on stage.

Elvis was accompanied on stage by The Sweet Inspirations from 1969 until his death. Once, while in Texas, the owner of a venue refused to allow them to go on stage because, he didn't "allow ******s in my arena". Elvis replied, "No Sweets, no Elvis." He also told a fan once to take a Confederate flag down from a balcony at a concert and replace it with the American flag.
