Love this video/ hate this video...
You can see the life- they joy and excitement just leave out of many of the brothers when they realize (without having to be told) what is going on, as well as seeing how happy the crackas are to be getting such an advantage.
like someone said, they feel guilty about it for a few moments (and even then, only when it is pointed out what is going on) because they know dude is spitting truth, but then they are like "Oh well, like he said; it isn't MY fault for being born into this. what am I supposed to do, let them win? I'm bout to get this money"
We don't see it in the video, but I hope he gave props to the brothers in the video that ran despite the obvious advantages the other people had. That is what we must continue to do.
For those too discouraged to run, I hope the instructor pointed out that life, unlike that race, is not about who finishes first- but closer to about how far up the field you can get- so always keep running- even though the chips may be stacked against you.
would have appreciated it much more if while dude was talking about the advantages that all those white people have in life, he had casually strolled to the opposite end of the field ("behind" the starting line) and announced that the race was actually in the opposite direction.
then declared that, as his final lesson, You cacs now know a little of how it FEELS to be in those shoes-"See, it's not so easy to just *Oh well* and rationalize the status quo when the situation is reversed, is it?" To see people with privilege be so far ahead that they walk to, or are handed the prize before you've even gone a few steps.
