""The Origin of AIDS" is a CBC Witness documentary on just what the title implies.

This isn't a raving conspiracy piece, but a well researched film which examines the theory that AIDS migrated from monkeys to humans during the late-1950s race to develop alternative polio vaccines. One experimental vaccine was tested and created using chimpanzee kidneys in central Africa where over a million Africans were innoculated. These pieces fit amazingly well into the agreed upon origins of AIDS and raises the question of whether medical science itself inadvertently is responsible for the AIDS crisis.

While the video sometimes plods along debating the pros and cons of some points, and cannot help but to do some "he said/she said" analysis, the film is unique in that it deals with an issue which mainstream science has ignored and shys away from.

All in all, it's a thought-provoking piece on a fascinating topic (but sadly, one which doesn't help the millions of people suffering from AIDS)."

CNN is still running strong on their "Black America" stories and had this earlier today:

Report: Black U.S. AIDS rates rival some African nations

"AIDS in America today is a black disease," says Phill Wilson, founder of the Black AIDS institute.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The AIDS epidemic among African-Americans in some parts of the United States is as severe as in parts of Africa, according to a report out Tuesday.
"AIDS in America today is a black disease," says Phill Wilson, founder of the Black AIDS institute.

"AIDS in America today is a black disease," says Phill Wilson, founder of the Black AIDS institute.

"Left Behind - Black America: A Neglected Priority in the Global AIDS" is intended to raise awareness and remind the public that the "AIDS epidemic is not over in America, especially not in Black America," says the report, published by the Black AIDS Institute, an HIV/AIDS think tank focused exclusively on African-Americans.

"AIDS in America today is a black disease," says Phill Wilson, founder and CEO of the institute and himself HIV-positive for 20 years. "2006 CDC data tell us that about half of the just over 1 million Americans living with HIV or AIDS are black."

Although black people represent only about one in eight Americans, one in every two people living with HIV in the United States is black, the report notes.

The report uses just-released data from UNAIDS and existing CDC and Census data to highlight grim statistics:

• AIDS remains the leading cause of death among black women between ages 25 and 34. It's the second-leading cause of death in black men 35-44

U.S. AIDS policies neglect blacks

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. policies and cash may be leading the fight against AIDS globally, but they have neglected the epidemic among black Americans, the Black AIDS Institute said in a report released on Tuesday.

While blacks account for one in eight people in the United States, half of all Americans infected with HIV are black, the report found.

"We are 30 percent of the new cases among gay men, 40 percent of the new cases among men in general, 60 percent of the cases among women and 70 percent of the new cases among youth," Black AIDS Institute CEO Phill Wilson told reporters in a telephone briefing.

"Yet ... the U.S. response to AIDS in black America stands in sharp contrast to the international response to the epidemic overseas," he added.

Al Sharpton, a prominent activist and founder of the National Action Network, agreed.

"U.S. policy makers seem to be much more interested in the epidemic in Botswana than the epidemic in Louisiana. This is an unnecessary and deadly choice. Both need urgent attention," Sharpton said.

Dr. Helene Gayle, former head of AIDS for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and now president of the poverty-fighting charity CARE, said many HIV infected blacks are not in traditional high-risk groups such as men who have sex with men, injecting drug users and sex workers.

"The federal government's approach to the epidemic in black America is fundamentally flawed," Gayle said. This includes both a lack of funding and poor targeting of the money, she said. Continued...
