Another year, another season of The Flash that we wanted to be just a little bit better than it was. Season four did provide slightly more levity than the past couple years, and if you liked the character most responsible for that, then we’ve got some great news for you. (If you didn’t, maybe it’s best to roll with the super-fast punches.)

Deadline reports Hartley Sawyer, who plays Ralph Dibney, a.k.a. Elongated Man, is joining the series as a full-time cast member for season five, the implication being that Ralph will become a full-fledged part of Team Flash. In some ways, this is heartening news: Maybe it will help continue to push this show back in the direction of “more fun, less dreary moping” that it often had trouble doing while mucking about with Clifford DeVoe over the past 23 episodes. Certainly, with the likelihood of more time travel next season—thanks to the cliffhanger appearance of a characterwe won’t name to avoid spoilers—it would be nice to keep a light touch instead of getting bogged down in the time-travel mechanics that caused such dour problems in season two (and three, to a lesser degree). Then again, if it means more fart jokes, maybe the writing team needs to take a step back, exhale slowly, and think about how best to find the funny. Surely the show can stretch its creative muscles enough that—actually, no, let’s not go there; if it can avoid fart jokes, we’ll avoid the shitty puns. Deal, The Flash?

The Flash Will Die in DC's Next Comic Event
Heroes-in-Crisis-DC-Comic-Art.jpg

Fans of The Flash, prepare yourselves: because another DC speedster is about to die. At least, that's what writer Tom King is teasing as part of his larger, heartfelt, and universe-changing event, Heroes in Crisis.

The event had previously been announced by DC as a new kind of "Crisis" than the planet-shattering, continuity condensing, cosmic catastrophes of previous events bearing the same name. But as timely and relevant as this Heroes in Crisis may be, King confirms that it just wouldn't be a Crisis without a Flash falling.

RELATED: DC Confirms Flash is Faster Than Superman

That cruel tease came during a DC press event focused on the Heroes series, featuring Tom King and artists Clay Mann and Mitch Gerads hosting a real-world version of Sanctuary, the superhero therapy center at the heart of the story. King warned that he wasn't supposed to give so telling a tease, but went ahead and did it anyway (there's clearly more to this book than even a dead Flash). He referred back to the Infinite Crisisera of DC's recent history, when Wally West was absorbed into the Speed Force like Barry Allen had been, but with his wife refusing to let him leave without her or their twins.

Moments later, it was Bart Allen's turn to enter the Speed Force like his grandpa, Barry (Bart would return and, again, be absorbed during Flashpoint). Quoting words from DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio at the time that he could never forget, King teased, "...you can't have a Crisis without a dead Flash."

His comments leave little doubt about there being "a dead Flash" by the end of the story, meaning fans can issue their own predictions as to which he's referring to. At present, those words put Barry Allen, Wally West, and the newly returned Impulse, Bart Allen into the crosshairs. And no matter which one feels the narrative axe come swinging for their head, fans are going to be upset. But then, loss, regret, and 'failing to save everyone' seem like themes guaranteed to be explored in Heroes in Crisis. Both before the violent murder that kicks off the story, and in the wake of it. But whether The Flash-- or a Flash will live to see that fallout remains to be seen.

So far, King's run leading to Batman's wedding, as well as his short Superman story in Action Comics #1000 have excelled when grappling with those same ideas, and his work in humanizing the coldest hero in DC's roster have all been leading to Heroes in Crisis. Still, DC fans have been heartbroken and outraged by the death of a Flash before.

Here's hoping the story demanding "a dead Flash" makes it a worthy sacrifice. So who do you think is most likely to go?

Heroes in Crisis #1 will begin on September 26th, 2018.

Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Casts The Flash TV Stars

Kevin Smith is "rebooting" Jay and Silent Bob - and the filmmaker has chosen The Flash headliners Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh, and Carlos Valdes to join the cast. The film, a sequel to 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, isn't actually a reboot; instead, it's set to parody Hollywood's habit of rebooting popular movie properties - with a story that sees Jay and Silent Bob head to Tinsel Town to stop a reboot of Bluntman and Chronic. Longtime fans will see the humor in that premise - as the first film in the series saw Jay and Silent Bob travel to Hollywood to stop Bluntman and Chronic from being adapted into a movie.

Previously, Smith had suggested that the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot would begin filming this fall - with a script that star Jason Mewes described as "amazing." Now, thanks to the Comic-Con 2018, we know one reason the film is targeting a fall start date: The Flash.

Speaking at the annual Evening with Kevin Smith panel that, traditionally, closes down Saturday programming in Hall H, the fan-favorite director confirmed he'll start filming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot in November - and that Flash collaborators Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh, and Carlos Valdes would be joining the production.

Speculation immediately moved to fan-casting Grant as the rebooted Chronic and Valdes as the rebooted Bluntman with Cavanagh portraying the reboot's director; however, Smith did not specify which characters the CW alums would be portraying - much less whether they'd be portraying the eponymous heroes (nor how big a role the Flash stars will actually play).

An even more outrageous (and as a result fitting) variation of this theory suggests Gusting and Valdes will portray themselves - as the actors cast in the movie. As a result, hope that Gustin and Valdes will be cast as Jay and Silent Bob's cartoonish alter egos - as the actors (much less the actors playing themselves) set to star in the Bluntman and Chronicreboot - is at this point premature.

That said, there's no doubt it would be fun to see The Flash actors get to riff on Smith and Mewes - especially after the Jay and Silent Bob actors guest-starred on Flash. While we can't know for sure, the timing is certainly encouraging, since a November 2018 shoot for the production would position filming alongside work on The Flash season 5 - which continues shooting in Vancouver this fall (with Smith, potentially, at the helm of at least one Arrowverse episode).

The Vancouver studio, November production, and familiarity between Smith and the CW actors, combine into an ideal filming opportunity, one that would allow Smith to fit his project into Gustin, Cavanagh, and Valdes' busy schedules, on their home turf: a production studio (which could come in very handy for a film that is supposed to take place in Hollywood and, to that end, will include scenes on studio backlots).

Still, Gustin, Cavanaugh, and Valdes could only have minor roles - rather than the loftier idea that the three will be co-starring opposite the titular stoners. We'll have to wait for more details from Smith but, whether the Flash team gets significant screentime or smaller roles, it's still fun to see the filmmaker finding new ways to collaborate with actors as entertaining and well-liked as Gustin, Cavanaugh, and Valdes.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is shaping up to be a clever, and presumably very meta, installment in a film series that's well-known for inside jokes and self-deprecating humor. We'll look forward to further details when Smith is prepared to share - and hope that other fan-favorite Arrowverse actors might also make an appearance.

Grant Gustin has taken to Instagram to address fans’ reactions to a recently leaked photo of a new, still-in-progress suit for The Flash‘s upcoming fifth season.

“Here’s the thing about this bulls–t photo leak — it’s a cool suit,” Gustin wrote Wednesday. “It’s a terrible photo that I was unaware was being taken, much less being posted. Some things need work and they will be worked on. We’ll get there.”

But the rude comments about Barry Allen’s new threads upset Gustin far less than the remarks about how his body looked in the suit, as he’s had “20+ years of kids and adults telling me I was too thin.”

“I’m naturally thin, and my body is greatly affected by stress,” he went on to explain. “Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season. … I’m happy with my body and who I am and other kids who are built like me should be able to feel the same way.”

Grant Gustin, star of The CW superhero series “The Flash,” got pretty furious with Internet trolls after a major leak in production opened the door for them to body shame him and bad-mouth his time on the hit show.

On Wednesday, someone leaked a test photo of The Flash’s new super suit for Season 5. As fans of the show know, the costume gets tweaked just a bit each season as the character’s tech wizard, Cisco Ramon, continues to innovate it. When someone shared a draft of the suit Gustin will wear in the new season, fans were quick to comment that not only did the suit look bad, but the naturally thin actor didn’t have the physique to properly play the comic book hero.

Gustin took to Instagram later in the day to not only chastise whoever leaked the photo, but explain that his thin frame has been a subject of controversy in his life for years.

“So here’s the thing about this bulls--- photo leak. It’s a cool suit,” Gustin began. “That’s a terrible photo that I was unaware was being taken, much less being posted. Some things need work and they will be worked on. We’ll get there.”

Gustin continued: “As far as the body shaming. That’s what pisses me off. Not even just for my sake. I’ve had 20+ years of kids and adults telling me or my parents I was too thin. I’ve had my own journey of accepting it. But there’s a double standard where it’s OK to talk sh-- about a dudes body.”

The star explained that he takes the role of The Flash seriously and tries his best to look the part. However, he admits to suffering from stress while working which makes gaining weight hard for him.

“I do my best to stay in shape and add as much size as I can throughout these seasons. I’m naturally thin, and my appetite is greatly affected by stress. Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season. Thus, gaining weight is a challenge for me.”

“The Flash” is a key tentpole in The CW and DC Comics’ shared superhero universe that also includes “Arrow,” “Supergirl,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Black Lightning” and, soon, “Batgirl.” The shows target a teenage audience and many of the stars take great pains to be role models to the youth. This is something Gustin focused on in his statement as well.

“I’m happy with my body and who I am and other kids who are built like me and thinner than me should be able to feel the same way. Not only that, but they should be able to feel like THEY could be a superhero on tv or film or whatever it may be someday,” he concluded. “I love the suit that has been designed for me, and I think when everyone sees it in its entirety, you will love it too. Things have been adjusted since that leaked shot was taken, and more things will come to be adjusted until it feels right.”

I just hope this young man has some stable people who love him around

(and his money is straight)

he seems like he is going through a lot mentally and physically

You can see IT.

His sexuality his identity his "blackness" even his physical appearance.

I think he DOES need a break from the limelight

he REALLY needs therapy...cause all THIS is a lot.

peace to him.

I say good riddance man. I'm sick of fag shit being projected to us on TV. I mean too many twists on characters glorifying that shit. Go head with all that BS. He will be ok. Got lots of company

After the last two crossovers, I'm there for this one in December. But....I would have preferred to see some other DC characters rather than Batwoman. It's hard to make me care about a Batwoman if theres no Batman.
ikr..continous name-dropping (i.e "A friend of mine and his butler told me a lot about you",etc  ) wont cut it
