So far. I think Ross will pass him but B.o.B had a headstart and had a strong crossover song in "Airplanes", which is being used in romantic comedy soundtracks and commercials.

Record label is probably crying. Do you know how much money it takes to get a single into rotation on major radio!

All of the songs from the album were big R&B hits and made the pop Top 40, with "OMG" being a gigantic worldwide #1 (his 9th). It's all about singles these days. Album sales are a bonus. Usher has done EXTEMELY well, given that people were writing him off. (Not to mention his huge success with Bieber, the biggest male teen idol since MJ.)

Yeah, but singles are only .99cents a D/L / $4-6 physical media vs. $12-14 for an album.

Put it like this, for every single you want to release on an album it costs ~$500,000 for national media push and rotation insertion.

~$3-4M to market and promote the entire album including POP signage, posters, etc.

~$500K-$700K to shoot a video.

I doubt the record label is crying. You forgot to factor in the singles that sold millions also. No user may be short changed on revenue but it looks like the label made good money from this project

"OMG!" charted at number three on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, two on the Pop Songs chart, and three on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. It also topped the Rhythmic Top 40, making Usher the first artist to collect ten number ones on the chart, above 50 Cent, Beyoncé, Nelly, T-Pain, and Mariah Carey, each with seven.

Singles

Official singles

* "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)", was released as the first official US single on December 8, 2009. The single peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The video for "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)" did not feature Plies. He is also not featured in the final version of the song on the album. The song was released as the second international single in July, 2010.

* "Lil Freak", which was firstly released only as a promo single prior to the album's release, had been later announced as the album's official second single in the United States. Usher and Nicki Minaj shot the music video for the song on March 9, 2010 in Los Angeles with director TAJ. It reached number 8 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chartand number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. It became Usher's fourth Top 40 hit single from Raymond v. Raymond, when including the buzz single "Papers".

* "OMG", which features will.i.am, is the third official US single and the first international single. The song received mixed reviews, complimenting the song's dance and club vibe but criticizing the Auto-Tune effect. It reached number-one in Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States. The song became his ninth number one in the United States, making him the first 2010s artist to collect number one singles in three consecutive decades, and only the fourth artist of all-time to achieve the feat. Usher also became the third artist to have at least one number one song from five consecutive studio albums. The song's choreography and dance-heavy accompanying music video has been compared to that of "Yeah!".

* "There Goes My Baby", which was released as the second promotional single prior to the album's release, was released to airplay as the album's fourth single in the United States on June 15, 2010. The song reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number-one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, becoming Usher's eleventh number-one hit on that chart.

Promo singles

* "Papers" was released as the first promotional single for the album in October 2009 on iTunes. Despite being only a promotional release, it topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for two consecutive weeks, becoming his tenth number one single on that chart. It also peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

* "More" is the third promo single, and was released on March 16, 2010 on iTunes. Following its digital release, it debuted at number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was used to promote the 2010 NBA All-Star Game on TNT. It was also performed before the game was tipped off by Usher himself. It was also used in a contest for the Body by Milk Got Noise? program. In the United Kingdom, with the release of the album, it debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number 89.

Justin Timberlake doesn't count?

Young Bucc puttin up Dorrough numbers! Shoulda stayed in line. :smh:

Naw, at least he's putting up some numbers. G-Unit is done.

Justin was 21 when his first solo album came out in 2002. Where is he anyway? His second and last album came out in 2006.

Justin Timberlake wasn't a star before his first solo album?

And "teen idol" means the celebrity has to be a teen? Were The Beatles? Elvis? Chuck Berry?

He's actor now. Got a SAG card and everything.

Singles sales means they're making money twice, and a lot more money is made off single sales than in the past, because of the accessibility of amazon and itunes.

The days of an artist selling like they did before are over. Your numbers are off, because labels have scaled back spending.

Especially that $500-$700 video.

They're continuing to push his singles of an otherwise dead album, because each single is getting a lot of downloads. The album would have been scrapped and he would have been recording another one if it wasn't profitable. That's also why you have Versus, a way to release music that didn't make the album.

You'd be lucky to get $100,000 for a music video budget, much less $500,000.

 @ 500k for a music video. Those days are LONG GONE. Record labels started cutting costs in about 2000. A music video at tops cost about 70-80k. Lady Gaga's are in the 200 to 300k as are Eminems but that's about as high as you'll see. Anthony Mandler does videos for the LOW which is why so many artists are running to him right now.

Drake's had four.

Over, Find Your Love, Miss Me and Fancy.

fancy just got relase when he was aleady plat so that don't count he if he keeps selling the way he is he will have a chance at 2 million just look at black eye peas did not have a big first week but was selling steady every week and is at 2 million plus

just look at black eye peas did not have a big first week but was selling steady every week and is at 2 million plus

Huh??? They debuted at #1 and then spent most of 2009 in the Top Ten.

Drake is NOT the Black Eyed Peas.

Unless I am missing it, Dondria did not even break the top 200? I guess JD will say to hell with her next and move on to the next artist. Too bad too, she promoted her album through all of her interviews as her bringing back real singing. She seemed like a really nice down to earth chick, but that doesn't mean a damn thing.

Unless I am missing it, Dondria did not even break the top 200?

Actually she peaked at #51 on the Top 200, and went Top Ten on the R&B chart. Her lead single was an R&B hit as well. Did just fine for a RAW newcomer, who's still building a following.

usher is a bigger more well known star then drake he don't have to be on a million songs

How about DRAKE is "NEW" so people ain't use to him. This is like peoples first Drake album.

Whereas USHER, people already got 2-3 Usher Albums so he's not generating as much hype as it use to?

WTF is this shit about Usher not generating hype??? What he's doing is pretty much amazing. Not a lot of artists who sold 10M six or seven years ago are still hip enough to sell another million today, and rack up more #1 hits. Only Eminem and Spears fit in that category, and Spears fell off for an album before bouncing back lately. Usher has gone platinum his last 5 times out (despite gaps in his releases). He's an all-time great.

Videos are done for way less nowaday's Heist. Some are done even in the 1000's.

And this right here:
24 24 08 Teflon Don, Rick Ross 13,156 -18 16,106 381,902
