The Obsession of Sarah Palin *just my opinion...*

I'm really trying to understand something, and I need the smart minds of BGOL to help me figure this one out. If Sarah Palin truly an ignorant bitch *in which most of the people on this board believes she is*, why all the posts about her? Surely, Obama will destroy her if she runs for president in 2012. Yea, Obama can out talk her. He can make better promises to us than her. Not to mention, he is the first black president, that has to count for something.....right? I mean why are people Fact Checking a book she wrote? Why is all the attention going towards a woman that has that funny ass accent, and looks like she can make a baby at any given second? I'm really trying to understand why Sarah Palin even makes it on this board honestly. I mean I swore Obama was suppose to be the end all be all in modern politics. So, what's really with the Obsession of Sarah Palin?

I can go off, and say some conservative talking points about how she relates to the little person more than Obama does. I can also rant about how liberals on here, and the media are terrified of her rise to popularity. However, I really don't have to make such claims. The sheer obsession with a fairly attractive, successive former governor speaks volumes. Sad thing about it, she might not run against the Anointed Prince of all Democrats. Yet, her popularity produces a disturbance in the political force. Funny thing about it, she should be the least of any liberals worries. If I was a liberal, I would watch out for Romney, but that's just me. Why Romney you may ask? Romney has predicted all of Obama's mistakes, and he can debate like Reagan. Need anymore examples?

Of course, I will have some fuckhead on here trying to post an article about how irrelevant Mrs. Palin is, or how Romney did this. Just remember, with every post you make negative about them, makes them more compelling against the already 10.2% unemployment president we have now. Change is a bitch ain't it.

Just because she is ignorant doesn't mean she isn't news. However, don't think that the amount of posts means that people are shook up. If that was the case based on the amount of posts about the AMA and Black Friday those two events are up there with the moon landing.

You missed the point all together. My point was if Palin is a dumbass, why pay attention to her, and her dumbass followers?

If I was an Obama supporter, I wouldn't pay Palin any attention whatsoever. Did you think I was worried about Kerry? FUCK NO. Wanna know why I didn't worried about Kerry beating Bush? Reason being, I know Kerry cannot debate worth shit. That was ONE thing Bush was good with when it comes to campaigning. *of course me saying Bush was good at something is blasphemy on this board....* If Obama is the best president America ever had, and he is smarter than all the conservatives combine, why are people on this board/media so worried about lil ole Sarah?

BTW, I'm not just talking about this board. I'm talking about the whole liberal think tank.

why are people on this board/media so worried about lil ole Sarah?

Can't you figure it out Einstein? People like to crowd around car accidents. How do think circus side shows stay in existence? Personally, I hope and pray she wins the 2012 republican nomination for president. That Katie Couric interview was priceless. We need more entertainment like that. Of course her seeing Russia from Alaska which in her mind made her a foreign policy expert will go down in political comedy history.

While y'all sleepin'! I aint no Sarah Palin fan but numbers don't lie.

AP source: Palin book sells big in first week

By HILLEL ITALIE (AP) – 1 day ago

NEW YORK — Sarah Palin appears well on her way to becoming a million-selling author.

"Going Rogue" sold 700,000 copies — a number that includes pre-orders — in its first week of release, according to a publishing official close to the former Alaska governor. The official was not authorized to release the sales figure and asked not to be identified.

Palin's memoir came out Nov. 17 with a first printing of 1.5 million copies. On Friday, publisher HarperCollins announced that the printing would be increased to 2.5 million.

Few nonfiction books have debuted so well. In 2004, Bill Clinton's "My Life" sold more than 900,000 copies in its first week.

. . . why are people on this board/media so worried about lil ole Sarah?

Why are you mistaking typical media momentary-interest in Sarah Palin for people on this board being "worried" about Sarah ??? Perhaps, it is you, instead of people on this board (because until you made an issue of it, nobody was really interested) who is worried about Sarah ? ? ?

Lamarr is so gullible to the okedoke. Pre order sales are the right wing purchasers that will be giving away her book free with a subscription to the Limbaugh letter. Amazon has her book marked down to around $8 from its original $28 last time I looked. Remember, McSame and Palin lost the election large. The Kool Aid drinking right will follow her as ordered by Limbaugh, your buddy Hanity and who ever Rupert Murdock commands to carry out his orders. Remember New York 23.

*sigh* It's ok que. I know you only see what goes on in the political forum. I forgot I have to actually post comments from people on the main board/media outlets because I'm obviously making all of this up if I didn't *inserts sarcasm*. Then, when I do that, you would easily say "hey that's the main board, nobody on this forum is acting that way.." I know the game Que. To be honest, being a conservative on a black porn/political board is a lose lose situation anyway. The only thing I can do is ask questions that will make people wonder about things. BTW, wtf do I have to worry about? I mean seriously, make sense out of what you just posted.

BTW, who gives you the authority to decide what's ignorant, and what's not? Do you consider anything conservative as "ignorant"? I would like to see how ignorant I will be when Palin is running against Obama. I guess I'm ignorant to the fact that people like *I really hate naming names...but fuck it* Muck, thought, and eventually VG would be running "Palin did this" threads all day long. In fact, didn't that happened LAST ELECTION? Oh wait, more ignorance huh?

Seriously man, who really gives a shit about Sarah Palin? The media is in its usual frenzy over any person who, for the moment, is suitable for its immediate need for headline making -- and, the questions you raise in this thread simply show that YOU may be caught-up in that same frenzy:

YOU: If Sarah Palin truly an ignorant bitch *in which most of the people on this board believes she is*, why all the posts about her?

What in your mind would equate the number of post about a person with whether or not that person is ignorant, or not ??? The answer should be, it doesn't because high-post count could just as logically be about a really smart or ingenious person as it would be about a really dumb-ass. In other words, post-count doesn't say anything substantive, one way or the other, about the person -- and -- your interest in anti-Palin post-counts doesn't say anything substantive either, one way or the other, about Palin or anti-Palin posters except, perhaps, you're as strung-out as the media is ???

YOU: Surely, Obama will destroy her if she runs for president in 2012. Yea, Obama can out talk her. He can make better promises to us than her. Not to mention, he is the first black president, that has to count for something.....right?

How does this not sound like a fucking 10 year old's sour grapes: Nah, nah, na, nan, nah ???

Nevertheless, I think it exposes the underlying theme of your entire rant. You pretend to be questioning one thing, (high anti-Palin post counts), but whats stuck in your craw is November 5, 2008 AND your utter disdain for someone believes he has your best interest at heart, despite the fact that you disagree with his beliefs, and who has achieved more than you ever will, even in your wildest dreams. Some people have a more simple explanation for it: Hate. And, you do a poor job of disguising it.

YOU: I mean why are people Fact Checking a book she wrote? Why is all the attention going towards a woman that has that funny ass accent, and looks like she can make a baby at any given second? I'm really trying to understand why Sarah Palin even makes it on this board honestly. I mean I swore Obama was suppose to be the end all be all in modern politics. So, what's really with the Obsession of Sarah Palin?

See what I mean? (See just above) Need I quote more of your, ad nauseum ???

Hey Lamarr, I saw a commercial on the Faux Snooze channel selling Palin’s book for $4.95 with a subscription to the Newsmax letter. Now you know who bought all of those pre ordered books. She is a trumped up celebrity, like Paris Hilton. The right wing republicans have a machine. Murdock's empire owns TV networks, book publishing, newspapers, etc. An example of your capitalism!

I can't lie, I laughed my azz off when I read this. But you know I'm not a Palin supporter (she has no substance). I'll stick with people who write books with a purpose!

Palin parody writer: NBC added laughs to Leno visit

A Maryland man who wrote a parody of Sarah Palin's autobiography and who says he and his wife flew to Los Angeles to attend the taping of Palin's appearance on NBC's "The Tonight Show" claims NBC sweetened the audience's laughter during her appearance to drown out the deafening silence, which he says was on occasion only broken by his own derisive guffawing.

Responding to Micheal Stinson's claims on the political Web site Daily Kos, NBC said Friday that "neither the audio nor the laughs were enhanced for Sarah Palin's segments on 'The Tonight Show' " this past Tuesday.

And other people we contacted who work in the industry said even if "Tonight" show did sweeten the laughter, or used "patches" of laughter from that audience to cover dead air or to smooth over edits in the show, it's not an unusual practice. Some shows do it, some don't, they said, explaining that the techniques used can be as simple as being sure to seat big laughers near microphones, to compensate for the non-laughers in the hall.

Putting on dead air, one of them noted, "would not be putting on a good product."

In his report on Daily Kos earlier this week, Stinson said: "After sitting through the taping of the show in the studio I can recount many portions where there was little or no laughter or response, but at the later broadcast they are smoothed over with applause and laughter that WERE NOT THERE at the taping. Groans, hoots, grumbling, or just dead silence - all missing."

Stinson, who lives in Ocean Pines, Md., became a Web sensation Friday after the film critic Roger Ebert tweeted about Stinson's self-described "Tonight Show" experiences.

Stinson is the author of "Going Rouge: The Sarah Palin Rogue Coloring & Activity Book," published by TBTM Media, which is a division of the Web site Take Back the Media, of which Stinson is co-founder. (He is not the author of that other Palin autobiography parody, "Going Rouge: Sarah Palin: An American Nightmare," published by Health Communications.)

Stinson also says he has a three-decades-long background in sound engineering.

"They added laughter where there was none during uncomfortable portions. Well, there was some laughter. Mine, of derision," he also wrote on the Web site. "During those pregnant pauses in her performance I was laughing long and loud, couldn't help myself as much of what she was saying was utterly surreal, ridiculous, hypocritical - nonsense spewed platitudes, pushed buttons. I was seriously thinking of leaving as it was getting hysterically unfunny."

But he didn't, because, he acknowledged to The TV Column in a telephone interview, they were there with copies of their book. "Sell, baby, sell," he said when asked what he hoped the outcome of all this would be.

"We're artists and what we mostly need money for is to make more art," he said. He and his wife brought eight copies of their book and distributed six among audience members and show crew. The other two they kept. When some in the audience rose to greet Palin, Stinson says he and his wife danced in place and jumped up and down while waving copies of the book which, he says, were not confiscated security "to their credit."

Security also did not ask them to leave when his wife continued to dance and wave the book after everyone else in the audience had sat back down, he added. They just asked her to please be seated.

When they were seated, they held the book chest high so Palin and Leno could see it. Stinson says that while no one else was laughing, he was - "very loudly."

"I was cracking up. I was ready to leave the show - I didn't want to ruin the show. Then it became fun - if nobody else was going to lauch, I'm going to laugh. I'll be on TV! I'm going to be the one going 'HAHA'," he said.

After the taping, he tweeted: "Hey, was in the belly of the beast attending taping of Palin on Tonight show, she bombed." He later retweeted, letting people know that if they watched the show they would hear his jeering laughter during dead spots in the interview and during the jokes she'd made that no one laughed at.

But when he then watched the show when NBC broadcast it Tuesday night, "I wasn't laughing . . . because selective miking during a 'live edit' or latter additions . . . ," he wrote on takebackthemedia.com, and, when that crashed after Ebert's tweet, he moved over to Daily Kos.

Feeling like he'd been made to look a liar, Stinson decided to write up his version of what NBC had done to the show.

Stinson's self-published book came out in November. He says they had not been able to properly promote it when it dropped because his wife's father had cancer.

"We weren't able to properly promote it once it got out there . . . 'Entertainment Tonight' played the cover three times - we were at a hospice while this was going on. We wanted to launch the book in a book store somewhere across from Sarah Palin, but we had to attend to a dying man. That was our life."

The other, competing Sarah Palin parody book was "kicking our butts," he said. "We would have been the No. 1 people in the field because we came out with ours before theirs, and we launched our web site before theirs. We could have sold 10 times more."

Then, NBC announced Sarah Palin was going to be one of Leno's first guests as he returned to "The Tonight Show" this week.

Stinson and his wife, Julie Sigwert, decided to go. They used frequent flier miles to travel from their home to Los Angeles to attend the taping.

He admits part of the motivation was "we wanted to escape the snow - the boredom," but adds, "There is this aura or vibe you get when you see a person, in person. We spent so much time making this book we wanted to meet the person we spent so much time writing about."
The show, he said would be "a good zone . . . it's safe for everybody. We can do a mellow protest and have a time at the same time. My wife said this is probably one of the creepiest people you'll ever be around. [My wife] is really good at vibes."

I would like to see how ignorant I will be when Palin is running against Obama.

Sarah Palin shopping reality TV series

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Sarah Palin -- reality TV star?

The former Alaska governor is teaming with uber-producer Mark Burnett ("Survivor") to shop a reality series about her home state, network sources confirm. Palin and Burnett made the rounds at least three of the major broadcasters (NBC, ABC and Fox) while in Los Angeles for her taping of "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" this week.

Palin and her family would be on-camera in the show, which one executive described as "'Planet Earth' meets Alaska meets her family," referring to Discovery's high-definition nature hit.

"There's an awful lot of interest in her," one executive said. "As a short-order series, it might work. It would depend on what kind of footage you get."

actinanass, as a Conservative, do you really think and believe that Sarah Palin is a viable candidate for Presidential election?

I ask in all seriousness.

'Refudiate' and the birth of ShakesPalin</font size></center>

Anchorage Daily News

July 20, 2010

Just when I thought no joke about our former governor would ever make me laugh, because, like most of you, I’m so tired of you-know-who I can’t even bring myself to type her name and all related humor seems more played out than a Miley Cyrus song, there appeared, sometime on Monday, a phenomenon on Twitter known as ShakesPalin.

And it was kind of funny.

It’s not news that She loves Twitter. The ex-Guv tweets 140-character rants and policy points all the time, complete with weird abbreviations and exclamation points. ShakesPalin’s roots were planted during a Fox News appearance, something to do with the Tea Party and racism, where she allegedly used a made-up word — the linguistic love child of refute and repudiate— “refudiate.”

That might have been a little nothing gaffe, brain-blip under the TV lights. But then, on Sunday, she used it again in a tweet about putting a mosque near Ground Zero. That gave the impression she didn’t know it wasn’t a word.

And because she lives under a media microscope, the blogosphere caught hold of the Twitter mistake instantly. The offending post was soon deleted. But the mama grizzly didn’t back down. Instead, @SarahPalinUSA picked up her BlackBerry and defiantly clicked away:

“'Refudiate,' 'misunderestimate,' 'wee-wee’d up.' English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!”

Don’t ask me what “wee-wee’d up” means, but nonetheless there it was: America’s most famous, elite-slamming hockey-mom comparing herself to Shakespeare.

Behold, good gentlemen and ladies, the birth of ShakesPalin.

The Twitter world (tworld?), rife with Shakespeare nerds, lit up with phony quotes attributed to #thebardofwasilla.

“But soft, what light from yonder window breaks?” wrote @freehawk, now among the most popular of ShakePalin tweeps. “It is the East, and I can see Russia from my front porch.”

“All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players,” wrote @idiot3qu3. “With the words written upon their hands.”

“A book deal, a book deal! My governorship for a book deal!” tapped out @chendrix89.

Naturally, there came a half-dozen nods to Hamlet’s most famous line:

“To be hope-y and change-y, or not to be hope-y and change-y, that is the gotcha question!” from @Tengrain.

“To Be Or Not To Be,” wrote @LiberalHitGirl, “What was the question?”

I used to think our former governor’s life was kind of Aaron Spelling, but it’s also remarkably Shakespearean. Politics. Betrayal. Romance. Money. Family. Plot twists. It’s all there. The Levi and Bristol drama, for example, lends itself easily to Romeo and Juliet.

“Two households, the Johnstons and the Palins, both alike in dignity. In fair Wasilla, where we lay our scene,” wrote @richardhine.

From @JeffHinkle, “Yea, a son-in-law is such sweet sorrow; I pray it be annulled on the morrow.”

There were hundreds of them:

@rf021: O “Wasilla! How many goodly creatures are there to shoot! How beauteous mankind is, also!”

@detritus: “What’s in a name? That which we call a pitbull by any other lipstick would be a hockey mom.”

@timburks: “Out, damned thought!”

Pretty soon somebody made a profile, claiming to be a person named ShakesPalin, re-tweeting the best of the day’s quotes. The profile picture had a french twist, glasses and Shakespeare’s iconic collar. By the end of Tuesday it was closing in on 1,000 followers.

“To be, or... also, To... that’s, y’know?” it tweeted.

I kept an eye on @SarahPalinUSA’s feed all day to see if she would, you know, whatever the r-word is. Nothing so far, but I have faith she’ll eventually get a dig in at all those elite Shakespearean haters.

As @thebyurokrat tweeted, “Revenge is a dish best served with moose.”

I just noticed but Mrs. Palin does have a lot of threads about her on the Politics board today, far more than usual.

She gets so much attention because

She's an effective attention whore. Same way Blunt can get posts/threads dedicated to him/her on the main board even after cats swear they've put Blunt on "ignore".

She's presented like a major political figure, even though the facts don't bare that out.

She, by her own hand, is an easy target. Her contemporaries like Huckabee and Romney might say something crazy but it comes and goes. Palin says something crazy on Monday and before it sinks in, she's saying something even crazier on Wednesday.

She's spawned several less successful spinoffs and knockoffs such as Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle and that always bring attention back to her.

She goes out of her way to interject herself in every big political story.

Bruh, if Sarah Palin went back to Alaska to raise her kids and shoot moose, no one would talk about her.

Exactly. She is barely qualified to run a local convenience store and that is what annoys people...that McCain couldnt have put a more undeserving and less qualified individual on the political map....the absurdity of it IS the draw.

That's true.

I just don't see any real guiding principles with her. With Obama, he's a liberal but he makes decisions unpopular with the liberal base because that's what Presidents do (same with conservatives). Palin calls herself a conservative but often takes stands that are not truly conservative and never seems to notice the difference. She just figures out where "her team" is and does that.

Everbody is missing the essential point here. It's not the person, it's the movement. The person can have tons of flaws, but if the movement is strong, that person will be swept into power. If unemployment stays high, a major terrorist attack hits, energy or food prices skyrocket, all bets are off. Anybody could become president.

In 1930 most German people asked the same question, how could a thuggish, poor, 1/4 jew be a threat to take seriously. 15 years later after 45 million dead, a man named Adolf Hitler was taken very seriously.

Never write anyone off.

No, you can write this one off. You don't just become President of the United States. People have to vote for you and Palin has alienated at least half of the country. Even Republicans don't see her as presidential. Every Republican that's ever won appealled to moderate voters, they have to. Palin hasn't shown any willingness to shit toward the center as she makes her run. You can't be President appealling to your base.

That's why I try to remember to put "conservatives" in either quotations or to capitalize the "C" because it's more a brand name than an actual thing.

In my opinion, conservatism is a political excuse to justify racism, sexism, corporatism, war mongering and classism.

It's not conservatism itself I have a problem with it. It serves a purpose and is a good counterweight to liberalism/progressivism. It's many of the people that claim to practice it but support ideas that by their nature aren't conservative at all, like being anti-environmental.
