Both giants have bought out smaller companies in the past and either absorbed those characters into their folds or made them disappear. The two big boys have crossed over into each others' worlds on a couple of occasions making for some interesting stories.

Since Marvel has more popular interesting characters and brings in more revenue, it would be logical to assume Marvel would be the one to buy out DC. Imagine Batman and Moon Knight, Wonder Woman & Hercules, Green Lantern and Nova, Darkseid & Thanos, Cobra and Hydra sharing story lines!

Maybe DC could put together an enticing IPO that would convince Disney to part with Marvel and the Dark Avengers HQ is taken over by the JLA; Hawkeye & Green Arrow hunt down Bullseye; Green Goblin & The Joker terrorize New Gotham!

It's crazy. Neither scenario will ever happen. But as a popular Marvel title asked over and over..."What If?" Could it work? Which would be the better merger, DC owning Marvel or Marvel absorbing DC? And you know somebody's gotta go. Waaaaay too many heroes for one company to manage. How would you go about getting rid of the excess? A super tournament? A stack of mini series to kill em off? A voter poll?

What characters (hero vs hero, hero vs villain, villain vs villain) would you like to see together in a 4 issue mini series where only one would survive?

I don't think any of this would work.

What would be sweet is if they made a monthly/quarterly Amalgam book.

DC has a "Ragnarok" philosophy to writing. Meaning they will some day reset and retcon characters on a massive scale.

While Marvel does use some form of Ragnarok and retcon they flourish in the What If department in taking their current characters and putting them in med-evil, noir or other universes.

Another major problem would be character limitations. DC does not really give their characters limits while Marvel focuses their stories on the limits of their characters.

It would be a disaster. Too many leaders on one team.

Amalgam would be ideal.

Speaking of Ragnarok, I'm reading "Disassembled" for the first time. Thor and company are about to go deep, Avengers mansion has been destroyed, Ant Man is dead and Stark was forced to resign as Sec of State. It's kinda cool to go back to a point in time and see how things get to where they are in the present. I stopped reading comics totally in the early 90s. Except for The Death Of Superman I hadn't touched a book until 2007 so all this shit is new to me. Fascinating!

Megs you and I both know the merger will probably never happen. Marvel needs DC and vice versa. Both of their movie divisions are cranking out product like there's no tomorrow. Stock shares in both companies are doing OK if not spectacular. It would probably kill the industry if the two merged.

BUT...if they did, one helluva downsizing would happen. Writers, pencilers, inkers on both sides would be scrambling for positions. Purely in aesthetic terms, this would force them to put out a better product. Strange, interesting, fantastic collaborations would form putting out books fans of both publishers would be salivating over.

From that perspective, I'm looking at (obviously imagining) the possibilities; of the new combination of heroes and the impossible villain matchups. It's not real, it's fantasy. I'm not in the business so to me the impossibility of fitting this twisted jigsaw puzzle together doesn't even enter into my thinking

I hear you. I'm just saying I seeing (in my third eye) more fail than stars and garter. I think what would happen is a lot of indie books would take center stage while either company reorganizes.

What team up would captivate?

Thor vs Darkseid (Not that new ghost shit either)
Tean Titans vs Young Avengers
Spider-man vs Joker
Green Goblin vs Lex Luthor...

Quoting Hank McCoy will score you plenty of points with me! And I agree that it would invigorate the industry with some of the spillage falling over into the Indies. That's the first thing popped into my head. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Nova vs Sentry
Ghost Rider vs Lobo
Elektra vs Vigilante
Batman vs Kingpin
Superman vs Dr Doom

Punisher: Maria...I miss you so much...*sobs for a few*
*the wall to his bathroom breaks down when streaks of Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet and Orange shine into his chest...
Punisher: Hot Salami I am going to fuck some shit up....

13 minutes later Earth is free of crime. Superheroes retire. Supervillans become honorable citizens or else...

Dr.Doom: Nah Lex I am done with all that shit.
Lex Luthor: Come on we can do this. We can take on Frank Castle.
Dr. Doom: Captain Fuckyou.
Lex Luthor: What?
Dr. Doom: That's his new code name...Captain Fuckyou.
Lex Luthor: When did this happen?
Dr. Doom: I think it was over 3 months ago when he made all Gorilla Grodd rape himself to death with his own banana.
Lex Luthor: Jesus...
Dr. Doom: Yeah...4 minutes in he was begging for Jesus too.
Lex Luthor: I am sure we can think of something.
Dr. Doom: Look man...I am packing up and heading to Reed's house I heard he has a copy of Modern Warfare 5. I don't want none of that motherfuckers heat. Did you see what he did to Brainiac.
Lex Luthor: You mean when he made Galactus eat his own foot?
Dr. Doom: No. I am talking about when he forced Brainiac into a Windows 3.1 PC and proceed to beat the PC apart with the dead corpses of Joker, Two-Face, Kingpin...He taxidermy their asses into a fucking bat.
Lex Luthor: Wow...You think Reed would mine me coming over?
Dr. Doom: He should be cool but I got to you warn that motherfucker cheats.
Lex Luthor: You know I use to be a super villain...I use to take on gods.
Dr. Doom: I hear you man...I hear you...*one tear*

I agree with most of what you said, but can you really blame them - except for the retconning part, when you got the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, SHAZAM, Martian Manhunter, and other powerhouses like that - in order to get them together it has to be something EPIC....

With that said here is another scenario for team up:

Iron Man, War-machine, Steel(John Henry Irons), Victor Stone Cyborg, and Hardware having to team up to stop Ultron, Shiva, The Cyborg Superman all ramped-up by the Phalanx technology controlled by Brainic  from overrunning the earth

I'd would have thrown Blue Marvel, Icon, Powergirl, Monica Rambeau, and Firestorm into the Annihilation War Saga:cool: or instead have Icon and Martian Manhunter involved in uncovering who was a Skrull agents in Secret Invasion....
