- On January 19, 2010, Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was assassinated in Dubai.
- Dubai police strongly suspect Israel's Mossad to have carried out the attack and has said that it may seek the arrest of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the murder of the Hamas leader.
- The head of the Dubai investigation, Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim, has Israel has “insulted” the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by allegedly carrying out the Jan. 19 assassination in Dubai, a trade, tourism and banking center is the second largest of the Emirates.
- Tamim has challenged Mossad chief Meir Dagan to “be a man” and admit that his agency killed Mabhouh, the senior figure in Hamas who had been wanted for helping kidnap two Israeli solders and was allegedly smuggling arms from Iran to Gaza.
<font size="3">The Passports</font size>
- In the wake of the assassination of Mabhouh in Dubai, Dubai police have identified more than two dozen passports they say were used by the hit team. About half belonged to Israeli residents with dual citizenship – all of whom who claimed that their identities had been stolen.
- Britain and Australia dispatched teams to Israel to investigate the use of their passports.
