The funny thing about the new Microsoft PC vs Mac commercials!

OK, back to why this is a bad advertisement for consumers. That PC, the HP HDX 16t is misleadingly poor in a number of areas:

1. About Macs, he says:
This [Unibody MacBook] is soooo sexy, but Macs to me are about aesthetics more than they are the computing power. I don't want to pay for the brand. I want to pay for the computer.
Tired stereotypes ... but I'll play. That PC is a big piece of plastic. Not sure how this is supposed to persuade me to buy a PC.

2. He wants a "portable" but ends up with a 16-inch display. At 7.06 lbs, that fits more into the "luggable" category.
Laptop Magazine said:
The HDX 16 is a pain to lug around.
Latop Logic said:
The HDX16 is not small, weighing in at 7.3 pounds and with dimensions of 14.9 x 10.0 x 1.7 inches. Still, it is small enough to fit into standard laptop bags without issue, and light enough that you can lift it and move it around if you need to, although you won’t want to much.

3. That 16 inch display has about the same resolution (1366x768) as a 13-inch MacBook (1280x800). You can get a 12-inch Lenovo Thinkpad with this resolution screen. Or a Pocket sized Sony P with better resolution. Those extra inches are just fluff.
For another $175 he could upgrade to a true 1080P HD screen. It would be a no-brainer to do so - except it wouldn't meet the cost requirements.

4. "Battery": The standard 6 cell battery is less than mediocre. It is, again, rated at under three hours. That is low for a $1000 laptop. Again, Laptop Magazine said:
The six-cell battery lasted 1 hour and 59 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test (continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi). That’s about an hour and a half short for a mainstream notebook.

5. Video card? A very solid 512 mb NVIDIA GForce M GT. That's the same card as Apple's MacBook Pro. Except the HP's 1366x768 screen hardly needs it. That is also why the battery dies so quickly. This is an example of an over-specced hardware.

6. Good news! It has a BluRay ROM. Bad news: Your screen is too small to support BluRay resolution, without the $175 upgrade (again, no brainer).
This is, again, Microsoft misleading the public about a machine that has some good specs but falls way short on things that people need everyday. Apple's computers aren't perfect, but you absolutely know that they've been built to perform well all around.
At the beginning, this guy said he wanted "Portability, Battery and Power".
He got a 16-inch laptop that isn't considered very portable to say the least. It has the same processor as an entry level MacBook. The battery is substandard to other laptops in its class. He got none of what he wanted.
Congratulations G. You are a PC.
If you want a thinner, faster PC with a better battery and screen for less, Amazon has a Sony Vaio that I've heard very good things about. It also has Vista Premium instead of Home and looks much better.

Hollar at me when you can tweak out, mutil task, and cusomize a MAC!

What can you customize on a PC notebook/laptop that you can't on a Mac? On a Mac Pro (desktop)? Your point about customize may be tru on the all in one design of the iMac, but thats about it.

...as far as muti-task... makes me think this is an April fools joke?

Their has been a PC vs Mac competition going for decades.

The Mac has failed miserably at gaining ground on the PC.

Microsoft has been the only relevent force in the PC world.

The Mac isn't really worth mentioning. The ratio is like the number of homes receiving electricity from the utility company vs homes generating electricity from a solar system and wind turbines.

Mac was at 5% in 1985, 1995, 2005 and will be in the same role in 2015. Live with it. This Xmas, more microsoft supported netbooks will be bought that Mac books.

I will never take investment advice from Divine. He is sound in many areas but not when it comes to the Mac vs Microsoft thing.

Hope he doesn't also think the PS3 sales will come to rival the Wii.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Do yourself a favor and go check the market share numbers for the past 2 years... that is why Microsoft is making anti-Mac commercials.... because their mrket share has almost doubled.

Mac enjoys a "premium brand" status while Microsoft only has its logo.

Doubled because of what? "i" product line and the "i" product line ONLY. Nothing to do with Mac computers or the Mac operating system :smh: They still don't compare to what Microsoft is worth.

Please stop with the dumb shit

think about what youre saying for a second... Mr. iBobby

Apple enjoys a premium brand while Microsoft just has a logo. When you enjoy premium brand status, regardless if its true or deserved, people tend to aspire to get that brand...

Thank you both for your responses. I checked out the top end Alienware notebook with the 1 TB and that shit runs for a little over $4,000! That smart bay is a cool concept to store more shit in.

Yeah, their designs are kinda weak and not very sleek at all, but I compared the Voodoo Envy 133 to the Area 51 without the crazy HD space and a few other option specs and it was considerably cheaper. Still around $2,000 though.

However, the Voodoo Envy is what I would say a PC laptop should be. Is very sleek, comes with some power, and has a shit load of options for upgrades. But like yall said, do the upgrades yourself and save money.

I swear, one of these days I'm making my own "Hackintosh". That shit is going to be laid out.:yes:

Oh and E.N.S., I used to be a big AMD Athlon fan, but that shit hurt me when I caught a crazy virus and it crippled my computer. Funny thing was that I used to update my software like crazy and I loved how fast my processor was, but I decided to try Apple and have been satisfied ever since.

But like I said, when I get an opportunity I'm gonna build my own shit that's gonna be off the chain...
Yeah, that Alienware setup is a bit overkill, but will do anything you throw at it. I don't think I really would be ok, doing gaming day to day on a laptop, but thats just me. And for the price I keep thinking how much more I could do to my build on a desktop, but that 1 TB is a sweet spot. Hell, its in a RAID config, so I can understand the price, but still don't like it(price)..lol!

Yeah, the Voodoo Envy is very nice. I mean Carbon Fiber body, very smooth body, light, boxy design. You also pay for that premium as well. Basic price with SSD will begin at $2,699. Man, I still wish that Alienware & Voodoo, didn't have to get absorbed by Dell & HP to survive. They had some of the best and unique builds a shopper could find. Their designs were so custom, but also paid a high price if you wanted one custom for you. Alienware, Falcon Northwest, & Voodoo, were the leaders in design builds, massive cooling, & filled to the gills laptops & PCs, that the big companies would get their ideas from. Yeah, also check out Falcon Northwest, I don't think they got absorbed by a bigger outfit yet. I believe that both Alienware & Voodoo, both got limited on their designs due to getting bought out by Dell & HP. So in a sense, they both "sold out", but I'm happy for the owners, cause they actually made a good deal of money off of it and still somewhat run the companies.

I'm still an AMD fan, was with them, when they were nothing, stuck with them on the throne, and sticking with them as they are in their lows. But they got a lot of good stuff under their sleeves. I got faith in them. My new build will be on the Dragon Platform.

ORIGINAL POST: FAILED!!

Anyone besides me find it funny that Microsoft is not the winner in this battle of commercials.. they are a software company and they are pumping up HP vs Mac, not Microsoft vs Mac. But you Windoze freaks can't even see that...

I don't know what's worse. When companies have these dumb ad-wars or when the dumb ass sheep. . . i mean stans. . . . i mean consumers jump in on it. Use whatever you like and keep it moving. Acting like this is a battle royale and the loser is banished from production. :smh:

Its interesting that you posted that article. While you fixated on "fastest growth" you didn't look at the absolute number. Apple's market share was 8.5% while HP was in first place with a whopping 31.9% share. that means Apple would have to triple their market share to reach HP. Won't happen.

Additionally while the article touts Apple's growth which is a respectable 38% I also noticed that you didn't mention that while still staying #1 HP also managed to show an 11% growth over the same time period. So its not like Apple is gaining on some stagnant brand.

Growth is easy to talk about but it can't be looked at in a vacuum.

Guru Sees Another Failure

"For one thing, most shoppers now know that by the time they add in all the built-in Mac components to a PC, the costs are close. Macs are also retained longer and replaced less often than PCs. And then there's the reliability and repair cost issues," Frankel said. "Another failure, big time, for Microsoft."

That is a stupid comment, from a moron that is a "brand guru", wtf? First off, the same components in a pc laptop, would be CHEAPER, then if on a mac, 3 year old would know that. Next, Apple charges for repair/hardware upgrades, etc, and on average, they cost 24% more then a regular pc laptop according to cnet.com. The biggest gripe that apple fanboys have with a pc is security, yet apple has had plenty of security issues from the os to the new browser. They claim it's the best for a graphics suite, people that work in illustration, photography, etc.... Yet no apple fanboy mentions, that Photoshop CS4 is 64bit enabled ONLY on Windows, not on OS/X.... So wouldn't that mean that for the graphics people, it would make MORE sense to run your suite on a pc? I think it would....

Apple hardware is not superior, BTW. The motherboards are made by ASUS, processors are Intel, hard drives are either Western Digitals or Seagates, and their famed Cinema Monitor, its made by LG. Hmm, specs sound like just about every other HP computer out there.

Ahh.. someone is finally starting to get it. So its the software (The OS), like ive said all along! And get this.. Microsoft is a software company, yet they refuse to market their software in their commercials and refuse to put Windows up against OS X. They instead, market the hardware from other companies, like HP.. Keep at it.. you will soon see the light and the failure of their commercials. I wonder what would happen if Apple decided to allow their OS to be sold on HP, Dell, Compaq computers....

Apple would go out of business.

unfortunately, it can't happen like that the OSX is Unix based and can't be reliably placed by a user onto a home computer. That is the whole premise behind Windows and why is was even made in the first place. Mac OS was the first graphical operating system for personal computers but it had to be installed at the factory. Windows was safe to be installed and also customizable

Actually Divine, Darkman is quite correct IMHO, why I state this is Microsoft is a Software company as you've been stating however Apple 'creates' their own hardware (I use create figuratively), if I'm not mistaken all advertisements must contain a level of TRUTH, Microsoft cannot say we make PCS when what they do is create Software, their company affiliations HP,Dell, Acer etc. create them, if they were to show a commercial with hardware sporting a Windows logo as though they created computers they will be liable to be sued, with that being stated though the truth be told that Apple overcharges for its machines considerably, and even though their 'Service Pack Update OS' is sold pretty cheap the mark up on the hardware is exorbitant, now if they ever decide to compete by dropping their prices to 'common' PC prices their user base will increase considerably owing to people who like the overall 'beauty' of the device, but if that ever happens expect that ultra safe Operating System to be in serious jeopardy, if I can recall there was a recent survey whereby they tested Win 7 to the Latest Mac OS, the Windows 7 system was more up to date to deal with the latest security threats in its security definitions while the Mac was still running on outdated definitions, the fact that the Steve Jobs mob feel safe makes them complacent, if the Mac had more considerable retail success then this story would be completely different, owing to them being targeted more and returning to the topic of the commercial to me the commercial does what it states, it shows everyday people interacting with their computers, what they do with them, and the price range that it caters too, what does the Apple commercial do? Let me see insult people by 'Shouting' from the top of the mountain that the 'PC' is inferior (yet they use the same hardware), laying claims to old outdated facts and generally malign peoples' ignorance by stating its the safest operating system when in fact Microsoft has the largest customer base and is very stable once you're not installing malware/spyware and corrupted virus riddled software.
