Steward: Cotto To Get Revenge on Margarito, Pacquiao

By Mark Vester

Trainer Emanuel Steward believes that WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will stop Ricardo Mayorga on March 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and then move on to avenge his two defeats to Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao. If Cotto beats Mayorga, a rematch with Margarito has already been scheduled for June. A rematch with Pacquiao is possible for the fall but far from a set option. Margarito stopped Cotto in eleven rounds in 2008, while Pacquiao knocked Cotto out in twelve rounds in 2009.

"I've always praised Miguel's boxing skills, which he seemed to neglect in recent years. But now that we've picked back up on those skills, his development has been phenomenal," said Steward told Puerto Rican paper Primera Hora.

"I have no doubt that the way Cotto fought [Yuri Foreman in June 2009], he will knock Mayorga out with a hook to the body. Then he should be able to repeat that feat by knocking out Margarito and then Manny Pacquiao, to avenge those two setbacks."

Mayorga hates body shots, Tito hurt him badly whenever he hit him to the body, so I can see that. Stop Margarito? More than likely as he's not the same fighter anymore without his plaster wraps and two savage beatings in his last 3 fights. Could Cotto have given Pacquiao a better fight if he had more boxing IQ? Definitely, but I don't ever see him beating Pacman. Pac's just too fast, but Cotto could have offset that shit by tying him up and hitting his body which he never did, but I will bet that Mosley will do that shit. Cotto fought 3 shitty fights in a row and had his good moments in all of them, he beat Margarito thoroughly for 5 or 6 rounds but made horrible mistakes even while doing it. He could have boxed Clottey much better but his mechanics were a mess. And he gave Pac 2 good rounds before he fell apart and started to go to war. He'll give much better showings in these next 3 fights with Steward in his corner and he'll win 2 of them, losing one to Pac, if that fight happens. I heard Cotto wants to fight Floyd in the fall though. That ain't happening.

My main problem with all of this is why isn't he gearing up for Martinez. He moved up to restart his career but he is looking backwards at a cheater and a motherfucker that he probably has no chance at beating.... or maybe both cheaters.

In my mind I would have thought that the game plan was Angulo and Martinez.... Shit he could have stayed at welter if that was the case. The only other reason he would have had to move up was if he couldn't make weight but that makes no sense cause why would he have accepted a catch weight in the Pac fight.

This whole shit is stupid and if the majority of MMA wasn't men laying on each other..... I might just say fuck it.
