Unfortunately, because there are so many black faces pushing against reparations, it will never happen, or at least like it should.
The Jews, the Native Americans, the Chinese, the Japanese, etc were all in concert when the petitioned for their reparations. We are just too divided with too many people willing to sabotage the movement.

Somebody ought to slit that coons throat. And this asshole is just gleeful about undermining black folks. The look on his face says it all.
Reparations should be an attempt to right the wrongs and help the entire group do better. Providing a monetary payout will be temporary and only benefit the current generation/ recipients. That's selfish. Why does one generation deserve reparations and not another? Another problem that will occur is who qualifies? How far removed can a person be?What would reparations look like for you?
I agree with all of this and the way its laid out. But the cherry on top and what would truly address the hundreds of years of mistreatment would be and exemption from ALL taxes for people that can trace their ancestry back to slavery. This country should project this exemption into the future the same number of years in the past black people have suffered. I think that's the late 1600s. So black people should not be paying income tax (state and federal) property tax, sales tax, gas tax, estate tax, school tax or even personal property tax until around the year 2500. Doing this instead of lump sum payouts would insure multiple generations benefit.Reparations should be an attempt to right the wrongs and help the entire group do better. Education and land ownership is directly correlated to wealth.
1. For 100 years, free education and training opportunities with progressive success measures as a stipulation. Meaning, if you go to school, you must be on track to graduate while passing your courses. You can't flunk out, then say I want to do something else. Nope, get it right the first time. Education is not just college. Trades and other skills are included. Arts and humanities education will not qualify.
2. Black folk should have an opportunity to acquire, free of cost, parcels of land owned by the US. Many of which will be rural. Those who acquire the land must live on the land or develop the land within x amount of years. Low to no interest loans and grants should be made available for developing the land. There should be education and training available to assist with all aspects of this.
3. Healthcare should be provided for those who receive reparations which must include mental health and therapy. A healthy mind and body is our most valuable asset.
I think tax exemptions are good, but they should not be all-inclusive. Why? What happens if a community becomes extremely populated with black folks or we want to create our separate communities in secluded areas of certain states? There will be no money to support the infrastructure, schools, libraries, roads, police, fire department, etc.I agree with all of this and the way its laid out. Additionally, I can imagine all the tax fraud that will begin to exist. A black person could own a business and house white and Asian money and receive a commission that is half of what the tax would have been. This would lead to less money for public services.
We are still U.S. citizens. We are America. We must be willing to sustain the American way of life for reparations to mean anything. Owning land and wealth in a weak and dismantled economy is worthless.
I hear what you are saying, but we have to deal in current and past precedence. We see what's happening on Texas regarding an infrastructure without tax support. We see it in many underperforming communities as well. Tax dollars support the community and will ultimately determine the quality of life. Reparations with a low quality of life is not worth it.You're right and it's definitely a heavy lift but a country that can put people on the moon and machines on Mars can find a way to thread the reparations needle. These are the kind of problems academics and social leaders are paid to tackle. Just as a vacant tax base would be bad for black communities, free parcels of useless land would be just as bad. The Native Americans can attest to that. 84% of Nevada is federal land. Imagine being handed some of that with the expectation that you build a community. Even grants and loans won't be enough to bring the kind of resources that would make a lot of these places livable. I think as an American community the land grants and set asides need to be in places with reasonable infrastructure.

Additionally, the Native American reference is quite different than this scenario. Native Americans were given land as a group. This also made it easier for reparations to be granted. I imagine if they had argued for individuals to get land, that would have been a nonstarter.
Lastly, offering land near infrastructure is good in theory. But, then it becomes, who gets the "prime" real estate? Maybe the land could be based upon value. For instance, everyone is given a $250K land/ property voucher. Therefore, it can be used wherever and the everyone initially has the same. Of course the reality is, $250K in New York is not the same as $250K in Alabama. Nonetheless, the value is still the same.
