I'm not quite sure why I'm writing this. I guess just to warn you. DO NOT TAKE A WOMAN TO THIS MOVIE; SHE WILL PROBABLY NOT LIKE IT.
This is a testosterone driven movie. Its pretty much The Running Man meets Survivor. 10 prisoners who were sentenced to death are put on an island and have to kill each other before explosive legbands go off. One survivor only. You KNOW Steve Austin isn't really an actor. Given that, he wasn't bad. There were a couple of things that bugged me: The inconsistent character of the African sista, the government not being able to track the internet broadcast...shit like that.
This movie is VIOLENT. Now as fellas, we have no problems with this. Women on the other hand, were disgusted. As I was leaving, thats all I heard from females in the audience. "That was too violent" "They didn't need to show all that" and so on.
There is some eye candy in the flick. Both of the female "killers" must have had side jobs as models because they were both hot as fuck. (Emelia Burns and Dasi Ruz - you WILL see them again) Even the blonde chick that was in "Boogeyman" who played the girlfriend of the guy behind it all was hot. (Victoria "Tory" Musset)
We are damn close to this premise happening for real one day. This particular angle isn't that feasible but a variation of it could be. Hardcore Reality and everyone's hunger for it in its most extreme forms is growing and they TRIED to point that out in this movie. Had they have ended the movie with that message it would have been fine but this flick beats itself up with its own sensationalism by kicking in with a little more violence at the very end. Its an okay movie if you have no expectations. I think this would satisfy the big "Survivor" show fans because its what people really want to see but their morals and conscious keep those desires supressed. Its kind of a sick flick. Since I'm not much of a fan of reality television (outside of America's Next Top Model), I didn't think much of it. Wrestling fans will love seeing Steve Austin get down; reality television fans will finally get that extreme survivor flick and fans of well written scripts with good acting will once again be disappointed. The story is simple and the acting is crude..but the violence is off da chain! :D
Matinee this mutha fucka or skip it altogether if you don't like Survivor or wrestling.

this was originally supposed to be a film adaptation of the game Manhunt till Rockstar backed out at the last minute..story ended up having to be changed as a result

I just read on Yahoo! Movies that the fight scenes are shot in shaky cam style. I hate that shit! You can never see what's happening when the camera is moving all around wildly during a fight. Might have to wait for a bootleg on this one. :hmm:

They were flirting with this idea in real life (not as violent of course). They were considering a concept where they put a bunch of MMA fighters on an island "Survivor" style and have them fight it out to the last fighter while trying to survive at the same time. I guess there were WAY too many ways for some shit like that to go hooribly wrong and they softened up the idea.
