I'm looking to buy one. I want an indoor and outdoor dog that knows that my house is his domain and that I and my girl are the King and Queen and he should give his life for it if the occasion calls.

Are they pretty good dogs?

A friend owned one and yes they are very family friendly but can be not so friendly at least my mans dog was if he doesnt know you. I played with his dog as a puppy once and as it got older i was the only one that they can let the dog out in the house for, every other person he would have to be caged. His dog was trained so walking him wasnt a problem but you have to feed it correctly being as though they can grow to be massive dogs.

Dobermann Pinschers fit the brief you have described. My parents used to breed them, fantastic family dogs and very aware of their duties naturally will definitely put themselves between you and a would be attacker. When my Mum used to walk them they might be out of sight in the bushes but if a jogger approached her they would immediately come back to her side without being called and often escort the jogger until they were what they deemed as a safe distance away from my Mum. They have no road sense though, if they get loose near a road they will run into it not acknowledging the danger. In the UK we are no longer allowed to dock the tails and were never allowed to clip the ears but I believe it is still done in the US giving them "that look". Everything Richard Pryor said about them is true, they will let people in but not let them back out, we had a few family members and friends get nipped or trapped against a wall if they tried to let themselves out "to grab something from the car."

Anyone buying a dog of that size for indoor living is a fool unless you own a mansion.... my downstairs tenants snuck one up on me, never told me they had one till two weeks after moving in and they brought him to the house....... big goofy ass Scooby Doo....over 6' tall on it's hind legs... it would shit corn cob sized shit, urine stunk like hell and it would pee like a race horse... neighbors was complaining like crazy.... but since you're an attention whoring fool.... I'd expect you to get one.... I would expect no less from you

Their YouTube channel has a wealth of knowledge on the breed.

They feed their dogs mostly raw organic diet.

Any dog not properly trained or cared for can end up being crazy & unstable..lol Pits aren't that bad, I've seen folks with Mastiffs damn near get dragged down the street because the dog isn't trained & wants to go after something..lol If a large breed dog wants to go after you that boot of yours ain't going to stop it..lol
