The difference between Canada and the middle east though is that the US has to pay market value for our oil. If they try to take it by force not only it would destroy relations with their biggest trading partner and cripple several native industries. It would also strain things further with European allies. Britian, Holland and France somehow haven't forgotten how quickly we jumped in to help them during the first and second world wars.
