The 1970s (pronounced "nineteen-seventies", commonly abbreviated as the "Seventies") was a decade of the Gregorian calendar that began on January 1, 1970, and ended on December 31, 1979. In the 21st century, historians have increasingly portrayed the 1970s as a "pivot of change" in world history, focusing especially on the economic upheavals that followed the end of the postwar economic boom.[2] In the Western world, social progressive values that began in the 1960s, such as increasing political awareness and economic liberty of women, continued to grow. Novelist Tom Wolfe coined the term "'Me' decade" in his essay "The 'Me' Decade and the Third Great Awakening", published by New York Magazine in August 1976 referring to the 1970s. The term describes a general new attitude of Americans towards atomizedindividualism and away from communitarianism, in clear contrast with the 1960s.

The 1980s (pronounced "nineteen-eighties", commonly shortened as the "'80s", pronounced "eighties") was a decade of the Gregorian calendar that began on January 1, 1980, and ended on December 31, 1989.
The decade saw great socioeconomic change due to advances in technology and a worldwide move away from planned economies and towards laissez-faire capitalism.

The 80's was my breakthrough decade... Started fucking pussy, graduated from high school then college, owned my first car, started to earn my own money, began travelling the world... Basically the 80's when I gained my independence and became a free man. That's the most memorable time of my life.

Not forgetting that the best music (soul, electronic and R&B) was made in the 80's.

Thought this was about retro porn smh... I'm going with 70s. Coming outta 60s and free love and shit. I was born in 82 but it looked like older folks had more fun. 80s was start of HIV and crack and all the devastation they both wrought. 70s seem like a drug fueled party with no condoms

The 70's!!!
During that decade we saw sum kat landing spaceships in coliseums and a few mins after landing, the band jammed their asses off and had the crowd knee deep in music.. Then we saw a kat pop on the scene wearing star sunglasses and plucking a star shaped bass, tearing the joint apart... It gets better, atl jumped on the scene singing sum Insane shit and caught everyone off quard.. Then people started wearing dreadlocks were jammin thru the whole decade on sum root, rock, reggae vibe that caught us that smoke weed off guard. It was that time I figured out, weed aint goin hurt nobody!!. Oh yeah cant forget the elements were opening our eyes to gratitude for sum strange reason.. Outta da blue sum kat started funkin for jamica that set the scene on fire.. During that decade the raydio was the way you heard good jams.. So when you hear a song you would go for it and then blast off to the next phase.. The 70's there wasnt a war going on, why we cant be friends was kinda the motto.. The jams were hitting so hard, sum couldnt handle let.. I met this nice lady in the 70's and everytime I saw her she was tellin me something good, too bad she shuffled off to hollywood to try music.. During that decade there was a message in the music, to wake up everybody and get people movin!!

Im a 70's baby but the 80's raised me...i cant decide

Tough choice. Can't really decide between the two. Probably a slight edge to the 80s just because of the technology boost. Both were great decades in a million different ways. The 90s and beyond other than technology were trying to recapture the essence of those two decades on many different levels. Definitely not the 50s or 60s. I personally grew up in the 70s and 80s. Graduated high school in 1984.

70s and it ain’t even close. Music, style, culture.

I was definitely born in the wrong decade.

80s was dope as shit though.

Bruh, you had to be there to really get the vibe!! I arrived on this earth in 64 and came of age during the mid 70's and early 80's.. Seeing Bootsy Collins and George Clinton( his groups were around for sum time) and Cameo come onto the scene, was unbelievable!! I remember as a 11yr old coming out the barber shop and seeing a large crowd in front of the record store. And George Clinton and Parliament coming out the shop, that was just after the release of Mothership Connection!! It was like these kats just came from another planet!! I wanted to go to that concert, but moms wasnt ready for her son being exposed to that.. It was at that moment, my love for music intensified!! Anyway, looking back on it, it feels like yesterday!!

1960's.

particularly pre-1964 when malcolm x was still alive.

the potential, progressive future, outlook and RESPECT for all black people post-1964 (february 22nd) became an unforgiving and regretful impossibility.
