Billboard reports that Jennifer Lopez has announced she will not return to American Idol for the show's 12th season.
She made the decision on Ryan Seacrest's radio show this morning. This follows Steven Tyler's exit from the show yesterday. Several musicians, including Mariah Carey and Adam Lambert, have all been rumored as possible replacements. Both Tyler and Lopez have been with the show since 2010.
Lopez said: "When I signed on to 'Idol' I signed on to one year, and I wound up doing two years because I just fell so in love with the show and everybody there. I felt like for six months it's fine, but then to go back and do it again I was like 'Oh God!' … You know, I have the movies, my music and my this and my that. And it all kind of worked together for a while but it just gets more complicated. You know, and as the kids get bigger, it just started feeling like it was a lot, and something had to give. Something has to give. And that's where I am right now. I honestly feel that the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do that I've put kind of on hold because I love 'Idol' so much."
Seacrest then said to Lopez: "You're breaking up with me… I wanna say that I'm sad as the host of the show. Sad as your friend."
This morning, Seacrest tweeted: "Just confirmed w/ @JLo she's made up her mind...will leave idol.
gonna miss her.. Along with the tweet was a link to the audio interview with Lopez.
