Thank You BGOL for Banning the N-Word

The "N-word". Let's say we stop using Nigga. We'll just find a word to associate nigga with. Some already say Ninja-we know it means nigga. Nig and Negro is another example. Even saying the "N-words" we know what you're talking about. It's like trying to censor bad words in a movie that's being shown on regular cable TV, even though you bleep it out you still can feel in the blanks. Personally, l am not going to stop using the word but l do watch who l say it around and where l say it.

Mookie Blaylock has a point

I have come to terms with the idea that you can't save the world but I have adopted the philosophy that you can change yourself. But if you really think about it if everyone changed themselves the world would inadvertently be changed

I am for stopping the N-word and I will make that my own personal goal. I hope others here might do the same.

True to form brotha. How you gonna tell someone to do something you can't do??

I've never thought nigga(er) meant black. I call everyone nigga. Mostly white people. For real! I was talking to a white gentlemen and I told him that Imus was a crazy nigga!

As soon as all the rappers disown the word, it'll happen.
Are you serious?

Rappers are the ones who promoted the word?

In the word of James Baldwin "you must be one of those brand new niqqas"

We should also ban the word "boy" from our vocabulary

White people have been using that word forever now in a derogatory fashion towards black men

So from now on you should stop referring to your best friend as your "boy" :smh:

Instead refer to them as "my significant other, but not in a sexual way, that's just gay"

We need to have a conference with white people so they can make a list of all the words we shouldn't use anymore so they can finally end this racism thing once and for all

Yeah, we need to get rid of dawg too..

Just say homey, ace or imagine this.... friend..

I was going to leave this alone, but I can't. This shit is stupid.
The key to understanding lies in accepting the fact that no race or group on this planet has a word that is as negatively received, yet used as commonly as the word '******'. The word '******' can inspire the most mild-mannered black man or woman to throw the first blow in an exchange that can all too easily in unprecedented violence. Yet, the same word used by another black man carries no negativity.

Look closely, it's not who uses it.
It's not how it is used.
The big deal is about how it makes you feel when someone uses it and you have no verbal comeback.
And let's be for real, if you could erase the word from existence and memory, and you could take an innocent word with no negative connotation whatsoever, and begin to shape it into a slur that would quickly become the same double-edged sword the word nigga is today.

The problem aint the word,
The problem aint the white man.
The problem is that in the land of free speech, motherfuckers still getting their feelings hurt cause somebody said something bad about them.
Grow up, bitches.
I don't care if it's the word ******, retard, kyke, dyke, fag, chink, whatever.
Since we were kids, all 6 billion of us have been calling each other names.

It's funny how motherfuckers are grown now and still telling the teacher to 'make Johnny stop saying that word'.

Fuck Johnny, fuck the teacher, fuck the media.

The benefit of free speech is that you can say whatever you want.
The cost of free speech is that you might hear something you dont like.
Pull your panties up, you sensitive bitches.

And for the record, those were some nappy headed hoes.

There is nothing wrong with the N word. The problem is with certain people that happen to use it. If you took the word away, these people and their feelings would still be there.

One of the things that white liberals like yourself are too stupid to understand is that this is not, and never has been, a free speech issue. There are certain code words (******, nappy-headed, etc.) that simply can't be taken out of their historical context. Nobody is arguing that Don Imus didn't have the "right" to say what he said. What people are saying (and rightly so) is that Don Imus is a certified bigot and there should have been consequences for his actions.

Of course, I can't blame you for trying to make it a free speech issue because that allows you to safely assume the moral high ground while you're ensconced in white privilege. Awfully convenient. You and people like you are the reason why white liberals are universally known as such clueless hypocrites.

Listen you dumb, ignorant bitch!!! If tookie really is your ''uncle'' then your a dumber bitch than i thought. Wasn't your ''uncle'' advocating non-violence and BLACK unity before he died???? Meanwhile your out here talking up and advocating violence and BLACK dis-unity, GTFOH BITCH!!!

If you feel comfortable saying it or calling someone that around white folks then you use it to your hearts content, simply just do what you feel is right, I fall victim to it way too often though.

Bitch please. Aside from the fact that you and old boy seem to think that everyone who can spell must be white, I applaud you for your rousing little romp across the keyboard. Do me a favor.

Rest your fingers.

Whether or not certain terms can be taken out of their historical context is a matter of opinion, and in my opinion I mostly agree with you on that. Problem is, what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

My point was that it is a word.
We assign it's meaning when we speak it.
We interpret it's meaning when we hear.
It's power and scope are not packaged nor predetermined.
To attack the word based on the feelings it represents when spoken, or the feelings generated when heard is what is ignorant.
To try and tell me or anyone else what words I should use based on how sensitive and insecure those words make you feel? Now that's self-righteous.

And maybe Don Imus shouldn't have said 'nappy-headed hoes',
but it's ok to say dumb shit and throw around insults as long as somebody finds it funny, right?

Point is, banning the word is like killing the messenger.

If you can't see beyond that, try using one hand to move the ballsack to one side while you read the monitor.

I stopped using the word a couple years ago when I engage in conversation....but still use it and every other profanity when I rap....I'm not an advocate of banning words....that shit is stupid...in a country that prides itself on freedoms and rights, this new course of action to go after rappers and ban n***a is a dangerous road to tread....that shit is censorship....and should be heavily frowned upon....

I think the question should be: why do whites have such a desire to say n***a when they know damn well they shouldn't....it strikes me as being odd....seems that they're envious that there's a word in the English langauge they can't use without bein fucked up for....the arguement these clowns are saying is that why is it okay for Blacks to refer to each other as n***a, and they (whites) can't even breathe it....and I would like to know why would they even feel the need to have to say it.....their arguement isn't even close to being valid but nobody is pulling these fuckers out on the carpet about it....and now Sharpton and Jackson are running around targeting the wrong issue....fuck rappers and music....go after motherfuckers that can actually do shit....like the school system and the fact that less money per student is spent on minorities...rappers and the "n" word are so far off the boat.....fucking clowns

If you're not white then you're either a rattle-brained "minority" or an ignorant, self-righteous uncle tom.

I assumed - not because of your grammar, spelling or argumentation (and don't pat yourself on the back too vigorously, the shit wasn't very good) that I would not have to belabor the fact that this isn't a free speech issue on a black man. I ASSUMED that any black person over the age of ten might intuitively understand that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the word "******," in THIS country, to be used 1) outside of its historical context and 2) ironically or casually by whites.

Language is important. Let's not try to pretend that we can divorce a word from it's meaning simply because we find it convenient to do so. Don Imus knows that. Those who are defending him know that. White Americans, in general, know that. Apparently, the only person who doesn't recognize that is you.

If you want to experiment with free word association, try going to your job and shouting out words like "******" or "dyke" or "gook" and see what happens. Better yet, walk into a police station and call everyone you see a fucking pig. As they're arresting your stupid ass, try explaining to them that they aren't reacting to your words, rather, their own insecurity regarding those words. Tell them that by arresting you they're actually killing the messenger.

Words have meaning, genius. If you can't see that, you're head's not so much wrapped up in the first amendment as it is stuck up your ass.

oh, i see, you're one of those people who like to argue when you don't even have a point.

Some how you've gone from almost arguing about the same thing, to supporting my argument, to spouting some horribly moot and inaccurate observations on the nature of language. I am going to assume that your attempt to connect the unrelated points in your replies stems from some sort of ADD/ADHD problem you're working thru.

I wish you the best of luck with that.

In addition, please understand that language itself is adaptive. Meaning that words find their meaning in the way that they are used. "Historical context" as you use it, is merely a reference to the most common or longest running interpretation. The greater part of the English language is an amalgam of words and terms taken from other languages. Most of these words have little or no resemblance in meaning to the word of their origin.

Case in point:

bitch (in origin)= female of the canine species

bitch (circa 1400 AD)=a derogatory term for a woman, taken to mean that she is malicious, spiteful, domineering, intrusive, or unpleasant.

bitch (1800-1900)= bitch is a lower-hierarchy prisoner, typically physically weak or vulnerable, who is dominated by more senior prisoners and forced to adopt a servile role. According to convention, these inmates are used as sexual slaves or traded as personal property.

bitch (2007)= see ill paragraph

oh, shit... you were right. Even though the definition has been altered , ( only dog breeders refer to dogs as bitches anymore), proving my point, i guess the root meaning of the word still remains.

Well, never let it be said that I can't admit when I'm wrong.
Thanks for straightening me out, bitch.
