Tesla Model 3 Revealed

By the way, according to Caranddriver.com, with both cars in top gear, the Tesla does 30-50 in 1.3 seconds and 50-70 in 1.8 seconds. The M6 took 5.6 and 7.3 seconds...

The standing quarter mile in 11.1 seconds at 121 mph, the M6 12.4 at 124 mph.
That's fucking crazy

2015 M3 1/4 in 12.3 at 116 mph. 30-50 and 50-70 6.3 and 4.9 seconds. The Tesla is still pulling away from the BMW M3 at the quarter mile.

BMW fanboys are the worst. A BMW isn't even a proper sports car. It's a sedan that goes fast.

I see yours too though.

But that's the tax credit, the environmental angle, and the coolness factor. Together those give it a powerful edge.
You're forgetting that he said to only put $12 of gas in the car. How far will that get him? $12 isn't 1/2 a tank, not with premium fuel.

That's true.

But I know that he meant that the difference would be negligible to the m3 crowd. Less so when you factor in that 93 for sure though.

You're right, Hillary Clinton (moving goal posts). Most races START at 60-70 mph because we all want to go to jail...

I'm just speaking to how the cars perform but I'm sure you already knew that. Or at least I hope so....

Again, this is the same situation as I explained in my previous post. If the M6 is in top gear, it can't generate comparable torque! Whereas, the Tesla can due to electric motors. Put the M6 in 2nd and 3rd gear and then see the results. Completely different results.

Regardless, I like what Teslsa is doing and not taking anything away from the cars. Just putting some perspective on these numbers.

I knew the difference in cars within my argument when I posted it (the life of a lawyer); however, are you suggesting that the M6 or M3 would be quicker in 2nd or 3rd gear than the Tesla numbers I posted? I would have to find some documentation.

30-50 in under 1 second? Not likely.

It already does...
they havent announced specs on anything but the base model 3 so far to my knowledge.
Electric cars can generate 100% of their torque immediately. Whereas, an internal combustion motor needs to build that torque through the rev range. So, yes...the high performance Model 3 will beat an M3 off the line but as speeds increase....the M3 will reel it in and pass it by.

Start that same race from around 60 - 70 mph and it's curtains for the Tesla.

If we're talking about street racing or just moving around town...

I'd probably rather have the car that kills damn near everything on the street from 0-100 than the car that shows its heart at 80mph+.

I found a website that said 1.8 seconds for the M3 in 2nd gear. Keep trying though.

No.

What I am suggesting is that comparing an M6 in its top gear and then comparing it's acceleration numbers to the Tesla isn't an apples to apples comparison due to it's completely different drive trains. You have to put an internal combustion motor in the correct corresponding gear to make a true and accurate comparison.

auto industry - audi, bmw, lexus, acura, infiniti benz & anybody trying to eat in the $30 - $50k range basically
big oil
other ev's

I think the German big 3 will always eat their rep is solidified.. Honda and Toyota as well now for everyone else it's a wrap

You gonna see a lot of model 3s in the hood

The bmw 335i has been americas best selling premium vehicle almost since it came out i think.
This car is taking that crown in it's first year easily...

this little tesla is gonna be everywhere like altimas & accords used to be...

and think about all the people who wanted the model s but were priced out of the high performance model so sat out? The high end model for this one will probably top out at $55k and give cats that performance they wanted in the Model S.

i think it's game over... and thats a good thing cuz its time we get off that oil.

Gas isn't going to stay cheap forever. If the fossil fuel industry didn't think Tesla to be a problem, the Koch brothers and their peers would not be investing millions of dollars to try to kill the electric car again, through legislation and other means.

True but Elon Musk got more money than the Cock Brothers.. They can't stop that Tesla movement.. The model 3 is a game changer literally

I still want the Model S P85, the only problem is the long term ownership of the car.. What's the warranty on the battery and when it expires how much does it cost to replace the battery? We talking 10 years from now? I'm assuming the battery will be a cheaper to replace than it is now

bro there is no comparison...

tesla is cheaper, looks better, better performance, most likely safer, has the national charger network, more tech advanced...
There is a comparison, they are both cars powered by electric motors.

You think they will sell the 2 motor performance model for 55k?
All electric Audi R8

No doubt and with the success of this car gas prices going to go down even more... And watch Elon Musk start getting lobbyist in his payroll to combat big oil lobbyist... These mofos tried to kill the Tesla and have failed miserably..

His SpaceX venture going to change the game too..

You are confusing two things. One is quick with being fast. The Tesla has great acceleration and quick straight line speed but lacks pure power and speed.

It is like watching Usain Bolt run. Often times people are able to jump out on Usain Bolt just for him to hit top speed and not only catch them but pull away.

If their are turns and a good lenght the Tesla would get smoked prety easily. From 0-70 the Tesla is fast but once those speeds are reached you can see how the gas powered car really kicks in with power.

In california and NY the warranty for battery replacement is extended to 10 years or 150k. In my Infiniti Hybrid to replace the batteries if they go out is around 1200. Which ain't shit. So I'd assume the tesla which is all battery would be 3 to 5000k

everything looks good to me except the screen.i prefer the screens on the model x and s and having basic information on top of the steering wheel. think just a concept

What people are forgetting is that the Tesla can be inconvient. Depending your charger you are looking at 1 hour to 4 per charge.

The charging of the battery and performace of the car is still an issue. Handling turns and accelerating out of them are unmatched by a BMW.

Also the weight time on charging a car is problematic.

the use of electric motors / battery, whether implemented in a hybrid application or all electric is the future of auto performance. Other than the nostalgic acceleration feel and sound of having an ICE you can't deny it. Some of these comments are crazy other than loss of available battery power what's going to stop the acceleration and allow a non EV car to catch up?

I dig that comparison but how much faster do you need to go beyond 70? I do a 2-3 hour drive maybe twice a month Im usually on cruise control at around 80.

I def feel the inconvenience piece but cats will waste an hour on their phones parked outside their own crib playing on their phone lol If anything I think will take more thought out time usage on the owners part.

Exactly. Thats Musk's ultimate goal to have a Tesla affordable as Hondas and Toyotas because that's where he'll really make his bread. The model 3 isn't even the end game, he's said that other similar models will come out and be cheaper in due time.

They are most likely gonna make sure the performance version smokes the M3 because Elon Musk is an asshole like that...
That's fine because i don't race anymore but I prefer a car that excites me. Meaning, it must sound good, brake well, corner well, solid build, rich interior etc.

I drive around in a 560 HP car and I don't do over 90mph anymore.

That said, I will only buy the top of the line Tesla if they will sell it for under $50k because that's all it's worth to me.

Right 90mph too slow for you
