Terrell Owens: 'I'm retiring' if no team signs me in 2013

Reality is beginning to set in for Terrell Owens. Unable to find a team interested in his services since the Seattle Seahawks released him last August, the unsigned free agent has been spending his time on the semi-pro bowling circuit.

Now, 2.5 years removed from his last NFL reception, Owens says he will accept his football fate if teams continue to give him the cold shoulder.

"If I play this year, that'd be awesome. If I don't play this year, I'm retiring," Owens told CBSSports.com. "That's just me being realistic. I want to play again. I want to go out on top with a team. I think I can still play, but if I don't sign with a team, it would be time to retire. I have to be honest with myself."

Owens piled up 983 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010. He's confident he still can contribute.

"I'm not chasing a dream. I can still play football," Owens said. "If you're a team looking for a wide receiver and don't think I can play, tell me why. If it's because you don't like me, then that's fine, but don't tell me I can't still play."

Let's point out the obvious here: The retirement isn't Owens' choice. The league is retiring him for the same reason Tim Tebow has yet to find a taker: He's no longer effective enough to assume a starring role. It's not worth bringing the circus to town for a fringe player.

In my opinion T.O. Signed his fate when he started complaining about Romo throwing to Witten too much 'cuz they're rooming with one another on road trips. When you're so loud & obnoxious that even Jerry Jones won't touch you, there's a problem.

Dawg! Retire bruh. Its over. DONE! Start a career in training future athletes or some other NFL/sports related shit. Give it up man! :smh:

you were a dick to coaches and OC and got blacklisted. Period
Other [white] players did much worse and didn't get blacklisted. TO was too "uppity" for the establishment. He should have been a serial rapist with a couple of championships instead.

What White players did more to upset a locker-room WITHIN the context of the game?!?

We ALL know that with winning off-the-field transgressions can be overlooked!

I lost so much respect for him when he dogged Mcnabb.

but acted like romo was a better qb.. he played himself...big time..

his ego fucked him out of a superbowl ring.... and he only puts on that sad show, when he wants attention..

that muthafucka aint change one bit..

between him and chad... its like their 90 percent of their demise was off field mental shit....

but there is still hope, both look to be in great shape..

This is 100% correct but they got 2nd chances and it was blamed on pure passion and he has heart....

I hope someone take a chance on him...

Im sure this time he will make the best of the opportunity

From a crime perspective I agree... and if this was happening to Vick then your point would be well made, however, he is blacklisted for shit it did as it related to football moreso than off field criminal activity... so your point really is misguided and makes no sense...
:hmm:

Him and Chad might as well go sit down some where. Or go tryout for the Jets, It's a fucked up organization over there. They already talking about starting Sanchez again they'll fit right In.:smh:

Its a damn shame the T.O. story! Easily one of the best receivers I've seen in this modern ear. It's crazy unfortunate how his career tailed off....

Such a sad ending. This cat had all the physical tools to be one of the game's all time greats. As it stands, his numbers alone should get him in the HOF, but damn, he could have been so much more. Had he not fucked up in Philly, he and McNabb could have been a dangerous duo for quite a while.

I bowled with him several years ago, and off the field, he's a real laid back kinda guy.
