Teen mom accused of throwing baby in the trash hid her pregnancy

Neighbors of an 18-year-old Brooklyn mom accused of throwing her newborn baby down a trash chute said Monday she hid her pregnancy.

Laquasia Wright, charged with attempted murder and endangering the welfare of a child, remained at Brooklyn Hospital Center yesterday.

Her baby boy was tossed down a trash chute in the Walt Whitman Houses in Fort Greene, landing in a garbage bag.

The infant miraculously survived the Sunday fall with no apparent injuries and is in stable condition, officials said. The compactor was jammed and garbage had piled up, cushioning the baby's fall, according to a spokesman for the Brooklyn district attorney's office.

"I wish she would have told us," said Valerie Prince, 43. "We could have helped her."

Wright has lived with her grandmother since her mother moved out a few years ago, neighbors said. "She's not a monster," said a neighbor. "She made a mistake."

HOW MANY TMIES do you need to read about girls getting pregnant, having to drop out of school & ruining their lives? Do you REALLY think your boyfriend will stick by you & the baby, moreso if he doesn't have a steady JOB or a career other than hanging out w/his neighborhood thugs? Condoms are cheap & sometimes even free & IF condoms were expensive, aren't YOU, YOUR future & YOUR well-being worth the price of a condom?

Bronx Lady 0510- right on, WRITE ON! The baby will probably be put in foster care, lead a worst life than if the young girl kept and raised the baby... but, what will this girl say to the baby in 15 or 20 years? I've read about children looking for their biological parents to satisfy a personal need to know why they were abandoned or given up for adoption... this is one biological mother that doesn't deserve to be found! This girl will probably grow up, get knocked-up or marry & have other children... what will she say to the other children about her first-born? Will her conscience even bother her, will she even develop a conscience? This "mistake" is a crime that merits punishment.

she made a mistake..sounds like she made a few...1st mistake opening her legs 2nd not using protection 3rd TRYING TO TAKE AWAY A HUMAN LIFE that did not ask to be here dumb a$$ should of taken the baby to a fire house or hospital this new generation is seriously mentally ill what part of no questions ask if you drop a living breathing baby at a church, hospitalk, fire house or police station DONT THEY UNDERSTAND!! Send the lowlife to jail hopefully this baby will be adopted by a loving family that will take good care of him...

Girls who are chubby can do it very well, I knew one who did it. She ended up delivering on the living room floor of her grandma's house. But with the smaller girls when they pull this off it should be attributed to parental negligence.
