Teen gets 40-year sentence over ‘hot Grease’ fight

A Cobb County judge sentenced a woman to 40 years Wednesday for attacking other women with hot oil after an argument broke out on Instagram.

Myzelle Chantel Armstrong, 19 (18 when when the incident occurred), was convicted Friday of aggravated battery and aggravated assault for attacking four women.

In February last year, two groups of women began bickering over messages and photos published on the social media site and decided to meet to fight at the Cumberland Glenn Apartments in Smyrna.

When the challengers drove up they found the other group had weapons, including a baseball bat and cooking pots containing hot oil, said Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds.

Armstrong held open the car door as fellow defendant Zawadi Clark threw the oil on the women. The attack left Ashley Hardy with second degree burns and lifetime scars, according to Channel 2 Action News. One victim had to undergo skin grafting as a result of the burns, Reynolds said.

At sentencing Wednesday, Armstrong tearfully apologized for her role in the incident. “Again I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry,” she said.

Assistant District Attorney Jaret Usher pointed out the use of hot oil wasn’t like a rock picked up in a fight. Heating it on a stove required premeditation.

Judge Robert D. Leonard II sentenced Armstrong to four years in prison and 36 years on probation.
