Server is a very general term. What kind of server are you trying to turn it into? Are you just trying to turn it into a file server and share some files? If that's the case, you can do that right now by just creating network shares.

From looking at the specs of your PC that's about all you will be able to do or POSSIBLY a web server. Anything else you try to do will probably run so slow it's not worth it. Checkout the the minimum requirements for the last couple of releases of Windows Server...that'll give you a better idea of your possibilities and limitations if you want a true server. There are other OS's for server but I'm not too familiar with those. Honestly, if you are a novice I wouldn't recommend trying to load anything like Solaris or Linux server software anyhow.

you're already done. just connect it to your router and give it a static ip address. any computer can be a server.

just d/l ftp server software. google ws_ftp server +crack. thats the last one i remember using but that was years ago. look for something that offers secure ftp.

and use a port other than the default ftp port 21 so cox dont trip - home server are actually forbidden on most ISP contracts.

Yo checkout clarkconnect.com its linux based and the install is wizard based so once you install it it will get an address on your network. You an run websites, ftp, file server it can even be a firewall all for free. There are a few others like smoothwall but I use clarkconnect right now and its perfect. Will detect who's trying to hack your network everything. PM me if you have questions ill post some screen shots of the administration.
