I'm going to need somebody to walk me through this shit cuz I can't figure it out and I'm hamstrung until I can.

Early December I changed to a new internet service provider and got Norton Antivirus, yeah, I know. I can't connect to the internet on either of my two laptops. One laptop, a Lenovo Windows 10, doesn't see my wifi network at all.

My other laptop, my writing laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 I can't figure out. Norton gives me a warning that I'm connected to an insecure Network while my computer says I'm not connected to the internet.

I want to buckle down and get my writings done this year but my shit is on OneDrive which I can't connect to

I know some people going to clown, but I don't have time for it. I'm trying to get my shit done. I'm going to need one of y'all to talk me through it possibly step by step, but I need to get reconnected to my shit.

Something I did, either switching to a different ISP which made me have to switch my Wi-Fi network, which is still messing with my Nest thermostat connection. I've had the same Wi-Fi network for 13 years, now this change and shit starts fucking up

Weather is Google Voice or whatever the fuck, somebody help me

If you disable Nortons can you connect? Did you name your wifi network the same as the old one and keep the same password?
I thought I kept the same wifi network, but it used to be NavyHome77 and now it's Navyhome77

Don't know how to disable Norton

Capitalization matters. Usually you just have to right click on the system tray icon and choose shut down or disable.

Since it's both pc's and the nest start with correcting the wifi name and password tho.

Then disable Norton if no connection.

Then try hard wiring with an ethernet cable.

Did you try a restart of both pcs?

Under wifi connections, forget the network then put the information in again

Hey bossman, if you’re still having issues tomorrow I should be able to help. I’ll shoot you a message once I get some things out of the way at work.

Some AV software with firewalls can break your whole internet connection. Booting into safe mode with networking will allow the computer to boot up without the av running. If you connect that way, it’s probably Norton.

It really sounds like the issue is the actual network name changing, the easiest fix for that is to login to your router and change your network name to exactly what it was before, case sensitive. Also, your isp should be able to do this for you remotely. More than likely, the tech made a rookie mistake doing the switch.

Completely uninstall Norton, you don't need it. It's more trouble than help.
Man this shit is getting on my God damn nerves I can't figure this shit out. Even trying to turn my shit on in safe mode is like, HUH?

Did you log into your router and change the username and verify the password is correct?

You're going to need the Norton removal tool

GoW you sound like the folks I had to walk through troubleshooting where they act like every step is too hard. This is a max 30 min trouble issue, assuming you have to do everything and it's not the wireless network. Like the one poster said, it's best to forget it and reconnect. I just had to change my name and password to match for most of my devices to connect to the new router automatically, but I had one where I had to forget and reconnect.

check your IP address settings make sure everything is set to DHCP

check your DNS

This right here for starters.

Disconnect your router and modem from the power source.

Then connect your router and modem let them go green, go into the settings, and change the name of the network and the password. Write that shit down somewhere. You can also change settings in your internet ISP account.

Reboot everything.

Now, when you look for your network it should be fine on all devices and your new password should work.

If you're looking for an anti try Webroot. Small, unintrusive (unlike Norton). And get Nord VPN and you're invisible and good to go.

I use webroot.

Yep. I tried Norton maybe 30 years ago and it got in EVERYTHING. It wasn't until a clean install of Windows that I was able to get rid of that crap. Like somebody said, I can't believe people are still using that junk. McAfee too. Yuck. Then again it does put paper in my pocket...

Which plan would you recommend? i just cancelled Norton and looking for a new anti virus program.
Niggas still using Norton?
One hell of a ram hog....and terrible.

Hey, my man got me together.

I love y'all mofos, for real. This board is the best place online.

Thank you all for your help and contributions.

I got rid of Norton for my one computer, and my other computer wasn't capable of reading Wi-Fi 6. But I ordered an adapter for that which will be here on Thursday.

What was the fix? Wifi 6 routers are supposed to be backwards compatible. I have a mix of devices. Only my phones have and show wifi 6.

Glad to help bro!

It was multiple issues: Norton vpn broke the TCP/IP stack on one computer, got that squared away. The second has an issue with the WiFi adapter. It’s unable to see a network that the other computers and devices can see, so I recommended a usb Wi-Fi 6 adapter due to not being able to verify or change the broadcast setting in the router. It should end up working out better bc a network is only gonna be as fast as the slowest device on it; so upgrading to a Wi-Fi 6 adapter should keep the speeds high for everything else.

Thanks. Did he get his nest connected?

I connect my tvs to the 5ghz network since those are stationary and everything else to the 2.4 ghz.
