Tech Biz: Elon Musk says the ‘laptop class’ needs to ‘get off their moral high horse’ when it comes to remote work

Dude actually said work from home is morally wrong because everybody doesn't get yo do it.... WTF????

.
Yeah his point is stupid... Ok, so am I on a high horse when I'm sitting at my desk and look out the window at the constructions workers, delivery people, etc.. when its 30 or 95 degrees outside and they can't work inside?

I do agree with some aspects of returning to the office as it relates to accelerated productivity, innovation, and adhoc problem solving by way of in person interactions such as breakroom, hallway conversations, etc. Having to schedule a whole meeting or chase people on Teams slows me down more often than not. But depending on your job role, I think it should be a "hybrid" model where possible.

These corporations are tired of taking a hit on the books because they are still paying for empty office spaces as landlords are not budging on those leases anymore as they look to maintain/grow revenue. That said, people HAD to know the age of "everyone can work from home full time" was going to come to an end in some fashion somewhere along the line. Case in point, I work for a Fortune Top 20 company and just earlier today they sent out a communication to senior management to lay out the plan of how we are pulling people back into the offices. Some people are going to be BIG MAD...and threaten to leave. Welp, the message we just got from the top is "let'em go". ✌
So, its going to be interesting to see how this year unfolds across the tech industry.

I disagree with the logic but it is a similar logic that is used for most equity arguments. If we are being honest, employees are likely to be much more productive in the office where they are visible to a supervisor than at home where they have more access to distracting activities. If I had to guess, the mass majority of people that are working from home are CACs. The only job that I know large numbers of us are doing from home lately is Call Center work which will likely remain as a "work from home" job.

a.k.a. my commercial real estate portfolio is in the shitter.....

fuck outta here with that bullshit....
I don't think he has any Commercial Real Estate portfolio. He is all in Tesla, Boring Company, and SpaceX. Most companies would greatly benefit from employees working from home if the productivity was the same. They would save millions on commercial office space rent, maintenance, security, parking, and travel stipends. The problem is that employees have been much less productive working from home.

Ever notice how these rich folks become socialist when it suits them? Suddenly talking about fairness and shit like that. Only time they seem to hate socialism is when regular, working folks promote it.

Is it fair that Elon has more money than millions of people combined?

I probably misspoke... my comment was probably more directed towards the companies that are pushing for return to office..
Banks are exposed with their commercial portfolios and wfh posses a threat

As far productivity goes I think WFH only exposed non-productive members of organizations..... I can get shit done quicker without the bullshit 2 hour commute...... 1.5 hours worth of water cooler talk with people I don't fucking care for..... and add a extra pizza party to my calendar to make up for the bullshit 3% cost of living raises

WFH has been a god send for black people in the tech sector.... Musk apartheid ass can kick rocks and smd

Just thinking about this now..... more commuters = more tesla consumers there is probably a financial incentive for him in this as well

Shark Tank guy says otherwise.

Kevin O'leary doesn't have much experience managing employees. He created and sold a startup, then mainly funded other businesses. Elon has much more experience running businesses and managing employees.

I agree that the work-from-home movement hurts commercial real estate. Especially office space and the retail that is adjacent. Despite your experience of being more productive working from home (if accurate), most people are less productive. Otherwise, companies wouldn't be changing back. Look at the posts in this very thread. If we are being honest, we would rather work from home to do other shit while working.

Most companies have had record profits these past couple of yrs.. so the fact they making more money shows that productivity is doing better now than b4.. they pushing for at work cause of them commercial space bills and some power trip shit where they can see and control the workers. Nothing more nothing less

I can see an argument for junior/less experienced folks going into the office to acclimated with the S.O.P. corporate bullshit or onboarding

From the video I watched he said it's been beneficial from people working from home and it's not going back to the old ways.

Bruh, this is a survey of the employees. Of course they are going to poll saying they are more productive.
Question: If employees are more productive working remote, why would employers be willing to pay for office space for less productivity? Every large business has a staff of people looking for ways to save money. Wouldn’t it be obvious to let employees keep working from home to save millions in office space rent?

2022 was a good year for a lot of businesses. Much of the success was due to low interest rates and high consumer spending. Starting 4th quarter 2022-Current and businesses are getting hit. Many are laying off right now. Especially Tech. Much of the return to work push started 4th Quarter 2022.

My point is that employers increase the push to comeback into the office as their businesses suffered. Employees working from home was not a contributor to businesses doing well 2020-2022.

20% more cash flow profit from the reduction of overhead.

How's a CEO gonna sell losing that to his investors just to save another sector of the economy.

Workplace complaints and lawsuits have to be down 80-90%. Kevin and comporate America are giving Elon the finger and there is nothing he can do about it except lose more money.
