Tech Fam need a recommendation on a flat screen smart TV

Just for a kids room.

So nothing bigger than 32 inch

720 / 1080 don't really matter much

But something clear, easy set up and reliable is most important

Using it for Youtube, streaming apps and a Switch and P4.

Appreciate yall

last couple of TV's I got for family members were TCL with built in Roku. Well reviewed, affordable, good quality nice featureset- though I was up in the 50/55 inch range. & was getting 4k joints.

Not 32" but got my kids these LG 43" TVs. Flat, light and easy remote to use. They only use it for Xbox and streaming, not hooked up to cable box. The newer models may be better but wouldnt pay more than $400 for a kids TV. All of my TVs are now LG and no complaints.

Main thing I have noticed lately is thats its not the size of the tv but the placement of the legs or stand.

My kids have LGs. No complaints.

that's crazy its actually an LG TV that conked out on me.

And they LOVED that TV.

CLEAR as hell NEVER EVER a problem but then it just went BLACK.

just seek out the best specs, right now, minimum 4k resolution & 120hz refresh rate
AND
buy a good full coverage warranty - Assure or Geek Squad etc - that will repair /replace the TV if anything breaks

SlickDeals is the TRUTH
AND - The Hisense here is not 32" - but its an affordable way to spoil the kids - if you have the space

and bargain basement 720p :puke:

When I was looking for a new TV, BGOL failed me. :( For reviews look at failure rates, tech issues mentioned over and over again, menu or remote being hard to use. A lot of folks who write reviews are complaining because a $300.00 TV doesn't look or sound like a $3000.00 TV.

On YouTube I like this guy...

https://m.youtube.com/c/TechSteve he often does comparisons.

For websites I like rtings...

I also have a consumer reports subscription. They aren't as reliable as they were years ago, but info on certain features has been helpful and tracking features added or removed and doing feature comparisons.

Just need a small reliable TV for the kids room.

I had to fight their mom for that much.

To be honest, a decent 32 inch is hard to find. That's what I wanted and the options were few. You're probably going to have to get a 43 inch. That's the smallest I could find decent, and it's a bit larger than I wanted for my bedroom. I watch everything with closed caption tho, so I do like the larger screen.

Ok thanks cause I thought I was going insane and forgot how Google worked.

Larger screens were actually CHEAPER.

I think I might get the fire tv that was recommended

Cause like vicious said...

A GOOD 3 YEAR warranty was very affordable on Amazon.

Actually I take this back. When I was looking best buy had like 5 or 9 32 inch tvs. Now they have 30, and some in smaller size. Maybe the selection was low because of the pandemic at the time I was shopping.

These reviews drive me insane they are rarely helpful anymore.

When you read some of the hair brained reasons they give a negative review it is insane

I used to be a very loyal brand name buyer

At one time EVERYTHING was Sony then Panasonic

The TV that busted was an LG and I was just going to cop another one but damn it only lasted like 4 years.

I think your still right though.

If you look at the reviews they are all over the place and some of the production years IF ACCURATE are way off.

I just miss when I would KNOW an RCA Sony or Panasonic were reliable brands automatically

Check out tech Steve on YouTube. He doesn't really try to sway you to a certain TV. He just gives you the facts on them and has certain video tests he runs for all of them. The comparisons are very helpful. You can see the tests ran size by side at the same time.

Just in case you didn’t know they don’t build tvs to last anymore..I thought this was a known fact.. big bizz purposely built faulty shit to make more money..the old days of making a product to last long is long gone.. they found out if they make quality stuff ull most likely rock with it till the wheels fall off and as a company that means they make less money.. now if you have to keep buying something new every few yrs they will make money like that..tv expectancies are like only 4-6 yrs now on purpose.. just like you heard phone companies purposely slowing down old phones so you can buy new 1s or upgrade..this is part of the new tech movement that’s been going on for at least 10yrs.. I’ve made rants about big bizz agenda on topics like this b4 , welcome to their world of fuckery.. reasons why I’m anti big bizz

Looks good so far...

Crazy the 39 inch version is CHEAPER???!!

Bigger is typically better when it comes to TV sizes and hard drive sizes.

I know it might just be for the kids room, but I got spoiled. It bothers the fuck out of me to watching TV smaller than...well, small.

I got three TVs in the house. A 85 in, a 75-in, and a 55 in 3D TV
How do you weatherproof it or do you bring it in anytime it rains?

Holy sh*t

For straight up reliability in the US, Samsung, Sony and LG tend to be better USUALLY...I wouldnt buy any of them in a 32 inch though because the price premium isnt worth it...the only Japanese brand still in the US is Sony so if you see Toshiba, Sharp etc just know that its a Chinese brand using the name...Chinese brands are fine and usually have better value but the QC is USUALLY not as good...just buy something cheap and put a warranty on it as has been suggested...you can probably stretch to a 43 inch with little financial downside

Insignia, Onn etc are rebranded Chinese (usually Hisense or TCL)

Camille has given pretty sound advice I.M.O- I will add a couple of things;

I generally don't do consumer reviews. I think that people will report problems at a higher rate (like 5 to 10x imo) than they will report satisfaction.
so I believe it skews the review results and creates a false impression of the actual quality of a product. In addition, when negative reviews are posted, people are often so upset that they overlook or ignore any good points the product has- they just want to talk about why they don't like a particular product.

The rtings.com that she posted is one of the sites I use- ( I also use cnet & Tom's hardware)

I would just advise to have a pretty good idea of what you want before you go reading reviews.

If you want a 32 inch, why have you decided that? Does it need to fit into a specific space? Is the room a certain size? how close will the viewers be sitting to it? Those are the kinds of things you want to think about when determining the size of the tv.

What other features are important to you? Things like reliability, ease of setup/use, the ability to cast/airplay to the tv, the ability for the user to listen via headphones and a simple remote that can be "spoken" to were more important to me than resolution, color gamut, local dimming zones etc- because I was buying for younger folks who were going to be watching youtube and cartoons and playing fortnite.- but it's easy to read those reviews and think; "oh, wait- I NEED to have 120hz refresh rate or P3 gamut or whatever. For example, a 1080 tv is fine for what you've said you need it for. On a smaller tv like that the difference between 1080 and 4k is almost undetectable... plus, neither the Switch or the Ps4 that your kids will be using even does 4k, so whether they are gaming or watching content via either of those machines, content isn't going to be in 4k anyway. But you'll read those reviews and start thinking you need the best of the best of the best- all the bells and whistles, and then likely overspend. I think you just need what you need. I would figure out my budget first and try to find something that fit my needs within that budget.

Goes in the shed at night. They do have covers for them though.
My BIGGEST fucking mistake is not buying the gazebo with the mosquito nets and curtains u can close. I could just close the whole thing when im not using it.
Eventually im gonna take this one down and get one of those
