Lou DiBella, promoter of middleweight Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs), advised BoxingScene.com that nobody from Team Martinez, including the fighter, made an agreement with the WBC to allow Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31KOs) to defend his middleweight title on February 4th against Marco Antonio Rubio.

The WBC's President, Jose Sulaiman, reached out to Martinez, but contrary to published reports no agreement was ever made. At the recent convention in Las Vegas, the WBC ordered Chavez Jr. to defend his title against Martinez, the organization's Diamond champion. Martinez has a return date of March 17th.

"It's Christmas Eve and I don't want to start calling people liars. There was never any agreement. It's all bulls**t. We knew the WBC was going to sanction that fight. Jose Sulaiman called my fighter directly, and I have to question that, and Sergio told him that he had to speak with me and [adviser] Sampson [Lewkowicz].
