Tamir Rice's Mom Has Words For Tamika Mallory and Other Activists After Watching

blm inc. ≠ BLM

I can always appreciate nuance bruh, please expound if you get the chance. I’m naturally cynical of the commodification of serious critique and there’s always room to criticize activists of all kinds but based on my admittedly quick skimming here there are some awful fucking takes that would seek to dismiss the movement as a whole. A movement that has been very effective in fostering serious discussion and change.

The concept or the organization?

Im open to some nuance brother. Help me make sense of these arguments. What’s the problem with the org? I’m not religious so the anti trans anti gay shit means absolutely nothing to me. James Baldwin was gay af and has done more serious activism than everyone on this site combined.

Its not the fact that they're gay (or trans for that matter).. Rather its the fact that they put their gayness and sexuality on par with or ahead of race as issues to champion and advocate for. This is disgraceful and misleading, especially considering the genesis of these movements has been black dead bodies that have been victimized on basis of race.. In a nation built on race based hatred and oppression. BLM as an organization prioritize sexual preference and gender identity over black equity and equality. They have also expressed a desire to dismantle, patriarchy, nuclear family, while promoting bullshit misnomers and non imperative efforts such as "feminism".

And please never mention Baldwin with these clown ass weirdos again in your life. Baldwin was clear that his issues in this country had nothing to do with his sexual identity and everything to with the color of skin. Baldwin himself stated that he was well aware of the burdens of blackness and race based hatred by unevolved whites well before he ever knew what gay was or that he would ever consider himself to be that.

I appreciate and understand what you’re saying here bruh. Some quick thoughts before I slip into the shadows again for a few weeks lol:

I’m not aware of BLM presenting gender/sexuality as being a more pressing issue than race. The name itself belies this argument... it’s BLM not LGBTQ-M lol. I am aware that they are pushing “intersectionality” heavy as an org which is par for the course in academic study of race and gender in this country. There are legit criticisms to be made of feminism etc but it would be silly to dismiss “feminism” as a whole. I would slap anyone white that said their gayness or womanhood was equivalent to the black struggle in America but I’d be sympathetic af to any black woman or gay black person who suggested they suffered from a fucked up double stigma in this superficial ass society. I appreciate your protectiveness of Baldwin and agree but I think he’d find a lot of the commentary in this thread problematic af (not to put words in that mans mouth). Peace

This was explicitly stated in their original mission statement which was subsequently scrubbed from the website upon scrutiny during last years turmoil.

Academic studies funded and pushed by closet bigoted gay and straight white liberals who want to piggyback and steer the movement of Black equality to some all inclusive hodge podge that reaps no real benefit to the black people who have sacrificed the most? No thanks.

Im dismissing it as a whole in this context. It has ZERO place in this discussion on centuries long fight for Black liberty.

since the civil war
every time black americans approach a threshold -white feminists atempt to co-op or marginalize
they initially fell short on suffrage and have been successful since by luring in black women

We’re taking past each other here. Some things I know for sure:

1. The BLM movement and activism in general has been very important as an organizing principle and is probably the most meaningfully black-focused national activism project over the last 30 years. Much more work to do still and much required legislation to be championed still but that’s just reality IMO.

3. Black women navigate challenges along racial and gender lines that we don’t as black men, bringing it to the fore isn’t a problem.

3. I agree on the points around white feminism coopting the movement more broadly (see affirmative action results as an example), no argument there.

The rest sounds like a bunch of reactionary conservative bullshit to me my guys. On the plus side, I don’t doubt your integrity, seriousness or sincerity in the slightest my brothers.. y’all two always keep it 100. Respect, thanks for the convo.
