T-Mac To The Knicks??

It might happen. They want to do it just to free up cap space. With the logic that they'll be able to buy the players they need to bring themselves into contention. Convoluted logic like that is why the Knicks have not come close to contention in years. Another star player past his prime.

Even in their best playoff years (1988-1993), the Knicks had Patrick Ewing (a draft pick) without whom the Knicks would've dome NOTHING.

I'm conflicted with this trade. By getting T-Mac this will allow us to sign two top free agents b/c his contract will be up by season's end and either Jared Jefferies or Al Harrington will be involved in the trade. So I like that aspect b/c we do need to dump some of these contracts.

Now the reason I am against it is that this means we are really trying to put all our hope on getting Lebron (who I would love to come play for us but don't see that happening). So say that James, Wade, and Bosh decide to stay where they are or go elsewhere, what was the point of doing all this? B/c we will just end up w/ ppl who won't take us to that extra level really.

I have been saying we will get Bosh and Wade so I think this will help us get to that level to acquire both players.

what I don't like is the concept that you have to buy your way to playoff contention. That the only way to get there is purchase the services of a "super" star player. Even if Lebron James decides to walk and the Knicks get him, it doesn't ensure them a championship. Hell, it won't even ensure them a playoff spot.

The way to do it is to build it from the bottom up. Not the top down

I agree run, a team has to build but the NBA is very much a "it takes a superstar to win" type of league. I'm not saying that is the end all be all but winning teams need to have that superstar in the line up, in addition to quality support to help you win.

But like you said you have to build to be able to build so you can replenish your team w/ younger talent (eg. the Celtics). Now with the Knicks, Houston wants our picks for 2011 and 2012, we already lose our pick this yr to Utah so 3 yrs with no picks and still unsure what we have in Jordan Hill and Tony Douglas (mainly D'Antoni's fault). We do need picks but in the mean time this will have to do b/c it will take even more time for draft picks to build up and I'll be damn if I gotta go through another decade of a horrible b-ball franchise.

yall gotta think about the 2012 free agents too. spending "all" your money on lebron isnt' smart and it wont bring you an automatic championship. I say they get Bosh and or Wade, do some trades next year and try to land a Center/Point Guard.
