I clearly stated the overuse of terms and phrases.

It would be one thing if these words remained in our vocabulary, but they tend not to. A passing phase. I don't like our people following trends and then dropping them like they do their footwear.

Apparently you didn't read the exceerpt I posted else you wouldn't make that argument...........

I hate these types of posts because they ALWAYS, without exception, turn into self-hate festivals. All that other shit comes and goes and means much of nothing, every culture has it's slang terms, the only thing hurting blacks folks is their hatred of black folks. It ain't slang, it ain't clothes, it's hatred. Maybe some of you negroes need to look in the mirror and try to find something RIGHT in yoursevles.

That is my fucking point !!!!

We laugh at all the other words except the "N" words and its variant....

We have a problem with boo, baby daddy, moe, cat, dog etc.... but NOT the "N" word
?????

:smh:

:smh: its so true Kayanation. there is all these excuses why the use of the "n" word is relevant yet those other words some of which are not meant to demean but simply overused are the ones that are being put down.
I do not get that concept. It seems completely illogical.

You married? I need a strong woman......

(if you can help it) stop hanging around young folks, simple minded grown folks, and give the radio a rest (trust me, your not missing anything). i can go weeks without hearin any of that shit.
at the end of the day, its all in the company you keep.

but you gotta count your blessings. if everybody dropped their "swagger" tomorrow and started talking to each other like we were hosting good morning america... you'd really have a problem.

I've never made an excuse for the use of the "n" word.

It simply wasn't the topic of my thread as it has been a thread topic several, several, several times on this board already.

Everyone is free to add the words that apply including the "n" word and the "b" word which is widely overused in our community.

I read thhrough this entire thread, and to me, it seems like "IT IS WHAT IT IS!"
What the hell is that? I remember watching 106 and Park one time, and some group was on there, and i can't remember who they were, but Free asked them a question, and the answer was, "You know what I'm sayin? I mean, it is what it is and it was what it was." The dumbest shit I ever heard in my life!

With freedom comes responsibility.

Why can't you see this?

Don't forget pwnd and pwnt. It's when people try and type owned but miss the O key; it's done so often it became its own term.

I'm actually guilty of this one; especially while watchin football. I always saw it as a term coined by Halo/Counter-Strike gamers that wasn't "cool" enough for black people to use.

The sad part about all of this is that if Jay-Z and Beyonce made a song dissing people who said all this shit, it would stop overnight. :hmm:

I think black folks shouldnt use the phrase "OWNED" just sounds suspect to me i think thats some shit racist ass white boys on xbox live made up to say the own niccaz or some shit well maybe not but i heard some whiteys laughing over the shit on xbox live and it just made me think damn thats fucked up if thats what they mean when they say that shit

SO u own me huh im your fucking slave AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH what the hell

besides that it just really sounds GAY!

One thing that drivers me crazy is when people try to have a conversation, YOU KNOW WHAT I'm SAYING? And every other phrase, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING? is followed by YOU KNOW WHAT I'm SAYING?

No bitch, explain to me what you're attempting to say without fucking asking me DO I KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOUR SAYING!

That shit pisses me off because it sounds so got damn stupid, You know what i'm saying? :hmm:

femme I was simply agreeing with what Kaya said.

I also feel that there are a lot of words, phrases and gestures that are overused and that make no sense whatsoever. Its usually whatever is deemed as the "in" thing.
It is a difficult thing to get people to attempt to broaden the vocab when we are inundated with all this music and music videos that have such an influence on the community. Who ever the next person is on top of the charts starts the next trend. :smh: unfortunate but true. Didnt they try to start "ebonics" a while back in the states as part of the curriculum? I mean what does that tell us.

You guys might as well put the majority of slang/Jargon/Ebonics   whatever you want to call it on the list  and thats REAL TALK! :D :)

don't know if this has been covered....but in NYC...
everyone calling each other "SON", "B", "God"......
ya dig....
ya heard....
you smell me??................nah son, i don't...

in Cali, Bay Area to be specific......
YADDADDADAMEAN.......wtf is that shit??.....and the more yaddaddadddaddda's you add the more gangsta you are....... :smh:
using the word "HELLA" 3-4 times in a sentence....

You've explained your point and I don't disagree with you.

Now back to the thread.

I also can't stand the pounding of the chest with a closed fist and then using the so-called peace sign as a sign of "good bye".

Seems mostly a man thing.

Oh How About "thats My Shit" When They See Somethin The Like....or One That I Really Hate "thats The Business Right There" Or "that Aint The Bizzz" Bvut The Shit That Really Gets On My Nerves Is Brothers Over The Age Of 30 Who Still Wear Cornrows!!!!

We bout to make a comeup shawt! :hmm:
An interesting way to look at our vernacular is as a sense of solidarity and differentiation from our original oppressors?

"The “Africanized form” of AAVE and its cultural history serve as a symbol of ethnic identity and pride. AAVE's resistance to assimilation into Standard American English or other more standard dialects is a consequence of cultural differences between blacks and whites (Romaine 109). Any language used by isolated groups of people is likely to split into various dialects. Thus, language becomes a means of self-differentiation that helps forge group identity, solidarity and pride. It is “intricately bound up with his or her sense of identity and group consciousness”.[18]"

I don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread. I havn't read everything.

But, the word I hate is Goddamn. I can't stand that shit. Why black people use it so much I don't know. :smh: No one who knows me uses that word around me.
:(
