During the Marvel's Captain America: 75 Heroic Years special airing on ABC, a quick little publishing update was tucked in towards the end in which a familiar face is returning to an old mantle, with new duds. That's right, it looks like Steve Rogers is donning the red, white and blue once again and even has a new accessory. The series, Steve Rogers: Captain America, will be written by Nick Spencer and will have art by Jesus Saiz.

Although Rogers is currently sidelined by literal old age,Marvel.com revealed that Rogers will be back in action after Avengers: Standoff, a new crossover event between several Avengers titles. "Without spoiling too much of Standoff at this early date, something happens that restore Steve to full vigor, which will obviously greatly impact his own mission and his standing within the Marvel Universe," Spencer told Marvel.com. "The biggest part of that? He's Captain America once again."

Despite Rogers returning to action, this doesn't mean Sam Wilson will relinquish the Captain America title or shield anytime soon. "When Steve handed the shield to Sam, it didn’t come with any caveats," Spencer said. While Wilson will handle more topical and current threats in Captain America: Sam Wilson (also written by Spencer, with art by Daniel Acuna), Rogers will fight a resurgent Hydra organization in Steve Rogers: Captain America.

Rogers won't be the only character returning to action in the new book. Sharon Carter will also appear in the series and Spencer teased appearances by several other familiar faces from Rogers' past. In addition, Captain America will also wield a hi-tech variant of his classic Golden Age shield.

Keep an eye out for Steve Rogers: Captain America, out this summer at a comic book store near you.

I don't mind this especially since they are NOT taking Falcon's costume.

No one stays ESPECIALLY Cap. And its a nice throwback

sidebar: Marvel Comics screwed up ROYAL with this Civil War 2 issues and story lines COMPLETELY out of wack.

Interesting in the DECADES of comics before all this technology>?

DC or Marvel never had these issues?

i liked civil war 2, but im also a leinil yu fan. all of those storylines were set in battleworld.

Sup with the useless utility belt and how is he going to throw that shield and let it bounce of multiple targets? Not feeling it

When Sam Wilson became Captain America back in 2014, it was only a matter of time before he realized that no matter how patriotic a person may be, nobody looks good dressed up in all red, white, and blue. After a few years of flinging Steve Rogers’ old shield around, Sam’s getting back to his roots.

Today, Marvel announced a new, post-Secret Empire Falconsolo series written by Rodney Barnes and illustrated by Joshua Cassara following Sam as he tries to re-establish who he is in the larger Marvel universe after being Captain America.

Sam became Captain America back when an aging Steve Rogers asked him to become the symbol of American heroism that he’d been in his prime. Sam, ever loyal to Steve, took him up on the offer, and for a while, things seemed like they were going fine. But then Steve regained his youth, became the supreme leader of Hydra, and took over the country, forcing Sam and other heroes to go underground.

In an interview with Comicbook, Falcon writer Barnes described how, at the beginning of the new series, Sam finds himself reevaluating his life and relationships.

“He feels guilty about his relationship with Steve Rogers and wonders if he didn’t pick up clues as to what team Steve was really playing for, what else has he missed?” Barnes said. “So he’s backing away from the limelight for a spell and taking a more grass roots approach to making the world a better place.”

Falcon, Barnes said, will pair Sam with the new Patriot as they take on Blackheart, son of the demon Mephisto and the type of magical enemy that Sam isn’t all that accustomed to going up against. From afar, it sounds like Marvel’s moving Sam away from the Cap moniker in preparation for giving it back to Steve in full, post-Secret Empire. And honestly? That’s a good thing. Falcon’s one of the core members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and giving his comic book counterpart a chance to get out from beneath Steve’s (now-tainted) shadow can only be a solid choice for the character. Falcon hits stores this fall.
