Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cuban'

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

What this fool aint understanding is the unbalanced scale that Cuban used. Comparing a black guy wearing a hoodie, something you wear when its cold to a skinhead that permanently tatooed his face is the problem. And most white people didnt know what a hoodie was until Treyvon Martin died wearing one

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

How you going to say you don't care what people say, but you on national Television explaining yourself.

Yeah man he goes on about how he doesn't care what people think but yet this is the third day in a row he is explaining himself. He never likes to admit when he is wrong about something. He said it himself that his real friends and family were calling him and challenging him on what he said. That right there should tell him something.

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

The problem is Stephen A. Is not qualified to opine on this issues on behalf of black people to the nation, yet he Is in that position weirdly.

First Take is the biggest talking head sports show on TV. It used to be Skip and every other black writer/journalist at ESPN. Now they have the perfect formula. Skip the level headed wise white man and Stephen A. the young, loud black man. Stephen A. already lost that ESPN money once so he's not saying anything to lose it again even if it means selling out his race. Deep down I'm sure he knows what he's saying is wrong on race issues but he doesn't think he can afford to rock the boat.

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

Through with SAS he has no right to scold the black community...he doesn't know everyone's story...

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

valid points.

true. LeBron, Kobe, Jay Z, all of those are one in a billion. They are the American dream as Stephen a Smith said because no matter how hard I worked I was not going to be LeBron. I could be Stephen a Smith though. He was exactly right in that point.

I agreed with Mark Cuban and his stance on prejudice that we all have. Like Stephen a Smith said and I noticed when I heard Mark Cuban statement the first time was that in the very next breath after he talked about the black guy with the hoodie he mentioned be suspicious looking white guy with tattoos all over. We all have it, it is a self protection mechanism. I talked about it on a radio show today WKNR Cleveland. calling Stephen a Smith a sell out or an Uncle Tom for his stance on that was over the top and ultimately unfair

He's been doing that shit alot, first he blames us for the use of the n-word,even though we didn't invent it, and then have the audacity say that a black person shouldn't be wearing a hoodie...really...

And then, say that presentation matters, even though white people don[t give a shit what type of clothes you're wearing as long you're a black man living in Amerikkka...

He didn't have an answer when Michael Dyson said that President Obama wears a suit and tie and yet white folks thinks he's a n-word in their eyes...

And then Stephen A was saying that an old white lady was clutching her purse, when he was wearing a suit and tie and yet he has the audacity to say presentation matters.....fuck outta here...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

glad to see Professor Dyson the goat on civil rights KO that that nigga on first take today

down goes SAS down goes SAS :lol::lol:

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

He isn't defending his position well...

its just as jumbled as Cuban's original words.

He isn't addressing Cuban's points and he isn't able to adequately respond to the opposition.

What SAS is saying has NOTHING to do with what Cuban is talking about.

SAS is using tired stereotypes. He is talking about sagging jeans and using slang and job interviews?

What in the hell does that have to do with the point Cuban himself apologized for?

We ALL understand people have prejudices...that isn't some grand revelation by Cuban.

What exposed Cuban is the SPECIFIC comparison he chose to use...

he KNEW he was going to be interviewed, he KNEW that he had previously made comments attempting to defend Sterling.

So if Cuban wants to continue with his 'smartest guy in the room' act then he has the suffer the consequences when he is called out.

SAS is wrong...not because we should be aware of our surroundings, realize our appearance effects how others treat us etc.

He's wrong because he KNOWS that Cuban was speaking from a position of power, of someone fully aware of how racism is institutionalized in this country and how he included has benefited and continued to benefit from it, that White people need to justify their years of oppression and enslavement of our people yet be seen as innocent and he pandered to that.

Ya'll want to fall for the okey doke fine...but remember all that basic bullsh*t SAS was spewing is exctly what THEY gonna use to continue to divide and conquer us.

C/S He's right but I still can't stand his ignorant azz!

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

Fuck Mark Cuban's comments. You know he just threw in the tatted up white dude because he knew he was diggin himself a deep hole to get out of. Why didn't he say a Latino covered in tats. Let me get this straight; any black kid in any kind of hoodie is as scary as a white dude with tattoos all over his face and everywhere else. Fucc outta here

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

I stopped listening to SAS on this argument when after he said "appearance matters " like all you have to do is look and speak the part, then turned RIGHT around and tells the story about the white lady clutching her purse. He doesn't connect the dots, he's just talking to appease the white man.

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

There has to be a better way of presenting his message that
does not seem offensive and condesending

Stephen A Smith is also an anomaly and his status. One of the main problems with Americans is that most of us think with "hard" work that we will be able to achieve a certain level of success which is fallacy regardless of race. If you are born into a certain class then you are more likely to remain there and upward mobility is slowly become extinct in the USA. Part of the problem is that we have this skewed view of class. So a better analogy would be to use the income of an ordinary person an income range of about 75k as the American dream and the most likelihood with hard work, support and luck.

GOW by now you should've noticed yet that anyone who's opinions don't coincide with "many of the know it all BGOL" members will get the coon and or Uncle Tom label? There's some very unrealistic and or confused people on this board. Cuban is guilty of only speaking the truth. His only mistake was in the example he used.

What Stephen A. Smith said was 100% correct. I'm not sure why some always seem to be in denial when the truth about our place in society is discussed. I can see a cold dose of reality slapping many in the face sometime in the future. Doubtful many will know how to handle it. I would bet many didn't watch the entire video yet they expressed their opinions anyway.

Re: Stephen A. Smith responds to criticism he has received for his stance on Mark Cu

Mark Cuban and the people in here that "agree" with him are so out of touch with reality and what's really go on in the streets in 2014.

Stephen A. is all over the place and the points he makes has nothing to do with Mark Cuban still talking about black kids in hoodies.

I know some young black criminals who don't wear hoodies, just like i know model citizens that do wear hoodies. I've encountered plenty of tatted up white people & latinos that are cool as hell.

Yall need to update your stereotypes. Fucking lames.

So lemme ask you this personally. Do you believe the following equation is a fact?

Black teenager in a hoodie = a white tattooed nazi white supremacist

And yes, Mark Cuban only said a white guy with tattoos, but read between the lines. He basically was speaking of a white supremacist without actually saying it.

Black people in the 40s and 50s wore dresses and suits. Even the children were dressed properly. What was the excuse for being suspicious of black people back then?

The thing that many of our misinformed people do not realize is that we are seen as threats as soon as we are born. Hell even before we are born. It doesn't matter whether you got on a hoodie, a suit, drive a bmw, marry a white woman, live in a gated white community. In many peoples eyes in this society, our young black men are seen as a threat.

Yep. The "hoodie" tag is just an outdated excuse to stereotype a black kid. They fear us regardless of what we wear. Mark Cuban admits he has racist bigoted ways and stupid muthafuckas are co-signing. :smh:

Good article by Bill Plaschke.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-cuban-sterling-plaschke-20140523-column.html

Mark Cuban's honesty doesn't excuse racial stereotyping of black youths in hoodies.

Mark Cuban is no Donald Sterling, but the NBA can't let his racial stereotyping go unchallenged.

He is essentially saying he would be fearful of honor students walking to their cars on a chilly Dallas night if they were black and wearing sweat shirts.
