Stephen A. Smith poised to become richest talent in ESPN history

What makes him really valuable is that he's a hole plugger, when a show needs something to boost it then Stepen A. shows up. Like ESPN show Get Up, he showed up to right the ship for a couple of weeks when it was tittering. & now he's moved into boxing so he's becoming an ESPN everyman. On a side note, I used to like his talk show back in the days.

Taped it regularly even when it was routinely chopped up because of scheduling against games

No

He coons

And he yells

Ppl like both

I am surprised he has so many celebrity "friends" who play cool with him on the show but have publicly went against most of his points on social issues.

Many athletes have publicly ignored him

I hate the cooning i hate the yelling

What he did and said to KD should have gotten him fired

What he said about Vilma should have gotten him fired

The Trayvon jr smith hoodie comment

I could go on.

Yes his "performance" can be entertaining but it gets grating and offensive to me at least

And the way his white colleagues condescend in their "compliments"

Damn...

Look money is money i understand

And he EARNED every cent

But damn.

All money aint good money

Good for him for getting his money.

Sad for him because since he left the Philly paper, where he was a damn good sportswriter, the money has made him do a 180. Guess it’s what you do for the paper.

I'm not getting the cooning comments. To me he fits the "loud black man" stereotype. Not his biggest fan, but it's nice to see him getting paid.

for a dude who really doesn't know THAT much about sports outside basketball?

You gotta give him credit for mil
king ESPN dry and making himself a damn STAPLE

and they call him damn near when anything happens in sports and he'll record from his crib or call in. He works hard for his money.

This dude is on tv and radio 23 hours a day.
Everytime I look up, that nigga is on TV.
No days off.
I don't see how he doesn't experience burnout.
That's why he's always fighting sleep on the air.

Yeah, Best damn sports show period was one of the best sports shows on TV before ESPN pilfered almost their entire cast. It was Stephen A Smith, John salley, Tom Arnold, and Chris Rose
Naw I remember it man I didn’t know that’s where he started. That’s wild. I’m a little shocked they show isn’t still on there. All of these shows have borrowed from that format.

Does that Will Cain clown still be on there every fuckin day it seems?

Haven't watched in i don't know how long, that muthafucka ran me off, can stand his face.

Cooned his way to millions

Stephen A was never on that show o_O

"Smith, a native of Hollis, Queens, is well-liked by ESPN’s top executives because he is always willing to go on the air, while other top talent have been known to complain if they are overused. In the next round of negotiations, Smith may try to be even better compensated for all the extra spots he does."

I bet his coworkers hate his ass and i dont blame them

Explain that, fam. So you don't blame the coworkers for getting jealous of a brother that outworks them?

He earned that shit. I can't name anyone on ESPN but him. Eventually, they had to pay some of their talent. They had a firesale a few years back.

It has nothing to do with jealousy. When dude is overworking himself he hurts everyone. The young stars trying to move up the ladder, the veterans who want to do their job and go home, etc. Like the article stated the executives love him for that shit. Now they're putting pressure on the other talent to do more for less or not take anytime off. Their mindset will be if our biggest star can do it you can too. Meanwhile the new talent dont get the exposure because hes even doing NBA courtside coverage.

i remember this season he was asked about the chargers and he was naming players that's been out for the season smh , he works hard tho

Sucka shit. All of this.

That man outworks everyone and is being rewarded. Period. If they don't like it, tell them to step it up too.

He is loud and coons for that bag, but he deserves it because he brings in the ratings.
