DAMN, Statefarm's pulling a Florida..... in California

:itsawrap:
New York CNN — State Farm is stopping new home insurance sales in California, citing wildfire risks and skyrocketing construction costs, the company announced Friday.

The insurance giant stopped accepting applications for all business and personal lines property and casualty insurance in California on May 27. However, State Farm’s decision does not affect existing auto insurance.

“State Farm General Insurance Company made this decision due to historic increases in construction costs outpacing inflation, rapidly growing catastrophe exposure, and a challenging reinsurance market,” the company said in a statement.

California has seen an average of more than 7,000 wildfires each year, consuming an average of over 2 million acres, over the past five years, according to data from the governor’s office. Scientists and California authorities blame the climate crisis for the intensity of the fire seasons.

While “insurance companies prioritize their short-term financial goals, the long-term goal of the Department of Insurance is protecting consumers,” California Department of Insurance spokesperson Michael Soller said.

The factors behind State Farm’s move are beyond the agency’s control, Soller added.

“It’s important to note that current State Farm customers are not affected, and no non-renewals are being issued as a result of this announcement,” Soller said.

State Farm, which is the largest provider of auto and home insurance in the US with its affiliates, claimed it would still work with the California Department of Insurance and lawmakers to build up market capacity in the state.

“However, it’s necessary to take these actions now to improve the company’s financial strength,” State Farm said, adding it will reevaluate according to market conditions.

The Illinois-based insurance group said its agents will continue to work with existing customers.

Last year, American Insurance Group said it would pull policies for multimillion-dollar homes in California, partly because of wildfire risk, the Wall Street Journal reported.

This is a sleeping clusterfuck of a giant. This could be a huge problem, particularly for coastal states and potential flood zones. What happens if there's a huge Gulf Coast storm this year and Florida has NO homeowner's insurance carriers? Or they decide to not take any new apps in N.O. or Houston?

The absolute dumbest thing in the world

You're going to cut off getting money from the entire state because you don't want to insure ppl who want to live in the woods?
Lmaoooooooooooo

From what I've read, most of the large insurance companies have pulled out of Florida, leaving essentially one carrier for the entire state. Of course, this dilemma has resulted in premium rates increasing by over 150%!!!

Insurance is forever a scam. I pay you, you don’t wanna cover my claim for a bullshit reason. Florida is the shit show it’s always been and their insurance rates are INSANE. CALI will soon become the worst place to live even if you’re rich.
State Farm will take your money for years with no claims..... and the moment that you make a claim you are persona non grata.... and they will drop you like a shit filled diaper.... :hmm:

More than that in a lot of cases

If the Democrats take back over the house in the next few years, they need to do a full investigation on some of these insurance companies, especially State Farm because I find out they haven’t been paying out people like they should in Florida before they pulled out *giggity*.

If they paid.... then backed out of the state..... what's wrong? They didn't want to do business there anymore and take that risk anymore.... that's their right even tho most won't like it.... just like if you didn't like living in Georgia anymore..... and no longer wanted to live there.... you can't be forced to live there.... like when you left Miami... :dunno:

Reread my comment there’s a word I left out

Wait NO fuckin way thats for ALL of California, ALL of California is not susceptible

to wildfires....

insurance companies be on some shit..
Oh yes, the new fuckery from these insurance agencies is real this way. On the exact same day I commented on the insurance issues in Florida I had a conversation with a real estate agent I'm working with. The new standard going forward will be, not the amount of flammable material surrounding a property, but the distance that property is from the nearest fire station. So, if you're living or thinking about buying a property in one of these rural out-of-the-city limits places, be ready to purchase some premium property insurance from a small bag of private brokers, because none of the major companies will underwrite a policy for the property!!!

If California lets them get away with this... then the other insurance companies will follow suit soon after. No fire insurance and no earthquake insurance will be bad for our state.

These MoFos make tons of money off of car insurance in our state. If you can't insure our homes; then fuck you, you can't insure our automobiles either.

But we know that government is allowing this shit, because of backroom dealings etc...

there were these brand new million dollar brownstones a whole row of them.....

all the basements got flooded, the city said.. ALL the BROWNSTONES on that Row was

UNLIVEABLE and They all had to move out..

Insurance company said, well since the damage wasnt caused by the actual Water coming from

the sky, but from a flood coming from the ground up and not from Water coming down,

they are not liable and all of the brownstone owners were denied coverages....

they all lost their homes/investment... and not a single fuck given by their insurance

company... they just lost their homes, that happend over decade ago and still dont make

sense to me..

Whether the water came from the sky or from the ground up, its the same fuckin water....

I never understood that... then I remembered how corrupt new jersey is and was thinkin,

some developer just wanted those homes....took fat ass gov christie out to lunch and made it

happen....

EXACTLY!!! They're running the same-ole game again. They, the CAC's, abandoned the cities and moved out to the suburbs, and a bunch of us, wanting to be like them followed. Now, they're sneaking back into the cities, and leaving the burbs, while we get priced out and bank-frauded from moving. So now, if you live in the burbs you may be saving on mortgage payments but property taxes and homeowners insurance is gonna beat the shyt out of you!!!

Yea they thought when they left the cities it was going to be burned down to the ground... and property value was going to

depreciate.... over the years the opposite happend.. and the fact is .. Us Organic Americans aka Real Kniggas, bring UP

property value... the govt lowers property value by letting a lot of mentally ill people run rampant in the streets, and moving them in houses or apts knowing sooner or later they will implode, many just end up in the subway system or

live underground.. lots of folks dont know this but there is a whole fuckin other city Underground new york,

but I digress..

Yea living in the burbs with a soccer mom always gave me low energy vibes... Maybe Im just used to the high energy vibes

of new york city.. or the peaceful energizing vibes of places like Charolette N.C or Jacksonville Florida, Or Barbados,

the few places I been where I seen nothing but brown copper faces all day... Dope energy..

Not that crazy in the insurance industry actually. It's all about the risk pool. I tell people this all the time, but the average person can't comprehend or don't want to hear it. If I tell someone if you had one car totaled at $20k, how would it could take your insurance company a decade just a break even on that one loss. Now add a couple fender benders, windshield replacements etc. This mean the majority of your customer pool has to be low risk to make it make business sense. You want to kick the high risk customers out of your pool and keep the low risk one. On a whole in terms of homeowners insurance CA has skewed vastly more to the high risk side. Wildfires are one thing, but the extra rain and flash floods were probably the tipping point. More companies will follow suit. You heard it here first.

There are a few companies not taking on new homeowners policies in Houston. I found out while shopping around before my renewal.

Allstate among insurers not taking new homeowners insurance policies in California

A spokesperson for the company says they stopped doing so last year.

CALIFORNIA, USA —
Allstate is among the insurance giants not currently taking new homeowners insurance policies in California.
While recent headlines have followed State Farm pulling out of the new homeowners insurance market in the state, Allstate says they paused it last year.
"We paused new homeowners, condo and commercial insurance policies in California last year so we can continue to protect current customers," Brittany Nash, spokesperson for the company, told ABC10 in an email.

It's also not clear why the insurance company paused policies unlike State Farm who recently released a statement explaining its decision last week.
"State Farm General Insurance Company made this decision due to historic increases in construction costs outpacing inflation, rapidly growing catastrophe exposure, and a challenging reinsurance market," said State Farm in a press release. "It’s necessary to take these actions now to improve the company’s financial strength. We will continue to evaluate our approach based on changing market conditions."
In a statement to ABC10 a spokesperson for the California Department of Insurance (CDI) said current customers will not lose their insurance.

CDI said Allstate paused new homeowner's insurance policies in November 2022. They represented 4.9% of the homeowners market in the state in 2022.
