My boss wants me to come up with a plan to start a radio station but I don't know nothing about the radio industry besides the choices of music and talk shows to be aired on the station. Can anyone help me in getting together all tht I would need to from the cost of all the various machines and swithboards to a payroll. I just want to help him make this a success so that he can hire me on as a partner. Thanks for any usable knowledge.

ok first thing u need to do is see if any of the FM frequencies are open.

Simply cut on your car radio from the location your at and scan the airwaves or call the fcc and ask them for a frequency check in your area. 9 out of 10 times theyll tell you that all available frequencies are taken. If one IS available you either, hit the jackpot, or you live in a rural community.

You must then apply for this frquency with the fcc, this can cost up to $25000, depending on the frequency, and city you live in. I beleive in places like new york and other major cities its up to 250k for a freq per year.

If you live in a rural community your in luck. the fcc doesnt regulate as stringetnly is rural areas so you can set up your own radio station for about 5k. called pirate radio. Most transmitters can be built relatively cheaply and can broadcast on a few different frequencies depending on the crystal oscillations you setup. most times in rural areas the range is about 5-10 miles from the epicenter of the signal u generate at or around 100-500 watts.

mixing boards, mike, dats, turntables, cdmixer and a console. plus your transmitter are usually all u need to start. The DAT is the most important as most companies who advertise place there ads on DAT. YOUR MONEY.

lemme know if i can help. I dj'd in college for 5 years for the longest running mixshow in my schools history. 6pm to 12 midnight, every friday night, made a killin sellin mixtapes.

How about this. If you can help me with a finacial plan to present to the bank and the lawyer cat and they accept it. I will straight up get you a job on the station and we can talk about the salary once it's all in the works. This is no bullshit. I live in an area that's in need a a radio station that's got it all from rap to reggaeton. I don't know shit about the biz, but I know what the people want and if I can get it runnin then I'll be happy. Just let me know what you can do.

How is it that someone asks you to plan something you know nothing about?

O.K., you don't know radio but you can get the financing together, right?
DOH! I see above you're seeking help with a financial plan. Then you promise a job at the station that you can't figure out how to develop or know anything about running.

It's simple. I don't have to know right off. If somoene with the know how does and help me to get started they will have a job off tops.

There was 2 Pirate Haitian Radio stations in ATL based out in Marietta. I think some Mexican stations applied for some spots and the FCC found out about the Haitian Stations being on stations they shouldnt have been on. Be careful if you plan to go the Pirate Route.

Explain Pirate Radio. What is it exactly?

Look!!
This is simple!!
If you want to start a radio station....... Legit that is!!!!........
1. You are gonna have to have patience.
-after you apply for all the necessaries from the FCC, you will have to wait (depending on your location and etc.) They have a thing called an application window in which they only take in a certain amount of applications at a certain time or times of the year. (Basically whenever they feel) You will never get a straight answer and you will never be guaranteed that your application will be picked. (I have been waiting now for 2 and some extra long time years now!!!!)
-My boy is a lawyer so I have a damn good break on paying the fees.... But you are gonna need one. Not only to push things through but make sure things are right all the time. "This shit costs!!!!!"

2.While you are waiting, and waiting, and waiting, depending on your area, start to research studio equipment. Yes Music Studio Equipment!!!
- No You don't need an MPC or Roland Fantom, no sequencers or such, and no ProTools, but recording type equipment. With nowadays requests you will need more things in the digital era. Meaning a mixing board with digital aspects and such, a strong PC, signal processing converters and such.
- also good quality DJ equipment and mixers. MP3 wave CD compatible, those types of things.

3. All of this ends up to spending a whole lot of money even before you know if you are gonna do it or not.

4. You have to research what area and how far of a distance you would like to broadcast. This would lead you into Beginning to look at what transmitter you will need. And I do stress Beginning!!!!!! That stuff is costly as a MOFO!!!
It's something that has to be done right from the jump!!!

As for all of this...... it will add up to MONEY, MONEY, and MO MONEY!!!!
Spend it wisely!!!

With a pirate Radio station, its much cheaper to build but the constant headache is not worth it.
The fine STARTS at $10,000, for theft of signal, FCC violations and such!!
As I said it STARTS there!!!! And I DO MEAN IT STARTS THERE!!!
When you go to court you will pass out!! Trust me!!

If you get caught again or in any way led to be in connection with another
station, it is straight jail time. And right now at this point in the game they are giving time like you committed a violent act. So have your lawyer money
together for that!!!

Any other questions PM me.

Good luck!!
