Stanley Crouch "..Malcolm X was no more than a charismatic heckler.."

Why is it you don't?

Crouch is right. I like Malcolm X - the same way I like John Wayne. Cool dude, doesn't take crap. But did John Wayne actually win WWII? or just talk a lot of shit in on screen while other did the real fighting. Too many of you young black men look up to him for not taking shit they way white boys looked up to John Wayne. Malcolm did about as much for us as "The Duke" did for them - colorful figurehead of manhood - they both make you feel good - like "That's how I would have handled that!"

The real work was and is done by less glamorous more practical men.

Loose analogy but it works.
Muthafuc John Wayne: spoken by Chuck D:yes::yes:

All leaders are talkers. And Malcolm did a lot to clean up Black men.. he was a great example to others.

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about

:cool::rolleyes:

- is that the best you can do, like we are a bunch of 3 year olds by the swing set? "you dont know WTF you're talking about!!" and leave it at that!??!

you are what I call a NIGGA-Lectual. you aren't even relevant in the grand scheme of things.

like i said - I love malcolm, have several book about him and documentaries, but at the end of the day he was a TALKER and not much a DOER.

dr king, dubois, tubman, washington, even garvey - all DOERS. It's not a matter of agreeing w/everything a leader says (like i did malcolm), but acknowledging truth and reality. MY STRONG BLACK AFRICAN BROTHA!!!:lol:

Someone already proved your nonsense about the panthers to be incorrect... was there really a need for me to repeat the facts? "You don't know what fuck youre talking about" sounds better...

Like I said about Malcolm.. ALL leaders are talkers... without their voice, they wouldn't be leaders. What he did was provide an example of reform to Black men (and as Ossie Davis put it.. He was our manhood, our shining Black Prince).. Maybe you should READ more books about Malcolm because you missed the boat...

Here we go again re-fighting old battles. A story where Stanly Crouch was largely defending Obama, we scrap like bitches because his opinion on Malcolm is not like yours. He can't hurt Malcolm or his legacy and you damn well know it. I don't give a shit what he says.

I guess Farrakhan was right. "..we are a people easy to fall asleep."

Malcolm X was one of the naysayers to American possibility whose vision was permanently crushed beneath the heel of Obama's victory on Nov. 4. Though his ideas had nothing to do with the ultimate form of nonviolence - voting - those desperate to praise him will pretend now that he was actually a civil rights leader! This has been going on for an unforgivably long time, especially among black academics.

This is foolish.

If not for Spike Lee's film about him, Malcolm X would have been forgotten.

Even more foolish
.:smh:

This is a reaction to the 'comments' of Zawahiri who probably didn't even say those things about Obama seems to me like a feeble attempt to turn black people away from Islam. We are scared now especially as our president to be, has a Muslim name what if he became Muslim? What can we do to prevent this? Associate Malcolm x with a terrorists, increase the perceived threat. It makes me laugh how people believe everything they hear and see on TV. These same people feeding us lies are the same ones who were beating us down, measuring our skulls, and enslaving us just a few years ago.

Malcolm x made mistakes but for those last months of his life he was truly successful and died upon the truth.

excellent post....

Good cop / bad cop.

Without Malcolm and the more radical elements, MLK and nonviolence wouldn't have looked as reasonable to whites.

Malcolm agreed:

"I want Dr. King to know that I didn't come to Selma to make his job difficult. I really did come thinking I could make it easier. If the white people realize what the alternative is, perhaps they will be more willing to hear Dr. King."

How old was this idiot when Malcolm X lived and died.....? I hate when history is revisionist........ For his time, Malcolm X did very powerful things ........ this asshole was chasing White girls who wouldnt give his muppet looking ass any rhythm.

talker: guy on a message board who either praises or diminishes people of significant accomplishment

doer: man who goes before to the UN to bring sanctions against the US basically comparing them to South Africa. man who goes on live television and calls the white man the devil and some black folks house negroes when his life can be taken any day. teaches people about separatism and natioanlism.

you think what Malcolm did wasn't as dangerous as marching in the South? u know what they did to black folks in Chicago and Harlem who ran their mouth about the government and the police? white folks were afraid of this man which made him a walking target.

in the end most black folks didn't go Malcolms way. we desired more to be like (and some even wanted to look like) white people and we bought into "their" version of the American dream not Malcolm's.

separate from white folks? that's absurd.

It's a trick and we shouldn't even dignify it with a response

TRUTH!!

Imagine if he finished what he started. Imagine if he brought the USA up on Human Rights charges in the UN. He had the support of a ton of African leaders. Imagine if he never died, and that went through. That would've trumped every march, sit in, and boycott. All of these events are important cogs in change, so it's foolish to discount Malcolm's accomplishments.

What's funny and sad is, Malcolm is revered as a Prince all over Africa. There are make shift murals all over the African continent and even in Central and South America. Yet, the people he fought for sit and argue about if he was good or bad. What kind of bullshit is that!?!?!?!?!?

OK, so let me get this straight........Crouch says that Malcolm was only a talker?

Like a Community Organizer ain't qualified for no "BIG" jobs:lol:

Here we have a guy, who talks for living,($), saying that we shouldn't honor a man who "Lead" a movement?

STOP PLAYING GAMES:lol:

No need to comment on Crouch, I've reached the conclusion that this cat has mistakenly equated his natural ass-ugliness with his blackness (thus he hates everything about that part of him). He thinks his big pink lips and dark skin make him ugly when actually it's his big, deformed, pink lips and his burnt bacon complexion that make him ugly.

No need to even reply. It's the usual suspects in this post saying exactly what everyone would expect them to say, spitting half truths, speaking on shit they don't have any knowledge of, basically being the same stupid coons they are in every other post.

And using the same weak defenses to protect their weak footing in the conversation (You don't agree with me because you're a nigga and I'm a black man, blah, blah.)

At this point, if you can't open hand slap the fuckers, why even communicate with them.:smh:

I don't even know what to fucking say...."John Wayne"....

a brotha compared Malcolm X to "John Wayne"....let me guess those weren't real bullets that ripped through his body in front of his wife and kids for a actual reason....like basic civil rights and fighting for us...

this is why we will never get anywhere as a mutha fucking ppl...

saddest shit I ever read...keep letting the media pollute your minds.....:(:smh:
He got shot by a rival sect..not defending our civil rights. By the way I really like Malcolm X...but let's be honest: the appeal of the man is similar to the myth of the rugged individual (often typified by John Wayne) he didn't take crap. But as for what he did...? Tell me what did he DO to change the laws and conditions of the land? That was done by King and others. Because like Crouch said the ideas of the NOI and other groups where just not grounded in reality. I mean a seperate nation for blacks?
Come the Fuck on. Get Real.

That's why Obama suceeded and Jackson and his old schoool ilk fail in TODAYS world. The same way the fake ass John Wayne wasn't REALLY winning the war but still sounded cool talking shit.

We like our mythic heroes in America. Why did you think America loves JFK. Miles Davis said it best. "What did John F Kennedy ever do except have a lot of hair?" But let him get shot and VOILA! instant hero!

You know it's true. :hmm:

cmon now...I expect all the "uncle tom!!" remarks to fly and some funny little pictures of crouch.

but he is right.

I think malcolm X was the greatest black leader we ever had personally...but he was a talker.

just like the black panthers - them cats were glorified attention seekers. never popped shot any cops, didn't keep the dope out of the community and were broken apart far too easily to be as unified as they portrayed themselves to be..

booker t washington and dubois were more so doers, not talkers...as was dr king.

Do you realize that the Panthers were feeding the kids in their community to the point that the federal government started a free lunch program to reduce the positive attention they were getting. The Panthers broken apart too easily....have you ever read about Cointelpro...about what happened to Fred Hampton. While the Panthers were unable to achieve all of their goals they like Malcolm knew that what they were advocating...the right to self determination and equality for blacks was something that could not be eternally denied and could not wait for the morality of white america to realize that co existence in this country required it.

Oh and Booker T Washington as a doer huh? You know Booker T met with the KKK right,...thought that we needed to do menial labor to prove ourselves worthy of more. Malcolm and the Panthers and MLK had us raising our eyes to the clouds. Know your history fam.

He got shot because he started talking sense as soon as he started promoting a religion that would unite the people he got dangerous. He was safe as long as he was saying that the white man was the devil and the black man was god.
And that was aiding in changing the voting rights and other civil rights in a concrete way by...?

Saying we are all brothers in nice in a vague sort of syrupy sort of way was nothing new in the philosphy of mankind(except in the case extreme cult he was - rather rashly - involved in).

Lets not act as if it was so "profound" just because it contradicted his previous public statements. So he wised up.

Big deal.

I could have told him that and most black americans at the time could have told him that WITHOUT having to go through a dangerous and weird cultlike experience.

To me it is rather like a drug addict getting praise for being straight and getting a job. People heap praise on them all the time.

I'm like "Umm...yeah pal, the rest of us have been doing that ...WITHOUT the drama." :hmm:

Enough with the coon stuff. Stanley is an upstanding man who says dumb shit from time to time like all of us.

To roast Malcolm over some dumb ass stuff said by some Talaban or Al Quaida asshole is out of line. At the very least Malcolm is respected by millions of Black Americans as well as others groups. He built up the NOI which in turn did take a lot of brothers out of prison and off the streets. They opened business's back in the 60s and early 70s that I worked in as a youth. He help to instill a sense of pride in ourselves that the Civil Rights Movement was lacking. Where Dr. King was not reaching northern blacks, Malcolm was. And eventually many of Malcolm's admirers supported King. It's because of that mind set of Malcolms that many blacks today are still starting business's.

So Stanley in case you're on bgol today. Take a step back and retrace your steps.

John Brown did more for blacks than Malcolm X ever did and half of you never even heard of him!

He talked the talk AND walked the walk. if Malcolm was like John Wayne; John Brown was like Audey Murphy or Sgt York.

You must be high than a muthafukka, because what John Brown did, was so profane, FOR A WHATE MAN, that believe me, there were other whate folk who spoke up on his behalf.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

But you better know ni66a, than John Brown wasn't doin this so you could live next door to him, or his ancestors.:smh:

Marching singing clapping got us nowhere the people got scared when 'Negroes' started to get angry. That’s when things started to change. Just because Obama got the presidency doesn’t mean he aint got to kiss the white mans ass. Look at the people he has had to appoint zionists Clinton and Rahm Emanuel.

Say what you all want. Anyone who says America should adopt a bigoted, pro-slavery, women-bashing religion like Islam to alleviate its racial problem has made a serious error.
