There is no "illegal defense". You can play whatever the fuck you want. Its a defensive 3second or loading one side of the court when the balls on the weakside. Spurs have done nothing in violation or the rules. Even when they pack the lanes they either reset before 3secs or are there fronting and doubling Zbo.
