Spider-Man: Homecoming -(discussion thread)

Once again Marvel's attention to the little things wins a No-Prize!!!

Spider-Man Star Confirms That Spidey Appeared In Iron Man 2

"Nice work kid!"

The relationship between Spider-Man and Iron Man--aka Peter Parker and Tony Stark--is a big part of the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. But it seems that the pair actually met in an earlier Marvel movie--namely, 2010's Iron Man 2.

The scene is question occurs during the ill-fated Stark Expo, where a host of robotic Hammer Drones go on the rampage. A young boy wearing an Iron Man mask bravely confronts one of the Drones, and it has been a fan theory for some time that the boy is actually a young Peter Parker. Watch it below:

Homecoming star Tom Holland has now confirmed that this is, indeed, Peter. Holland was asked about the scene by the Huffington Post and referred to a conversation between him and Marvel boss Kevin Feige on the same subject.

"I can confirm that is Peter Parker," he said. "I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I've just done a big, old spoiler, but it's out there now. It's cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning."

In terms of story, this makes sense--the boy would be the around the correct age for Peter at the time, and the Expo takes place in Queens, New York, where he grew up. Of course, whether this was the plan back in 2010 is another matter entirely, especially as this was several years before the deal between Marvel and Sony--who own the movie rights to Spider-Man--had been agreed.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7. We'll find out then if there's any reference to this scene in the movie. In the meantime, check out the latest trailer here.

In related news, Feige this week confirmed that the Homecoming sequel will kick off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "So much happens in [the third and fourth Avengers movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it, that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker?" he said. "So, coming out two months after Untitled Avengers, [that's what] much of what the next Spider-Man film will be about."

That Iron Man and Spider-Man Shot From All theHomecoming Trailers Isn't in the Movie

zj6nznjh94tsfftlow0g.gif

The money shot used in almost all of the marketing from Spider-Man: Homecoming isn’t in the movie. You know the one: Iron Man and Spider-Man, both suited up, flying through Queens. But in a new interview, the director of the film did his best to explain why it’s missing.

“I think what happened was in the very first trailer they wanted a shot of Spider-Man and Iron Man flying together,” Watts told ScreenCrush. “And they were going to use something from the Staten Island Ferry [scene], but it just didn’t look that great, the background plate, because the Staten Island terminal is a very simple building. It almost looks like an unrendered 3D object. So I think I was like ‘Let’s just put them in Queens. Let’s use that as a backdrop.’ Because we couldn’t just create a whole new shot, so let’s just use one of these shots of the subway; put them in there.”

So the shot was never in the movie. A fact that will make more sense once people have actually seen it. (No spoilers here). But that doesn’t change that the marketing team has a job to do, a job that doesn’t always match up with what a film’s production is doing. (This is similar to some of the shots from Rogue One that were in the trailer but not in the movie.)

In a way, it’s Robert Downey Jr.’s fault. He and Iron Man are so popular and famous that if you have them in your movie, you practially have to put them in the marketing. Now, if that means fabricating a shot because things from the final film aren’t ready yet, on a big film like this, it’s an option, albeit one Watts admits he doesn’t feel great about.

“I feel a little weird that there’s a shot in the trailer that’s not in the movie at all, but it’s a cool shot,” he said. “It’s funny, I forgot that we did that.”

This Vulture shot also isn’t in the movie.
That’s also not the only shot from the trailers not in the movie. A shot of Vulture dropping down almost into the camera in a hotel atrium was also derived from marketing. Here’s Watts:

The hotel atrium shot was originally created for Comic-Con, for like a sizzle reel before we had really shot anything; we had shot like two weeks of footage or something. That was never meant to be in the movie. But I did use that angle for Vulture’s reveal at the beginning of the movie; Vulture’s hovering, swooping towards the camera like that. I used that shot, it’s just no longer in an Atlanta hotel atrium.

Ok...

First off this movie was legit funny. Like naturally funny. Tom holland is the perfect version of Spectacular Spider-Man Peter Parker. I think it works because everyone in this movie is still in their Teens. So it felt like real kids in High School.

Second.... I absolutely loved the racial dynamic of the cast. And it didn't feel forced... it didn't feel like the switched up the races to just switch them. It felt like actual characters that just happened to have the same name as certain comic book characters.

Third.... Michael Keaton was good. Probably the second best Marvel Villian. Now don't get it twisted.... he isn't close to being in my top 10 villains but Marvel villains have sucked so much ass that it was nice to see a Villian with a backstory.

Fourth..... the movie does have some flaws. It drags in the middle. There were maybe 2 scenes involving the high school that I felt were too much. There wasn't much backstory for Parkers Friend Ned. Zendaya was freaking cool in the movie but she is basically the black Daria in this film. The last scene was basically spoiled on the internet... so the MJ reveal didn't carry much weight. I don't know what the reviewers are saying about Tony Stark not really being in this...Tony was all over this movie.

The action was good but not as good as Spiderman 1 or 2... I think it just because today's CGI makes things so cartoony that it makes things feel cut off from reality... so it loses some of the impact of the action. The action was still better then the Amazing Spider-Man.

side note... Pay attention to what happy says in reference to the items they are packing away. I found the Captain America reference intriguing when you think about how Civil War ended.

Now for the rank... I've got two ranks here.

Marvel Rank and Spider-Man movie rank.

Marvel rank I'm going to put this at Number 5..

Winter Solider, Avengers One, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and Civil War...

Spider-Man rank... This actually goes behind Spider-Man 2.. as my second favorite Spider-Man movie.

It's is kind of crazy that this is the 6th Spider-Man movie and we still haven't gotten to a Sinster 6 or Black Cat.

Just got back. Movie was damn good, but differernt. It didn't feel like a large scale movie like the Avengers but a bit larger than the Ant-Man. The VULTURE? Was a COMPLETE BAD-ASS! Michael Keaton did the damn thing. (I'm looking for his action figure online).

The movie was comedy all the way.

I give it a 9/10

Also... I can already guarantee that people on the board are going to be bitching about all the interracial couples in the movie.

just thought of this story

when I bought this book 2o20 seemed like forever

I remember saving up to buy this from the corner store, the owner saved it for me for damn near a week

I GOTTA write that script before someone beats me to it.

You know I could have a legit discussion about this version of culture. I've always thought that Vulture in the comics and cartoons was the weakest of Peters villains but I really loved this version and what motivated him to do what he does. I liked how he didn't see himself any different from Tony Stark. I also liked how he carried a code of ethics behind him. On the real.. He reminded me of Sandman.. A conflicted Villian. I'm going to look forward to seeing him again.

Dude they beefed him up. One of the DOPEST villians ever in the MCU. Like you said it wasn't just his motivations but the flying harness? Shit was Beast mode....

Yeah this needs to be the new version of Vulture in my opinion. Especially the suit... it had this cool fighter jet pilot quality to it. I just don't see how you can go back to either the mutant version of Vulture or the guy in the green bird suit with wings and feathers after this one.

I agree with the above posts about this portrayal of Vulture. Definitely one of the top villains in the MIC.

One of my buddies at the theater said the exact same thing about Michelle being the black Daria. I fell out when Peter got to the dance and she greeted him by flipping the bird lol.

That last scene with Aunt May had me rolling! LMBAO

F*cking great review

Seriously, magazine worthy.

She's definitely a good role model for young people. Especially given all the other celebs caught up in Hollywood bullshit. Gonna be cool to see how the massive eventual global box office numbers do in increasing the star power for her and Tom Holland, etc.

Don't jinx her with the role model.. stuff.

I remember when Miley Cyrus was on Hanna montana and people were like.. Miley seems like a nice wholesome girl with good family values. Lol

Got back from the movie and this movie was legit funny as fuck. They could've done without the sidekick/friend route from Ultimate Spiderman. And I like how they turned The Vulture into a strong villian with a legit purpose, not an old disgruntled white guy doing crime for no reason. Technically spiderman was a CHILD when he got his powers and this movie constantly reminded you that hes just A CHILD especially during the collapse scene. The previous spiderman movies from SONY you felt like you were dealing with grown men and not a teenager. I hope they go into other villians sony didnt touch, they're teasing Scorpion for the next movie but I would like Mysterio. Overall, I think SONY made the right choice to make Marvel Studios do this. Hopefully Fox can come to their senses with FF4

This movie really makes you wish that Sony and Fox would just Fucking kneel on the sword and let marvel studios handle their properties....

Because it's going to really look odd when you see this bright and cheerful Spider-Man and then next year be hit with this dark ass gloomy Venom movie.

Also... I'd like to add that the A.I. Named "Karyn" was fucking amazing. I could not get enough of her and I literally gave a small yelp in the theater when Iron Man gave the suit back to Peter because I was worried that we would never see Karyn again.

man, even worse a dark pheonix movie featuring Genosha
sandwiched between Venom and Black & Silver movies
there are still no scripts for Venom or BS - not sure Sony is going to get either movie done in the schedule they said if at all

Feig stated that Venom isnt a part of their MCU plans. I think Sony going to see how successful this movie is and try to squeeze their shit in. Fox may come to their senses because of this movie. The darkness dont matter because Marvel did Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage which is in the MCU but a darker side to it.
